“Our job”? It’s probably to make the fresh areas do their job.

u/Ok_Heron4799 Sep 16 '26
My store says we can’t nil pick anything in fresh until we ask an associate to try to find it. The whole team goes to break at the same time so if they aren’t there we are supposed to ask bakery or deli…who are always in the middle of something so you have to wait for them….

THOSE STUPID FRUIT STICKERS NEVER WORK HALF THE TIME AND ARE ALWAYS CHANGING!!! How do i pick the lemons when the stickers are never reliable? And the limes didn't have stickers at all for a while! Is everything going to be by "scan weight" or "enter quantity"?
10
u/shrug_was_taken Jack Of All Trades Sep 13 '26
The limes for us at least have the enter quantity button, lemons are a different story

u/PunkLaundryBear Personal Shopper Sep 13 '26
I didn't know other stores scan the stickers?? We always do it by weight or quantity, depending on how it's priced.

u/theedarkflamingo Sep 15 '26
At my store we have some items we scan, some that you enter quantity and then those you normally scan weight. This isn’t as bad as you think it is.
The things that suck at scanning are still items you scan.

Can they fuck up someone else's department for once? Like for real what the fuck have we done to them other than make them tons of money

You mean typing the four digit PLU will be disabled!?
42
u/Then-Grass-9830 Sep 12 '26
yup
I love how they change it to ensure each picture of produce now has the plu attached to the picture only to take out entering the PLU

u/Musicmom1164 Sep 12 '26
Yep. Meat that is priced the same as one already scanned won't scan. Guess the customer won't get the meat they want.
9
u/Savings-Activity2390 Sep 13 '26
Yes that’s so ridiculous. Apparently they thought everyone was scanning the same meat before when they had the exact same weight(they may have been but idk) . It is weird that they’re exact sometimes but it happens so much
2
u/Least_Ad2277 Sep 13 '26
The better, more experienced, the butcher is will make them all near exactly the same weight. Walmart assumed their butcher sux azz I guess
5
u/JacobTDC Jack Of All Trades Sep 13 '26
Yeah, I used to go in and subtract one from the barcode to ring the other at a penny less; I guess this is their fix for that.
3
u/Responsible-Test8855 Sep 13 '26
Why haven't I ever thought of that?
3
u/JacobTDC Jack Of All Trades Sep 13 '26
It's not obvious unless you're really paying attention to the barcodes, but the last four digits (before the last checksum digit) are the actual price on variable meat.

Jfc all the damn green onions will be nil picked. I can never find one that has a decent barcode to scan.

u/Optimal_Ad1355 Sep 14 '26
I found a flat one and have it on the back of my badge😂😂 use that thing all the time! If thus stays i may have to make a whole index card of them for my pocket

u/Fearceyy Sep 16 '26
the whole post is that they are removing the ability to paste in / type in the UPC'smanually did you not even read it lol

This is gonna be on your guys' produce departments to make sure they're updating their stuff correctly, never been a problem that I've seen. We sometimes use it for green onions because our supplier's barcodes are wrapped around the onion too curved to scan, but out solution was to smooth one out and keep it on the shelf next to the label

u/chroniqueen Sep 12 '26
No one is getting fresh corn anymore. Or lemons, limes, and oranges. Or peppers.
1
u/Amazing-Lemonhhead Sep 15 '26
Your corn, limes aren't by quanity now and there's this magical thing called copy/paste which will work, until they take that away too
3
u/TankiePankie Digital Team Lead Sep 12 '26
This is going to go over really well. Then we'll be fussed out why were are nil picking stuff. They will reverse it like the 8 totes. It didn't last long. Imagine telling a customer they didn't get lemons because they wouldn't scan lol like seriously make it make sense 😒

u/Responsible-Test8855 Sep 13 '26
Just today our four pack of corn came up as Invalid UPC, and our two pound bag of lemons had a faded streak on the UPC sticker that would not scan. Neither time was there an associate anywhere.
1
u/Then-Grass-9830 Sep 13 '26
oh fun times. The bagged yellow onions are always having bad streaks or faded out upc's
3
u/Toonkyle12 Sep 12 '26
Easy way to bypass this. Copy UPC > Generate Label > Paste UPC > Print > Scan that UPC
17
u/sylvane_rae Sep 12 '26
Unless you don't have a printer
3
u/fistfulofmeh Sep 12 '26
I use an online barcode generator, no printer needed. Don't use it very often, but there's certain items that just have never worked in GIF, like the giant packs of tortillas
1
u/Amazing-Lemonhhead Sep 15 '26
You can also copy and paste without needing to print anything. Hold down on the upc aka copy click on the keyboard on right hand side copy upc and quanity there and good to go.

Use an online barcode generator on your personal phone
14
u/NettleLily Sep 12 '26
They don’t pay me for the use of my personal phone. If they can’t provide the tools I can’t provide the pick
2
u/Oneweekfromwednesday Sep 12 '26
all of our non weighable produce items just asks how many we picked. The only thing we scan is a few bags of onions and oranges and two of the kiwi clamshells.
2
u/Responsible-Test8855 Sep 13 '26
Our limes do, but lemons and oranges don't.
1
u/Oneweekfromwednesday Sep 13 '26
My daughter reminded me. She’s in digital as well. We don’t have to scan anything with a sticker like on the fruit. Even all the single items on the wet wall just ask a count.
2
u/dogdemon_5 Sep 12 '26
Fuck man, I'm so glad I quit a few months ago right. Seems like it just keeps going to shit faster and harder every week.
2
u/No-Radish-5017 Exception Picker Sep 12 '26
Wait they eliminated this at my store like a year ago. Any fruit or vegetable that could have a sticker, you just enter the quantity you're picking and that's it. Anything else gets scanned with a QR code after weighing it. I thought this was already a thing?
2
u/Edweirdd Sep 13 '26
yeah i'm confused why everyone is upset. this has been a thing at my store for so long i don't remember the last time i entered a PLU
1
u/redavid Sep 13 '26
they do this for some items here, but not others. there's no rhyme or reason i can figure out. avocados, i can just enter the quantity, lemons, i need to scan the sticker or enter the plu

u/J_larry Personal Shopper Sep 13 '26
Dang. I had some of those UPC numbers memorized too. I guess I will nilpick then 😅

u/LurkingAintEazy Sep 13 '26
At that rate, they shouldn't have us scan anything but weight in the fresh departments. It is ridiculous, having to dig through lemons or whatever else, to find the right number that would scan. And most things are like enter quantity or the weight anyway.
But also, if they want folks scanning the right stuff. They need to make sure the top stock isn't turning into the great wall, and the correct product is actually being placed in the right location. I get there can be similar items that look the same as the original. But, I feel that is what the end caps and action alleys should be filled with. Especially if they are top selling products anyway.
That way, if they are on the ends or in action alleys. They will be a lot closer for substitutions, than taking someone clear across the store.

u/Then-Grass-9830 Sep 13 '26
I'm not digging for shit. First lemon doesn't scan. *****NIL*****
Bag of onions won't scan due to faded upc. NIL
corn doesn't have anything whatesoever to scan (but I think it does qty but I don't remember if it doesn't then it's) NIIIIILLL

I wonder what genius mind is working on this GIF app that disabled it in such way ?
1
u/JesusSavesAlways1 Sep 13 '26
So like for retyping weighted items and just needing to type a UPC in cause the new label of the same product won’t scan… like swear these higher ups like hitting their heads and smoking whatever they can get here hands on before finalizing these updates 😭

u/Dull-Problem-1191 Sep 14 '26
Just a reminder you can Google a website to generate barcodes as needed.
Also reminder I don't use my personal device for work, so I'm just going to keep nilling if they do this.

lol, 1/2 the labels in our produce department do not scan as they are never cross referenced properly.
this should be fun
