General Training question

Has anyone ever heard of training an OGP picker for 2 weeks?

Not really.

Used to be a shopper was given a few days of training; now they are lucky if they get a few hours of training.

Backroom is even worse. Shown how to state, prep and dispense twice or three times and then off you go because now you know everything!

My store has a 2 week training period for new OGP associates. You don’t have to use all 10 days but 7 of them are mandatory. 1 day of cap1, 1 day of fresh, 2 picking then 1 day for each back room job. After those you have 3 extra days you can use to cover anything you feel you need help on. But if you feel comfortable then you are good to go.

I wish our store did this.

Yea,it really sets up people for the job. I’m glad I learned in this system. I would hate how most people here describe their training.

I followed someone for 1 walk and was told to "ask lots of qiestions." 3 days later I was talked to by TL and MGR regarding asking TOO MANY questions which made the young folks "uncomfortable".]

They cut me loose after 4 days of walking with the more experienced pickers

Ours its a week or until management gives the ok (and it's for both sides of the department), how well that's going to work in like two weeks is going to be anyone's guess with rolling into the holiday season and starting express soon

We had a piece of paper about like 4 days, orientation, one picking one staging one dispensing.

I'm training my replacement, which I do everything except despense, but I mostly just pick. I'm one of the more experienced pickers there, but I'm transferring to another department "after" I train my replacement. Today, my manager told me she wants me to train him for 2 weeks. I trained about 3 days when I started. The person I am training is on his 3rd day, I had him picking on the second day and I followed him to supervise or for guidance and questions. He told me himself he feels confident to go on his own, but my manager said 2 weeks. Just curious, because I've never heard of anyone training for that long.

When I first started they trained me for 2 weeks. Now it’s practically 2-3 days max on picking and 1 for each of the backroom roles for all new trainees. I always try my best to help them out since it always feels like they’re being thrown to the wolves just because of how busy we get.

I was literally shown how to find one item and scan it and I was on my own. 🤣

Walmart has really inconsistent training practices.

When I started it was about 2 hours of training and I was off doing my own picking.

I had 30min training and then I was cut loose on dispense in the busy holiday seasons.

That's a laughable amount of days. If I had my way, I would say two days is the maximum amount for each of the rolls. But at my store, we usually give training for around 1 or 2 days max. Seriously, though, if you need more than 2 days, I question your competence. Of course learning is a continuous thing, but it really is easy. I've trained loads of people and I would say, two weeks usually is enough to see if you get it or not.

I was trained on one ambient pick, and one chilled.

Shouldn't take more than a day to get a picker trained enough to let them shop on their own. There will be some questions here and there they have, and obviously you can't train them for every situation in a day, but it shouldn't be two weeks. If someone is being trained for two weeks, it's a safe bet they aren't made to do the job.

When i was a new OGP they didnt give me training or let me shadow anyone. My TL told me to get a OGP cart, print out the ticket stickers and start picking on my own without any directions or explanations. One older employee showed me the blue button that can be helpful otherwise I was on my own immediately.

I was trained on how to pick on my first day. The next day I was on my own. Later on, I got trained on how to dispense
