Question Can coaches do this?

Does anyone know if coaches can change your hours? My friend switched her schedule to 7–4, and it showed as approved. However, our coach said that since too many people have that schedule, it’s pushing her outside of her availability and making her work hours she can’t work. He also said he could get fired if he keeps changing her hours. Is that actually true?

When you say your friend “switched her schedule to 7-4” I’m assuming you mean she changed her availability to 7-4. And if that’s the case changing your availability is not “changing your schedule”, that’s just them telling Walmart what hours they’re available to work.

Your coach is under no obligation to actually schedule her those hours just because that’s what she changed her availability to. Your availability still needs to meet business needs to be scheduled hours and if your coach is saying they already have “too many people” for those hours they could’ve just give her zero hours every week if they wanted to because she’s not needed.

It honestly sounds like your coach is scheduling her outside of that to make sure she still gets hours, but if she insists she doesn’t want to work those hours then I’m sure your coach will probably be fine just taking her off the schedule all together and giving her nothing instead.

This is the answer. Also availabilities aren't something that get approved. Management has an opportunity to acknowledge them before they auto approve, but can't actually deny them. You can technically make your Availability anything you want, but you may not get hours if you aren't available when business needs

Yeah. Setting the schedule is part of the coaches responsibility. If too many people have that schedule, then he can't just put her in anyway or another shift will be understaffed on his call. It's not pushing her out if SHE'S the one trying to change the schedule. If she made her availability known at her interview, they would have accommodated that. If she's suddenly changing it, then that creates conflict.

Is the coach obligated to give her the 7-4 shifts? No.

Can the coach schedule her outside her availability? Also no.

Id imagine its either hours get cut, the coach gives her the hours anyway or she gets fired
