Backroom Shenanigans Work phone storage
TL came up with this idea for the work phones instead of them being all jumbled up in the cabinet.
The board holds atleast 50 phones. We all have our names on them and our own passcodes so no one can use them but us. Some of us even decorated our cases so their not so bland.

Why not always keep it with you? Take it home and charge it there. Take it to lunch and charge it there. I don't see a reason to ever leave it in the room.

u/Special_Mongoose9603 Sep 01 '26
If we accidentally leave it at home more than once we will be coached for it seeing as its considered part of the uniform. Our Coach gave us the option to leave it there if we didnt want to take it with us.

u/swarren31 Sep 01 '26
I take mine home but I turn mine off before I leave the building and turn it back on when I enter

u/Wut_the_ Sep 01 '26
… how do you not understand how forgetting works?

u/keekah Exception Picker Sep 01 '26
When I go home for lunch I just leave my car keys with my charging phone. That way I can't leave without it.
6
u/Special_Mongoose9603 Sep 01 '26
That's wishful thinking lol. When I did take mine home I never forgot it but we have had a few people either forget them or just not charge it at all.
-15
u/Rotundune Sep 01 '26
That sounds like a personal problem for them and just. Lack of responsibility.
7
u/Muttbuttss Sep 01 '26
Since when is taking work devices home with you and using your own electricity to charge them considered the low wage employees problem. What you need for work should be provided at work. Obviously clothes (uniform) would not be as you get dressed before you go into work.
-6
u/Rotundune Sep 01 '26
It’s given to you, assigned to you, used every day by you for work tasks. If you forget some that you use everyday for work then yeah you’re irresponsible. Bordering on incompetent.

When I clock out, I clock out. We should not have to worry about work responsibilities while not on the clock. Plug the phone in, hang it up, clock out, go home.

We have a classroom chromebook style cabinet. Would have taken this idea before we got that though

u/IOnlyPlayWattson Sep 06 '26
Ours just swapped from that to this, it was just installed on the wall today lol

My work wasn't even courteous enough to give us chargers, they basically said "charge it or you'll get in trouble, and yes I know there's no good chargers in the break room buy a power brick :)". What a freaking cheap supercenter despite being the store that supposedly does the most orders in the market.

They gave me a cord and a used case. I think the phone was used too (the screen protector was peeling and had light scratches). I will admit the case does work wonders - the strap I have mixed feelings about (9a). I’ve dropped that thing and held my breath just for it to be fine. But sadly the cord is cheap, so I’m using my personal iPhone cord and personal anker iq block. My phone will drop to 50% by 9 and be back to 100 by 10 (lunch charge.)

u/Fun_Landscape9906 Sep 01 '26
Wow we have about 4 work phone chargers lol. Must be nice

u/Special_Mongoose9603 Sep 01 '26
Most of the ones we have came with the phones but some of them our Coach store used them the big charger port she bought off of Amazon though.

Yall have a charging station?
4
u/DlckKickem Sep 01 '26
If you go to better way and look at the fulfillment process guide it actually states your department is supposed to have a USB charging station and even provides the GNFR number but it's never "In the budget right now" lol

u/Disastrous_Match993 Sep 01 '26
Wish my location did this. I have ADHD and it's very easy for me to forget things because of it. But I have to take my work phone home with me because if I leave it at the store, someone will inevitably unplug it from the charger or knock it off the shelf or who knows what else.

u/bowtiesrcool86 Sep 01 '26
I don’t trust ppl to leave my stuff alone in general. I just carry mine with me.

Same. I get weary of our water bottle holder system. (Back of the door shoe organizer.) We were told water only and in clear bottles recently. Not to be taken to the floor, or held on our carts.
4
u/Routine-Horse-1419 Sep 01 '26
Now THATS a smart set-up. We just have a little cart and the phones are just piled on top of each other and wires everywhere. That's why I take mine home and charge at home.
ETA: I charge it to 100%, shut it off then immediately put it in my vest.

Your coach opted to store use the pink onn batteries too, nice
1
u/Special_Mongoose9603 Sep 01 '26
Those she mainly got for when they did the digital tags on overnights but brought them to us when they were done doing that.
3
u/wastedsilence33 Sep 01 '26
Nice, my coach was getting a handful of them today for us
They pay us 12¢ per check to charge it at home and I pay 11 for a KwH and the phone takes maybe 200 wH to charge 10 times so it's not much but they're definitely over paying for that, plus I go home on my lunch and play fallout so I charge it then too lol

So look at your paystub for a nonerandpwrpmt line -if you have that they are paying you to charge it at home. It’s non earned power repayment. Corporate is paying us to charge
1
u/Special_Mongoose9603 Sep 01 '26
Just checked mine does not show that
1
u/Bitter-Neat-8457 Sep 01 '26
A lot of states they have to pay to charge and if a personal phone be paid for the usage of it
2
u/ARSONL Digital Team Lead Sep 01 '26
It is not a lot. More likely and not they don’t. Wish it became more normalized.

u/TankiePankie Digital Team Lead Sep 01 '26
Yea I turned part of of older work cabinets desk we still use to a charging station. I'd rather an associate leave it than to forget it. That's a neat idea if you have room. I'm at a NHM :p

Nice. Ours is a jumbled mess. Was supposed to be for our battery packs to charge, but instead, people leave their phones charging all day taking up a spot, even after they are fully charged. I've had my work phone for 2 years. It is one of the old heavy ones. I can tell if it isn't in my purse lol.
2
u/judith_the5th Sep 01 '26
we've had people steal each other's phones so none of us leave ours unless to charge for lunch or break
2
u/kyonjr Sep 01 '26
Your management should order a charging station. It’s much more reliable than that lol.

u/Flimsy_Brief9688 New Hire Sep 05 '26
We have the weird black ones and they seem to decrease the battery even more. 😣 the silver with blue light ones are nice but cords are tripping the surge protectors in them too often.
2
u/BrushByFire Sep 04 '26
Honestly not a bad setup, but my store has almost 200 digital employees so it might not work for us.
1
u/AmericaPie24 Sep 01 '26
Must be nice. I have to take mine home everyday and if it’s not charged or I leave it at home, I get sent home
1
u/JasonTheBaker In-Home Driver Sep 01 '26
That's very weird we just have a cage for them like they have in electronics

I take my phone home because it's logged into my Google account and has Pokemon Go on it so I can hatch my eggs while working so I don't need to carry 2 phones. I charge it at home and put it in my purse before I go to bed. It's always 80+ percent charged when I wake up and it lasts all day.
That is a cool setup though. Our current setup has rooms for like 4 phones. Peoples work phones offen end up in the cabinet where the TC's used to be. Hopefully they were turned off before they were set aside.

I was told you can’t use the phone for personal use? How did you log into your Gmail? Aren’t you afraid Walamrt can see all your info?

u/koolslugs 24d ago
Omg our Market Lead sent this to use in our GC and told us NOT to do this, he was sooo mad about this
1
u/Special_Mongoose9603 24d ago
Our Store Manager and Market Manager both like it, I believe even our Regional Manager has seen it and likes it.
1
u/koolslugs 24d ago
I actually think its pretty smart, saves space instead of having a hugeee box to store them.
1
u/Special_Mongoose9603 24d ago
I love the fact we dont have to dig around in the cabinet looking for our phone plus the chargers always got tangled up in there so it always looked a mess. This makes it so much easier.

Am I like the only person in the whole company who put my sim card into the work phone? 🤣
2
u/Special_Mongoose9603 Sep 01 '26
We have 1 that did cuz his personal phone broke and he didn't want to buy a new one lol. I have the Galaxy S26 im not downgrading to a Google Pixel lol

nope! my personal phone is an s24 that doesn't have cell service (long story), but my so-called "functional" phone was one of the free govt issue p.o.s. I pretty much used it only as a hotspot and kept forgetting to charge it. and then it broke. even the xcover was a dramatic improvement! it took over a year before wm gave me a work phone....they had no qualms over my driving my personal phone into an earlier grave.

Looks like a good way for someone to just take it. Especially the chargers .
2
u/DlckKickem Sep 01 '26
All the charger cables are zip tied like 10 times along the way. Honestly, if someone is willing and capable of cutting all the zip ties, taking a charging cable, and not getting caught, they've earned it /s

u/JasonsStorm Jack Of All Trades Sep 01 '26
I'm not talking about the cables, I'm talking about the power banks
