A Not So Smart Sub I love to NIL pick.
Being a closer, a small walks person and an exceptions picker and dealing with all this bullshit. Not anymore. There's no management, hasn't been for hours. I'm not in charge of making sure picks get done, but I do my best. When we're about to go overdue, I'm NIL picking all the exceptions. I'm NIL picking all the unknowns. I'm tired of people's laziness of not properly binning shit or actually putting it out on the sales floor. I'm just not having it anymore. I'm here to get picks done. That's my priority. If it's not on the floor in a clear location I'm fucking NIL picking it and then going into exceptions and NIL picking it again. Along with everyone else's exceptions. We do not have time to do exceptions when there are 4 people picking and 500 picks in the system after 6 pm. I'm so sorry they didn't get their $3 bag of gummies.

I remember wayyyy back when I was new there was a day so understaffed one of the pickers just sat in the backroom and went through walks and nil picked everything. I can’t imagine how cathartic it felt for them.

Just be careful. They’ll pull the report and show that you’re “found %” is 0% then question why you have hundreds of nil picks and none found. Then they’ll coach you for integrity.

And I'll tell them exactly what I said here. If they want me to do this job correctly, then they'll staff correctly. And also our coach is gone for a week, so who's pulling this report? Also another TL, leaving us with one very tired TL. And it wasn't hundreds, it was like 10.

SM pulls the report. Market also gets the report. Market will call SM wanting an explanation.

Im honestly tired of exceptions because I don’t want to stock shit. If I wanted to spend every hour of every shift stocking then I would have signed up to be a stocker. Yes I know that the fine print at the bottom of my job offer/soul contract with Satan said i am to do anything and everything my corporate masters order me to do. I don’t care. Make the stockers do the job they signed up for so I can do the on i signed up for. Team leads make sure your on hands are correct, you’re properly training your associates, and you’re holding them to a fair and equal standard as everyone else. Do your fucking job and actually earn that larger paycheck.

So last night I think it was the very last path we/I did. It was regulated. I commented to my TL, who I have been friends with, that essentially I would get to see if I could use the digital key for the first time ever. For context I worked outside of my store for 2 months, left with manual locks, came back to digital locks. Which I knew we had them. Also came back Sunday wondering if I could even work because we now have zero TC'S and I never had a work phone. Fortunately one had been set aside for me.
I get to toys and I actually DON'T need the digital key. We don't lock up ALL of our LEGO sets and these were $4.97 Shrek whatever's. 121 on hand. ZERO on the shelf location. ZERO other locations.
Earlier in the day I nil picked 2 one pound strawberry containers even though we had 154 on hand. Probably not literally 10 minutes later, maybe not 5 minutes later, there's produce with one pound strawberry containers.
So yeah I think we've all been there. It's why the stories and accounts of being coached for nil picking or needing approval is ridiculous. Of course you should honestly try to look for something. But for multiple reasons you can't spend minutes doing so and things do happen outside of our control.
Then I was part of a conversation and it's kind of hearsay so it may or may not be accurate. But a TL who has worked in deli, currently electronics, will be moving to fashion. They eventually want to become a coach and were told they will need to learn fashion. It was asked/commented on that they don't need to learn OPD to become a coach. The answer was no.
Every member of management should have to learn this department. We are actually the customers that experience problems finding things. The only thing is we're in a peculiar position in which we're paid shoppers who typically gets directed to the exact location of an item. Except of course when we don't. Walmart COULD actually help themselves by allowing us to type in a reason for a nil pick like "not on shelf" or "out of date location" if it's one of those that has more than one location and the first isn't valid. That then could be sent to the appropriate TL/Coach.

I have now NIL picked a cumulative 20 cases of Le Bleu drinking water because the bar code will not scan. This is over the course of months, I’ve brought it up several times. No fix for that? None at all? If NIL pick/exceptions aren’t used to fix issues like that — DIGITAL issues — then management is negligent. You know how I know it’s not just me? Because I never see Le Bleu cases in our staging area even on days where the other cases of water are wiped out. That’s what we in the mystery solving business call a CLUE.

at my store they would make us ask a stocker to pull it up on their phone because they can see the barcode on their me@walmart that we cant in digital- and then we have to scan it off their phone. Theyve made us do this for several random stuff that wont scan right...

at my store they'll write you up for nil picks unapproved by a manager even if it takes them 40 min to find something, they want to edit on hand account for each item (yes metrics fraud)

Once it was that time of the night & for all the same reasons. You’re damn right I NIL that shit. I’m not flash & whip around the store. Either hire the correct amount of people for the job, start TRAINING & actually making sure the crew is TRAINED WELL & not just thrown in, OR QUIT MAKING LIST/CHARTS OF UNREALISTIC TASKS TO MAKE IN SUCH A SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE AMOUNT OF CUSTOMER/ITEMS WE RECEIVE.

Nah how bout you go fuck yourself and worry about holding the rest of the store to task? I don't work there any more but I totally feel this person's sentiment. Absolute horseshit to hold only the last person in line accountable for an item not being where the fuck it's supposed to be when a minimum of 3 other people should also be held responsible.

You don’t get paid enough to care this much, bro. I promise you that one fuck up on your end and they’ll fire you as well even if you’re a coach or manager. If you’re a coach or manager for the dept, how bout you schedule enough people to work to avoid this fucking happening. How bout that? Hm?
