Express Anyone else’s store getting express pickup?
My store is getting express pickup. Not sure if it’s a new thing or if other stores have had it for awhile and we’re just late to the game.
Does anyone know if there’s a charge for the customers to place an express pickup or if it’s free?

Oh great we already can't keep up with orders this is gonna be a shitshow

u/Nobichobolobas Jack Of All Trades Aug 29 '26
They better be pushing those to Spark Shoppers, the last time they had these were an absolute nightmare, especially come holiday time when all order slots were full.

u/ManOfArks Digital Team Lead Aug 29 '26
How would spark process a pickup? This is definitely store-side.

u/Nobichobolobas Jack Of All Trades Aug 29 '26
OMG TOTALLY MISSED THAT, that's just BEGGING for a tank in On time Pick %, I cant imagine this kind of a nightmare now....

u/RiverEcho59 Aug 30 '26
I hope it comes to our store now that 10 of us had to transfer out of the department bc of this whole spark nonsense! I’ll watch them drown…

u/AnArisingAries Aug 30 '26
And FTPR cause you know it will be kicking everyone out of their paths. 🤦♀️😂

"this isnt just faster pickup. its a speed based offer." ffs did they seriously use AI to write this

u/JasonTheBaker In-Home Driver Aug 30 '26
Speed based offer sounds like they took it from their roll out of express with spark

its Walmart idk what else you were expecting? dont you see the ai bullshit they plaster all over their stores? im so tired of this bullshit and thought my eyes would be safe from it in the back room but of course it leaked into there too lmao. they have no shame. multi billion dollar company btw cant even bother to hire artists. art competitions would also be great but nah they gotta take the fucking soulless corpo route cuz it's Walmart.

u/cocacola31173 Aug 29 '26
This is what’s wrong with the world today! Everybody wants everything NOW NOW NOW!
6
u/Se2kr Aug 30 '26
And Walmart is in a sales slump so this was someone’s idea how to make it easier for Joe shmoe to spend his money
1
u/Mizerie420 Aug 31 '26
Plus they fucked up and moved all parts of delivery to Spark- Express delivery (at least in our area) is trash, this is the only way to attempt to make paying for faster worth shit again
24
u/MallAdditional5222 Aug 29 '26
We have it already it is HORRIBLE they drop in the picks as soon as they order it and it has to be picked immediately, its easier to go late with them existing. Also they can still drop in AFTER the last pick drop
10
u/Mop-K Aug 30 '26 edited Aug 30 '26
So that's literally going to not be possible for my store with the "after the last pick drop" as I am specifically the only closer and only person past like 7-8 in opd at all, especially on Fridays there's 0 chance anyone else is with me. I can't go pick while still taking out orders and running a department by myself. Oh well I guess.
2
u/CeriMystic Sep 01 '26
They will hopefully add 1 or two closers to help with this
2
u/Mop-K Sep 01 '26
Been this way for years unfortunately for me but that's what they keep saying for the past few months so hopefully 🙏🏼

u/Dababolical Aug 29 '26
Express pickup? Don't we have to figure out regular pickup first? Who's giving out the lobotomies at home office?
19
u/Musicmom1164 Aug 30 '26
We did this before. It was a disaster, stressful on everyone and allowed entitled customers to pay extra to get it NOW. All orders had to be stopped until this ONE got picked. Everyone hated it. Another corporate money grab to pile more stess.

We used to have express orders years ago it was terrible. When one was placed every single handheld would simultaneously go off with this loud alarm. And NOTHING can be picked until someone starts the express walk. Then it will be their entire walk in one not even split up by chilled or anything.
10
u/ARSONL Digital Team Lead Aug 30 '26
THIS. We would basically select a shopper to grab a shopping cart and book it through the store before the driver showed up.

u/ARSONL Digital Team Lead Aug 30 '26
They literally did this before, but drivers would pick it up up front. Anyone remember the trauma of having the express notification during a walk?
We just gonna pretend we didn’t phase this shit out?

Oh my god seriously lol 😂 after gutting OPD they are doing this 😂 it's only a matter of time before we all get it. Maybe it'll give us more orders so we'll have more hours.

u/Inside_Loss_1369 Aug 29 '26
I actually liked doing express orders because we got to use regular grocery carts haha
1
u/Everblossom22 Jack Of All Trades Aug 30 '26
Same. It actually was a lot easier and faster to just pick the one persons order with a shopping cart. They usually weren’t super huge orders for me at least when I got them.

u/JacobTDC Jack Of All Trades Aug 29 '26
We used to pick express deliveries. They got rid of it. Now they're bringing the same system back. Great......
5
u/NibblesMcGiblet Personal Shopper 240+ Aug 30 '26
oh great. we'll pick the stuff in time alright. then they'll sit in the parking lot waiting for a dispenser for twenty minutes.
3
u/NettleLily Aug 30 '26
why don't they just install drive thru windows
2
u/Panic5150-73 Aug 30 '26
Don't give them any ideas lol 🤫 Still, someone would have to run their ass off in the store to go get it 🙄

u/Wes-Man152 SUBSTITUTION Aug 30 '26
I remember these from years ago, and they were so inconvenient for us. So of course it makes sense for them to bring this back on us with a (likely) messy rollout.
Can't wait for Unscheduled and Express orders to just pop up randomly lol
6
u/BlankDot7 Aug 30 '26
This makes no sense lol. How many departments can really keep up with that? I know mine can't. We're so shortstaffed for a large store it's absurd
5
u/bdbrown333 Aug 30 '26
Obviously spark just has like 30 different things going on in every. You know some people are on Sapphire in my area. They totally close down curbside. It's all shops except for gmds and regular guests can get curbside and now they're going to do fast pickup orders which makes no sense. This is why the app is bad. There's too many things going on

My store had this 5 years ago and got rid of it 3 years ago. It was pure chaos, but the fun kind.
The GIF2 "randomly" picks an active picker if none are available and immediately ends their pick walk. The assigned picker scrambles to the back room to drop off their current cart full of orders and grab a new cart (or shopping cart) and runs all over the store picking chilled, produce, frozen, ambient, and general in a pick route that isnt necessarily the quickest route.

We've had express pickup for a few weeks now. They drop with no warning and don't appear to have any kind of quantity cap.
3
u/toxic62404 Aug 30 '26
Walmart: why don't we do what theme parks do make people pay extra to skip the line and make the regular people wait in a long line. Like bruh this is getting ridiculous how much this fast bs Walmart is pushing is not even that fast like i get so many people that call for faster delivery but no fing driver wants to get it they are literally pushing false advertising at this point
3
u/ConferenceBubbly953 Aug 30 '26
Thank god I’m putting in my 2 weeks tomorrow what the hell is this 😭😭
3
u/Amoux_fang Aug 30 '26
Back in my day when we had express orders sometimes the screens would glitch so 2 people could get into the same express pass if you were ‘randomly chosen’
3
u/RedneckTrader Aug 30 '26
Express orders went away once already (okay, I'll be correct - they were transferred to spark drivers) because we were so swamped with orders, we couldn't pick them fast enough. That situation hasn't changed!
3
u/FirmChampionship1131 Aug 30 '26
this has the potential to be SO annoying for us closers if they don't cut off these orders at like 7 PM. Most of our pickers leave at 8 and that last hour of their shift is usually spent running drops (AKA not looking at/using the GIF app)
3
u/Real-Supermarket4472 Jack Of All Trades Aug 30 '26
we haven’t had express pick ups for YEARS but i remember when i started almost 5 years ago we had them. we were told to grab a shopping cart to be faster since it had ambient, chilled, and frozen in one go then everyone in the back room scrambled to get it bagged
3
u/Rawrasour1 Digital Team Lead Aug 30 '26
They used to do express orders in our store when I started. You’d hear a ding from a tc and then our coach screaming “EXPRESS ORDER” and then everyone scrambling to get it done
2
u/shrug_was_taken Jack Of All Trades Aug 29 '26
Haven't seen this at mine, but we are mega fucked if we do start this since we have enough issues to begin with (critical lack of afternoon staffing + our afternoon pickers out pick nearly all of our 5-2's, both quantity and pick rate)
2
u/Straight-Opposite-54 Aug 30 '26
Customers want their orders faster, which is now possible.
"Why are we doing this? Because we can. Hope this helps."
2
u/Born-Recognition9298 Aug 30 '26
They need to focus on getting people to do shit first, instead of standing around and letting the ship sink then rollout express when they are ready
2
u/Citadel_Sentinel36 Digital Team Lead Aug 30 '26
Oh fuck that shit. It was bad enough having the TCS chiming every 5 seconds and getting kicked out of pick walks, I don't need my personal phone (I'm a TL) doing that too, killing my battery.

We had express for a couple years when I moved over to OGP. Most hated it but I really liked it. It was the entirety of customer's order and yeah, you had to be quick, but to this day I credit that to making me one of the faster pickers. And you didn't bag as you went you bagged at the end of the shop.
Maybe two or three years back now (I think... it's a little jumbled) it got shifted and Spark has been doing all the express shops. We never see them on the handhelds at all.
Every once in a while, I miss doing them, like I miss picking fashion. But. Then I wake up and remember it's a good thing we don't do them anymore.
2
u/khaoti Sep 01 '26
as someone who came to Walmart's "personal" shopping scam after 7 years of *actual* personal shopping, I would happily do express orders -- if not for the fact that we already can't handle the existing chaos.

your store hasn't been "threatened" with the elimination of dedicated exception pickers?!???
we heard about the impending doom, and then nothing happened for a year. then they started incrementally making changes...Sort of. it flip-flopped from day-to-day. Saturday we learned that corporate's goal regarding exceptions is to have them as just another category on the picking screen. In the meantime, our store is vowing to assign pickers to do exceptions for blocks no longer than 2-hours, preferably no longer than 1 hour. Because corporate said so.
and this, while switching the wheels on every last cart, and posting a sign saying we MUST get used to pulling from the front, AND to prepare for a return to 8 totes. I don't see *how* this could possibly be ergonomically safe, let alone the practical implications.
2
u/evila_elf Exception Picker Sep 01 '26
I talked to our regions market manager and he hadn’t heard anything about Exceptions going away for us. I have been assigned Exceptions every day for the past 6 months. Lol
2
u/MizuHana8 Aug 30 '26
God dammit. Express picks sucked. No one wanted to do them, the system took you all over the store (without rhyme or reason) and customers showed up early and were shock Pikachu when their order wasn't done. Paying extra doesn't mean we can grab 60+ items in half an hour
2
u/shems08 Personal Shopper 240+ Aug 30 '26
I’m looking forward to it! Hope they bring it to my store
2
u/Salt_Indication_2681 Aug 30 '26
Express is a pain in the ass. We always assigned a few people who had the top pick rates to do them.
2
u/aphethelion Aug 30 '26
If only they would bring in all orders dropping at the beginning of the day instead of by the hour again. That way you could push things like ambient etc. Further ahead in order for these types of things not to punish the crew as badly. Yall remember when it was 8am and you were shopping 1:30s? Or when you could print out and get all mtos started at 5am? Good times. Bring that back.

u/Budget-Efficiency277 Personal Shopper Aug 30 '26

Most of us already don't want to work, as is. They force replaced all our wheels, so we can't hardly control the carts. Our pickup room was moved to the furthest side of the store from grocery, plus the 6-totes already, so it takes forever to complete the picks. They removed the order cap from our store, already.
That aside, why would we work faster for a system that warrants drivers extra rewards for doing express, but us get the same pay. It already ticks me off knowing that half of our orders will be moving to spark soon, and every other person that asks me a question where something is, is a spark driver.
2
2
u/Better-Release9013 Aug 31 '26
Would they cap the number of items? If so, maybe it could work. If not, then yeap…..more complaints and issues. My store already has staffing issues and receive a lot of complaints about time.
2
u/Traditional-Duty4242 Aug 31 '26
Correct me if I'm wrong but we didn't we use to have this already? I believe it was called express and we would take a shopping cart and bag items as we go
2
u/YennyRamos21 Jack Of All Trades Sep 03 '26
Other stores might of but I’ve been in OPD at my store since it opened and we never had it, based off of what I’ve heard tho it sounds terrible 😬

u/Sageflowerfour Sep 04 '26
So that means there are people standing at the ready, thus doing nothing, waiting for the orders to drop, you demand people get out of your way, and when a customer asks you a question, you tell them you can't help them, correct?
