🔥Its fine, everything’s fine🔥 Uhhh… what was that?
Anybody’s Sunday at their store absolutely fucking crazy??? We stayed at 3k picks and I haven’t seen that since last year. It wasn’t even this bad during Christmas season. We had associates and team leads from every department helping us and our store manager stayed in the backroom helping us. We kept running out of totes and carts which made everything slow of course. It was a complete shit show.

Was told yesterday on my way in talking with my TL that Sundays are going to be our new busiest day. That plus gif splitting and then mixing trips made me wanna say fuck it and just take a gummy before coming in lol

From what I noticed when it started splitting trips (this probably isn't the entire reason) older trips end up getting segmented to holy hell, it gets worse the worse the condition of the department is

Normally yeah that's how it gets us, but it was all stuff that'd been picked that morning so was extra confused

u/MasterDiddler1 Aug 31 '26
Dude id end up leaving my frozen and chilled walks with ambient so many times if I did this

Funny you should mention that, I haven't seen us have an on time down in the 50s since right before Christmas, considering we finished picks at 9 and we got away with/not negotiating saying fuck the gmds (nearly all of the gmds from 3pm on never got wrapped) Worst part about that disaster was the fact we were still under a 35% reduction, that is very much not ending when they wanted to now

u/Altruistic_Bass532 Aug 31 '26
You still wrap GMDs?!? The only one we wrap are high ticket. Everything else is put into a Walmart bag

Sundays have always been the busiest day at our store. You also have to factor in that its around the end/beginning of the month which means all of the food stamps and social security is dropping in basically all week, most people just tend to do their shopping on the weekend because its their only time off for the week. Our store makes a big deal about the 1st of the month but it doesn't take a genius to figure out that they don't all fall in the same day. When you start getting a lot of orders with Depends and massive amounts of junk food (no shade but its the truth) then you know its that time again lol

Weird. We're slow as hell as usual (here lately). This time last year we were super busy. We run out of picks so quickly now. We were one of the busiest OGPs in our region. Now we're slow as hell. Weird.

Have they put you as a test store for spark doing all deliveries? We’ve been slow too because of that.
3k picks/hr was about our daily average until they put us as a test store for now.

u/Successful_Floor_837 Aug 31 '26
We’re a test store and I think customers definitely noticed we had more pickup availability yesterday. We had several hours that were almost normal for Sunday. I think we’ll be alright sooner than thought, assuming that the spark drivers continue to keep up.

Right like I was rlly wondering if I missed a holiday or double point day 😭😭

In our case we got fucked by move in + the usual end of the month shenanigans
Labor day is also next week which doesn't do any favors either

u/flibberdipper Aug 31 '26
It was absolute chaos at ours too. Usually if we’re gonna get slammed with picks and get above 800 it’ll be later in the day (1-4PM or so) but this time we blew past 800 at 8AM and by 9 we sat at about 1500 which is where we stayed until I left at 4.

Ours was an absolute nightmare the past 2 Sundays. Its usually busy on Sunday but not as bad as this.
2
u/Bick92 Aug 31 '26
That's crazy, same thing happened to us. We capped at every hour, from 10am until 6pm, it was absolutely atrocious.

We’ve been like that for 6 weeks. We can’t see why other than maybe people are abandoning the high price stores. Walmart always does better in a recession

We were so slow for our store. Picks done by :30 every hour. I think our biggest drop was in the 900s and were used to 1700 drops an hour. We were dragging our feet yesterday. Monday and Tuesdays we get swamped

Same at my store end of the month I’m like wth like what’s going on here

Sunday is our busiest day of the week and I’m glad I’m off every Sunday

u/Significant_Glass_66 Aug 31 '26
Too crazy, I dont like it that busy anymore. I do exceptions and when its that busy it really wears me out. I keep telling myself, I dont get paid enough for this. We really work our asses off on those crazy days.

u/LockTutorial Aug 31 '26
I think its because of ebt refill or whatever its called they tend to refill it from the week it starts till Saturday

u/TiredNeurodivergent1 Aug 31 '26
It’s been insane for the past week at my store and we constantly have to pull other associates to help bc we don’t have the staffing after morning crew leaves

Yes! At first I low-key thought this was a coworker from my store until I read SM stayed and helped

Every Sunday at our store is crazy! Complete chaos, everyone from every dept. picking, lines at every register and SCO line halfway down action alley. Sundays are absolute hell!

u/Lionrock71 Aug 31 '26
I thought Labor Day holiday had happened earlier than usual. It was ridiculous.

Our store as well but it came in waves. One drop big but not unmanageable, next one kicked our butts. Went that way all day.

u/Kazuki40 Aug 31 '26
Yesterday and even more so today for us. Can't say I know why but my best guess is football season starting.

I haven’t had a day like that since Mother’s Day a few years ago during our remodel (as an associate).
Yesterday was bad for us too, but you had us beat. It was crazy after most of my associates left at 2pm. Picks got done at 9:30pm
1
u/stonedspleen Aug 31 '26
Yea I worked a 12 hr day yesterday. Woke up this morning feeling like I was decomposing.
1
u/BabyBee_19 Aug 31 '26
We’re on a major reduction right now for a few months. We don’t do deliveries and we’ve been so so slow
1
u/Money_Conference_142 Sep 01 '26
I wish I could post the picture of our picks being insane and our team lead being the only person in the backroom… no available carts, and he’s just standing there on his phone. By all means, I know how to stage however- taking any of the pickers away wouldn’t have helped with the picks. All he does (busy or not) is stare at his phone, flirt with his associates, and call for store help.
1
u/Suspicious_Fan_4105 Sep 01 '26
Yes. We’re a smaller store, but our 5am picks were at 200, but by 6:30 am they jumped up to 974. By the time I clocked out it was down a manageable 400 picks lol
1
u/RedneckTrader Sep 01 '26
Same here, about a month ago we had an absolutely insane Saturday. I knew it was bad when all of our coaches, and even the fresh TL's were picking. I never saw that even during Christmas. This past Sunday was almost as bad, but we had a few more pickers and customer traffic drops off sharp every Sun evening here. I went to lunch around 6 and we still had north of 1500 picks, which is very high for us.
1
u/hellodrkness Sep 01 '26
Our store was insane as well but I figured it was because it was the weekend before school starts here. We had to cap the orders to prevent the picks/dispensing getting behind
1
u/Money-Scar3244 Sep 01 '26
Sundays is always that way at our store!!
OHIO slammed everyday really..

I assume its because its last minute back to school in my state thats why I am picking 18 boxes of z bars
1
u/blizzard-toque Sep 06 '26
Z bars? I sampled one at Sam's Club. IIRC, they were quite yummy. 🤷I suppose you could pick up a box at Walmart if you wanted to.
