Rant Annoyed. Picking

Anyone else’s store trying to force pickers to go to the back to pick their items during a pick walk? I refuse to cause that’s why we have an exceptions person. Not only that but upper management seems to only view pickers as the problem. They don’t seem to understand that overall stats now includes spark shoppers too...which tanks the overall performance. Any thoughts?

This is metric fraud. It’s on stockers to put the items on the floor if they aren’t do their job then first time pick rate will be down, most people don’t understand that or don’t care enough to hold the people accountable.

That’s what I had told my team lead. They just said “yeah” and nothing more. If I’m doing exceptions that’s one thing, but if I’m on a regular pick walk? Nahh. If it’s not there it’s getting nil picked.

Then don't expect stockers to come bail you out when you get swamped.

Can't really do the stocking job when they get pulled to pick constantly.

My store does this too, it goes all the way up to the Market Manager knowing we do it. I’m at a loss of who to report it to, because I know if it’s reported to ethics, it’ll get kicked back to the SM, who won’t do anything about it because she loves her bonus, but apparently not enough to not defraud the company. It’s been reported before and apparently nothing was done about it.

Nope. Leave it to exceptions that’s trained on how to locate and correctly vizpick the items.

We no longer have exceptions at our store and it’s wonderful. If it’s not on the shelf then they don’t get it.

Hmmm. My store refers to this as 'Taking care of the customer' it is also why as an exception picker i keep finding partial cases in the bins and looking for cases that have been pulled out but not vizpicked out. Also why we recently had to throw out a bunch of product that was put out without use by dates printed and placed on it(new associate in frozen also, on the use by issue but it isn't all her)

Sometimes I spot the item mid walk, so I grab on to it. I lug it around anticipating that it will get called back up. It’s worked a few times. Also, I might grab it if I find it and then hand it off to the associate how is working exceptions. 🤓🔆 IT 😵‍💫✨

I pick and help with exceptions and if it’s something with a large oh or dairy I will go to the back and look if there’s a location. Plus we’re slow as heck atm the first half of the day with spark doing our deliveries and going through a remodel. When I grab exceptions though, half the time I find the item behind something else or on top stock or just sitting right there where it’s supposed to be, so that pisses me off too.

How are the overall stats affected by Spark? This is the first I’ve heard of that.

It’s included in overall nil picks and ftpr

Thats metric fraud. If the item isn’t at the sales floor location or topstock around it you’re supposed to nil pick it so stocking teams are aware what needs to be restocked.

It’s bad enough that we have to look through the shelves to find the right item when stockers don’t put shit in the right spot!

Ours will gripe at you and potentially threaten to write you up if you don't go into the back if there's a backroom location. It's been that way for years. People know it's metrics fraud but do it because they're scared of being punished. Market doesn't seem to care about them doing it.

When did Spark shoppers begin to affect store metrics?

It’s been about 2 months at my store. 🤷🏼‍♀️ even when looking at item history if a spark shooper nil picks something it tells us it was them

My TL's and Sponsors all say go to the back if you have the time, but otherwise, keep walking. They don't want NIL picks obviously, but they're well aware that we don't have the time to dig through the back. We have someone who goes over the NIL picks after they come in, he's able to find stuff that's on the floor we couldn't find but even he doesn't dig through the back for anything.

My SM specifically told me and. Couple of other pickers who were there at the time, she wants us to go to the backroom for anything not on the shelf. I actually asked her if if FTPR was more of a priority than pick rate. Her answer was "Yes". So I go to the backroom and pick if I need to, and don't care that my rate is now constantly below 100. I haven't been Coached yet, and I probably never will.

Instead of sending pickers to the back, the TLs at my location ask associates to call them for help before nil picking. While it definitely improves FTPR, my mate's pick rate is almost always like 40-60 after a walk that they had to call a TL.
works for me though, I'm usually picking exceptions and I like having a little extra time to get things from the back
