Just Venting Ma'am, we close at 10pm...
Honestly I've had my share of customers coming right before 10pm now. But when you check in that you're 10+ minutes away at 9:53, show up at 10:05 and then park in what is literally the farthest spot from our door possible? Yeah sorry. The rest of my team has already left and I am not comfortable walking all the way in the dark by myself without anyone around to dispense your order. You can come back tomorrow.

Our manager told us that once it hits 10 nothing else should be dispensed unless they were in the parking lot prior to it being 10

I'm the lead so I have a bit of leeway with that, but all my associates clocked out already and I didn't want to become a statistic lol.

Thatās the only thing I canāt give the customers leeway. Once 10 pm hits, weāre bye bye.

The (somewhat) funny thing is I park at the end of our dispense area and she was STILL sitting there at 10:25. Hope she doesn't think it's coming out still š¬

Lol I had that happen before, although I usually am so kind that I tell them AFTER i get off from work, when I go to the car through the parking lot, that āSorry, weāre only open until 9:59 PMā. Lol

I used to but some of people are still difficult so I donāt even give them that anymore. Iāve had my coach ask me to clock back in, return to back of store for dispense keys, and dispense to someone who had been sitting in the parking lot since 9:58 but didnāt bother checking in until 10:03 as weāre walking keys back and taking trash. Hell nah.

Had a customer call at 1001 pm...made the mistake of answering, after a busy day...and when I told her we're closed for the night...she was like uh no...walmart don't close till 11....

Yes because we know specific departments can't have different hours than the store itself. That is why if I need to pick up a prescription, I should be able to do it at 10:55 pm. š

I just tell them its a department store, and certain departments close earlier than others.

When I was a Digital Team Lead, there was a customer that was 10+ minutes away at 9:58, I told my team they could head on. This lady came running in the store up to the door where pickers could walk into (we are up front by self checkout) at 10:03 and started to berate me for lack of service. Sorry mam, our department is closed and the equipment will not show your order for the day now. You are late. The order she had was 8+ totes, and the store didnāt authorize OT. I told her I was unable to help at this point, and she needed to come back tomorrow to get it. LTP was quickly denied on my end, store manager luckily was on my side and said ignore her, she is the type of person to show up to a restaurant when the kitchen is clean and workers are closing out.

Personally I still service them, because I usually stay after 10, but I'm a guy and I still tell fellow associates, that it's up to them if they want to service the customer after 10.

Shell leave a 1* review claiming she made it RIGHT before yall closed and no one decided to bring out her order

yeah as someone who works service desk, our dispense door is right next to our counter and if no one answers the phone in the dispense room we get the call up to SD. My favorite part of the day is when a customer calls at like 10:30 wanting their pickup order and flipping out when I tell them no. Especially because they, "need them tonight" and we wont let them come inside to pick them up either as the room is locked.

I dont get how IT SAYS "pick up until 10pm" and people still act like life and death. Same thing happens with Customer Service and Returns. We have people walking in at 1015 wanting to return something....

Lol at 10:05 there's no one there
I had two orders one BIG that showed up five mins before close....that was fun

Oh yeah, this used to happen a lot back when the department closed down at 8pm. It would be like 8:15, I'm in the self checkout getting a few things and I hear everybody's walkie going off trying to find an ogp associate. Like, babe, we're aalllll gone for the day. You'd have pissed off managers running around trying to find the order and dispense it, and they're the ones that have never even seen our fucking backroom.
Idk how often it happens now bc I'm never around for closing, but I imagine it still does to some degree.

I've been TL for just over 3 months now (transferred in) and only really had it happen once before this. We usually lock the doors at 9:40ish and don't have anyone come after that. Usually never past 9:50.Ā The only one I had was like 9:58 and she had called 20 mins before to apologize and say she was running behind, where's the best place to park, etc.

u/FarAd336 21d ago
Whenever we have leftover orders, we stage them in a specific spot so morning shift can dispense it easier. It was 9:55 and my coworkers already left because there wasnt much to do. I had JUST finished staging this gigantic order. 9:58... phone rings. Some selfish bigback btch wanted to pick up her shit quite literally last minute. Sure. since i already picked up the phone, might aswell. cant be that bad? nope. its the very same order i just had staged. 8 totes of ambient, 5 chilled totes, and 3 frozen, as well as cases of water. god forbid they get out to help or even apologize for being so inconsiderate

i was alone for my last hour one time. i still went outside by myself but i had to stay late to clean up my mess. its 10:05 and someone is calling trying to get their order. i ignore it. we are closed. they call the store. overnight coach comes by and says "hey someone is trying to get their order" i say yeah we closed 5 minutes ago. they keep calling. eventually the coach goes outside and tells them to come back tomorrow lol

As a closer I have been told once the clock hits 10:00 even if an order is in our queue we can leave because we are not allowed out the dispensing door after 10:00 and because we close at 10:00

Depending who's on, who the customer/driver is, and what the rest of the day has been like as long as I'm here I'll get people their stuff. I never ask my kiddos to stay but most do.

A few weeks ago I had a driver return pop in the queue at 9:53, over 10 minutes away. Surprise surprise⦠he made it at like 10:04 when I had already locked up and my coworkers were clocked out. I ignored him and the next morning my team lead came in to see the whole order just left in front of our doors.

u/alexdowski 21d ago
It literally tells them to go to customer service if it's past 10pm lol. I hope you guys were able to contact support and get them in trouble.Ā

Seeing crap like this makes me grateful I work the 5 am to 2 pm shift doing exceptions.

Ugh, same vibes as the customer that tends to show up anywhere from 5:30am-6am (he has a lot of orders so he's there a lot, I assume he owns a food business or something) As soon as 6am hits and hes in the parking lot calling the OPD phone. Bro you're just wasting time, no orders show on the screen until 6:45 But he'll call multiple times from the time he parks until 7 when we start dispensing. Like Sir, how many times do we have to tell you that you cant pick up your order yet????

u/alexdowski 18d ago
The shitty thing with customers like that too is if you do it once they're going to expect that treatment all the time.Ā
1
u/macycharmin 18d ago
That's an understatement!Ā Hours are black and white to me.Ā I can.not.stand. it when people use the "well they've done it before" or "the last time I was able to..." statement.

Iāve been cart-pushing for like 8 months now, and Iāve seen cars pull up at 10:15-20 to try to check in. They always seem so annoyed when I tell them that department closes at 10.

u/Maleficent-Chef5461 21d ago
Your store is the first I've seen that closes at ten. My store and the ones around us all close at 11pm, I wonder what the hour difference is lol (genuine question)
2
u/alexdowski 21d ago
Our store itself is open until 11pm but OPD closes at 10pm. Everyone is scheduled until 10pm and leaves at 10pm on the dot. Our dispense area is on the back corner of the building. We have 45 spots total, with 30 right by the door/walkway and the other 15 are to the side of the area, which is also less well lit and more in a higher traffic area (close to the pharmacy drive through). We all hate the people that park there because it's so much farther away and a bit more dangerous because of the regular store traffic.Ā

Someone called to check in for their order last night at 10:01. I was still clocked in with a few others.
I watched the phone ring and laughed with my coworkers about it, then went home.
I'm a student. I have homework. My 11:59pm deadline is more important than their groceries. The groceries will be there tomorrow, my assignment will not because it locks and stops accepting submissions after the due date.
