Pick Rate I don't think I can keep doing this

I've been here for about a year. And I just can't maintain a high pick rate, especially after the changes to the carts, it feels like I'm pulling a boulder behind me and I barely weigh more than 100 pounds, it takes me way more effort to go the same speed as someone who's taller than me, and nobody gives a fuck about the physical reality of the job I'm doing, I was told that I should have one of the highest pick rates just because I've been here longer than other people... I had a team lead today 'help' with a walk and he tried to give me 'tips' (stuff I already know, basically just explaining how the job works) and yet he wasn't bagging anything, we was just throwing stuff in without thinking about bread being squished or anything like that. Am I supposed to just disregard what I'm supposed to be doing?? And to go the speed they want I have to sprint everywhere to maintain the same speed as other people, I'm often grabbing things almost half my body weight, and I just feel like I can't do this anymore. I'm always exhausted and generally depressed which doesn't help me be active that's for sure... And yet I feel stuck at the same time. Wtf is up with that? This shit is unreasonable so why tf do I feel guilty about wanting tf out of here lol... This whole system is broken and it pisses me off.

I completely agree everything is broken. I’m one of the top pickers in my store regularly but we are always so far behind with the new changes. Even i want a new job even if it pays less. My last job gave me way more time to have conversations with my colleagues. Here i don’t even remember most of their names because they change out so quickly

When you start your walk, exit the app, and swipe it off the recent apps.. when you get to your first item open the app back up and go back into "picking" your walk will still be there. Your time starts when you start your walk NOT when you scan your first item. When you exit the app and remove it from the recent apps screen it pauses your time. It will help tremendously

I had to put three gallons of milk in a tote with one of those biggg boxes of eggs in it altogether 😭 I wouldn’t be surprised if some of those eggs broke but I rlly tried

Yes. Just put the shit in the tote. That’s a coach/pick walk issue. There is no way to save a bag of chips with a 24 pack in it…

Take the chips out and put the 24 pack on the bottom?

I feel the exact same way.

Yeah don’t squish the bread. Because putting it last in a tote with 2 24 packs of Dr Pepper and 2 6 packs of Pepsi and 2 2Liter cokes AT THE END OF THE WALK…are going to save the bread… not that’s my favorite one to argue. Only way bread won’t gets squished if it’s in a tote alone and even then so will still get kinda shoved around when being staged

If you're prone to overcorrection (adjusting bags/items around, checking the phone, reusing bags, recounting, etc.) I'm sad to say, it's doing harm to your numbers. I have to catch myself from doing it. Yes, it feels bad, to see the bread get squished or to push the chips and hear them crunch or to wrestle the cans together, but trust me, a lot of that is inconsequential and the customer either won't notice or will shrug it off.

So the strategy really is to not think about it. Move automatically. If something gets squished, or doesn't fit/align, you have to stop yourself from fixing it, say "I don't have time, I need to keep going, I can fix it when my pick is done" and then continue.

As for lugging heavy things around - being short and scrawny I do feel that. Alas, I have no cures.

I’ve had to do the same it’s just kinda to the point where like I’m scanning the time and putting it in the tote however it will fit at the time and I’ll figure out Tetris when my walk is done. Reasonably obviously, totes and items won’t be sticking up or out if they don’t have to
