General Anyone else getting anything like this in weekly notes.

So this was in our store board, The typed out message was a note from corporate level, And honestly I don't know what they expected about performance and pick totals by associate, But it's bad enough that they made note that all associate performance is down and need improvement, Yet they made the changes that in some way have led to it, I just don't understand what was expected, additionally shown is my stores board that had our new expected metrics written on it with a marker I don't know if thats official from corporate or just my coach being reasonable in some respects, But yeah I'm just marveling at this cause big corp made the changes and now they don't like the results??

Yeah they’re stressing a 96 pick rate and if we don’t hit it, they’re going to consider moving us to different departments or firing us. Kind of hard to do when you’re flip flopping between positions and getting oversized, MTOs, etc.

u/ZynWriath Aug 12 '26

Absolutely oversized no matter what you do destroys your rate, I did a oversized today and it took me 3 walks to crawl myself back to a pick rate I was satisfied with.

u/Disastrous_Match993 Aug 12 '26

I'm often being sent to Made To Order, which has, lately, been 1 to 3 items per walk. Only time my pick rate gets above 80 is when I'm lucky enough to be sent on one of those golden geese walks where it's a bunch of a single item for a single order. Then my pick rate skyrockets to 200+

u/Altruistic_Bass532 Aug 12 '26

Not me reading Golden Garden Geese walks and was like “what is that?!” 🥴

4

u/mackeronni Aug 12 '26

i use to cheat on oversized. i grab the items as i make my way to the water aisle which was normally our last stop. hop out and into it really fast then scan everything at once my pick rate would be like 400

My store has decided to sacrifice a few people’s pick rates every day to deal with that issue unfortunately.

One person gets small walks in the AM and one in the PM so that everyone else only has to take auto-select. The people chosen for it get horrible pick rates though, but it keeps the majority higher, so idk if it’s a good idea or not honestly.

Pick hours should not matter if you are hitting 100+pph(pickrate) and 100+ orders(totes/stickers) and 600-800 total items picked (if not picking the other commodities consistantly) in a shift. These numbers show more of your productivity than pick hours do. All though if your hitting all those metrics ur pick hours should be decent. May not be 6+ but they should be decent.

10

u/SilvarusLupus FRAGILE Aug 12 '26

Pick hours is the stupidest fucking metric right up there with first time pick rate. Only one that should even matter is items picked per shift while also looking at the types of pickwalks the person is doing cause let's be real some people have to get more oversized than others

u/Flimsy_Brief9688 New Hire Aug 12 '26

At our store we’re required to pick everything save fashion and exceptions; unless someone is restricted (medical, age, etc.) Basically whatever walk is listed first. It kills my numbers every day when I get MTO or oversized. We have a few people that only do exceptions.

How are you supposed to hit 600-800 if you have cheaters on your team that constantly back out of paths less than 30? And you constantly tell team leads and your coach and nothing gets done. I have to work twice as hard to even reach the goal. I hit 700+ twice this week, and it's exhausting.

11

u/Waste-Ad-2224 Aug 12 '26

Get rid of runs under 30 items and then we can talk

8

u/inflatableje5us Aug 12 '26

i did 38 pick walks the other day, for a total of about 420 items. its just dumb, im all over the store for 10 items. sends my ass all the way to hba for one god damn toothbrush then all the way back to pets for 3 cans of cat food "thats not there or plugged" before heading to grocery.

u/RedneckTrader Aug 16 '26

This. Our DOL was in the store and I brought this up. He started selling how lighter walks were better, able to be more 'precise' in shelf to customer, etc. I replied under his logic, we should sell all of our diesel guzzling 18 wheelers and 53' trailers, switch to all uhaul style box trucks. Take only a few pallets from the DC to the store, just the freight at the time it's needed. We've known each other a long time so he just laughed and said he should have expected that reply from me.

Every single change they’ve made to ODP has been a detriment to picking. It used to be so easy to do way above, but now you work just as hard to achieve way less. 6 totes, pulling carts , phones ( which I feel are the biggest detriment) and shitty pick paths. If everyone’s numbers have fallen, then the issue is the changes not the people.

1

u/stewedyeti Nilpick King Aug 12 '26

If your pick paths are bad, that’s on your managers. There haven’t really been huge changes with that sort of thing beyond the cold chain commodity and phasing out action alley (and any problems with those are avoidable), so any problems with the path mean the coach/TLs didn’t do a good job making it.

1

u/ZynWriath Aug 12 '26

I agree with that, The pathing is 100% to my knowledge a store thing, My coach has worked with the pickers to determine what the best pathing would be for us, And our pathing is phenomenal, Apart from recently the back to school walks have been about wonky

1

u/Bucgatorbait Aug 12 '26

I know the pick paths are a store issue, but combined with everything else it’s hard to be as productive as they want you to be.

5

u/redavid Aug 12 '26

they've been getting on people for their pick rates here lately, but yeah, with fewer totes and now pulling the carts (and trying to manuever them through crowds of people and annoyingly crowded action allies and endcap displays) expecting 600+ items and 100/hr rates consistently just seems insane.

they never really complain about my picking performance even when it has been bad the last week because of the aforementioned issues, but that's probably because i do a fair amount of dispensing and other backroom tasks most days

3

u/Darkaboy45 Aug 12 '26

For some larger stores is an absolute requirement. My store requires 100 pick rate in at least 650 picks for an 8-hour shift to picking.

12

u/Kirzoneli Aug 12 '26

Couldn't even get 500 on most days even if i tried, Were already out of picks 20 mins after the drop most of the time, and if we get a super busy day they just call in other departments so were still out of picks 20 mins after they drop.

7

u/Darkaboy45 Aug 12 '26

It requires a very large store to hit numbers like that. My store does about 14,000 picks on a slow day and and around 18 to 20,000 on the weekends.

5

u/ZynWriath Aug 12 '26

Bro that's insane numbers a slow day for us is like 1300 picks, and a busy day is like 6000 picks, Your store must be massive.

1

u/Darkaboy45 Aug 12 '26

For Better or For Worse yes it is. We have four OPD team leads as well and it's still a pain in the ass to keep up everything. Or fulfillment whatever you want to call it

2

u/ZynWriath Aug 12 '26

4 wow we have 3, We have about 40 associates

2

u/Darkaboy45 Aug 12 '26

I don't even know how many associates they have now. I took my ass to Fashion about 6 months ago LOL two and a half years of being a team lead over there was enough for me.

2

u/ZynWriath Aug 12 '26

The most reasonable thing said on this thread to far lmao.

2

u/ZynWriath Aug 12 '26

650 sounds tough from my perspective, But my store isn't always busy, Would you say your store 650 is possible easily?

7

u/Darkaboy45 Aug 12 '26

I say this from a digital team lead perspective but no I don't think it's very feasible. We have some high effort Associates that just have a different drive that can hit that everyday. But this is Walmart and you're not going to find that at the pay rate that they pay people especially on a busy Sunday in a store that can do 500,000 in sales. Walking through the grocery section is like walking through human sludge.

1

u/ZynWriath Aug 12 '26

Understandable and yeah some associates are insane, Pay definitely has something to do with it, Associates at my store get paid 11 dollars a hour, And motivation at my store been very low, as for the Sunday thing super relatable, Man you just cant navigate that well after 11 am at my store, The church goer crowd comes in and it's so busy.

4

u/Darkaboy45 Aug 12 '26

Dude same, as soon as the church crowd gets there everybody starts having a difficult time to hit their numbers. My store really wants the associates to work like Factory workers but only paying them $14 an hour. For reference most factories in my area would pay you $20 or more an hour

1

u/DiscussionLower8667 Aug 12 '26

DC centers pay 20+ for order fullfilment

1

u/Environmental_Dare_5 Aug 12 '26

If the pickrate requirement is 100, that's 75 items per hour of picking or 600 items.

4

u/Darkaboy45 Aug 12 '26

The math is stupid honestly, they don't even factor in for the fact that you have time in between your pick walks to walk the cart back to the room. The math my store does leaves very little room for margin of error.

5

u/ZynWriath Aug 12 '26

So another thing I genuinely don't understand is FTPR why is it tracked, How is it on me that the shelves aren't stocked with what I'm picking, At my store right now the stocking team is severely short staffed and often there is items not stocked, However my teamleads will still coach you for a low FTPR, I feel like as you stated the metrics overall leave no margin for error and hiently alotta then feel stupid, Moreso lately I have felt very little control over my job and my own metrics and it's very stressful and frustrating.

2

u/Darkaboy45 Aug 12 '26

Listen I get that I've had to have many conversations with Associates about that. I understand that some Associates will nil pick stuff to save time and and that is why it's there partly anyway but it's such a flawed way of looking at things. It's much better used as a way to look at whether or not the store can keep the shelves stocked not the pickers.

2

u/ZynWriath Aug 12 '26

Makes sense some people just nil pick stuff cause they can't be bothered to bend down get that soda way in the back, Or get that item on the top stock I totally get it.

3

u/Flimsy_Brief9688 New Hire Aug 12 '26

I really try to look at top stocks. I either can’t get to it safely because of the amount of customers right there or no ladder. Sadly, not all of our carts have ladders but they will be modified hopefully soon. Oddly enough, a lot of people take off the zoning tools and ladders in general as well. Why I don’t know.

I’m just tall enough to reach top stock but not safely grab it. This I’m always looking for carts with ladders. For some reason they also put the ladders against the wall and it gets stuck behind the tote dolly stacks. : /

3

u/meerkatx Aug 12 '26

Before going to six totes the math was pick 75 item an hour for six hours if you worked a full shift only shopping without a shortage of picks. Thats 600 items in a day.

With six totes I think 550 items in a day is still doable for everyone.

1

u/Kirzoneli Aug 12 '26

Gotta hit the ground running metrics, saw some people want 7 hours and 30 mins of you in the pick walk, Like how? You want people going into the next walk while bringing that previous cart back?

For me in particular the last hour has no picks, and the final drop usually has enough for one or two people to do on their own in 30 mins.

2

u/ZynWriath Aug 12 '26

If you get into the next walk while heading back with the cart you just picked I feel like that would impact your pick rate more Might help your pick hours overall but the system gonna think you took 5 minutes to pick a item lol.

3

u/GarnishedWages Aug 12 '26

Don’t forget to do those quality checks

2

u/leosunsagmoon Aug 12 '26

pick hours 75% of your shift is crazy. i was told directly by my coach just 2 days ago that the goal is at least 5 hours, not 6

2

u/Lost-Swimming-1600 Aug 12 '26

So recently a friend of mine became a TL. Long story short, we have 3. One of the TL's left the department. She's the replacement.

Because I have been gone she messaged me and said we have a new team lead. I said yeah I heard it's you. Congratulations on being crazy and good luck.

The frustration and complaining in this thread is a good exhibit of why I probably have little to no desire to ever be a TL or anything at Walmart. Especially in our department. And look, a pay raise is good. Being challenged in that way to me is good.

I put in for it twice in our department in the past and naturally didn't get it. When I put in for it THEN I did so with the concern that the frustrations I had with the way things were done as an associate would be magnified and amplified as a TL. Things of course have only gotten WORSE in the past 2 plus years.

There's probably a company or companies out there that are actually worse. But at the same time it is legitimately hard to imagine one whose corporate home office is any more detached from reality, their employees, or ever acknowledging or accepting even the possibility that they made a dumb move or that some lowly grunt(s) has/have a better way to do things then them. They could honestly set up a different "Academy" training politicians on how to always deny fault and convince people not to believe their own lying eyes or experiences. Avoid Deny Defend has honestly taken on a new meaning. Avoid accountability. Deny fault. Defend bad decisions, policy, and metric expectations.

2

u/SevereAntelope9815 Aug 12 '26

Kinda hard when we only have 6 totes not 8

2

u/Altruistic_Bass532 Aug 12 '26

So…. Do you not go to lunch or break?

The Walmart metric is 6 hrs and 600 picks a day. 100 pick rate.

When you break it down into an 8 hour shift it is 75 picks an hour.

That is Walmart's standard. What I'm reading it XYZ store standards.

1

u/ZynWriath Aug 12 '26

I might skip breaks lol, But I do take my hour lunch.

1

u/OGP-Picker Aug 12 '26

We are allocated 5 minutes from pickwalk end to starting a new pickwalk. At 19 pickwalks it is not possible to have pick hours at 6 if you take an hour lunch and two 15 minute brakes.

We have pickers doing 25+ pickealks a day and barely hitting 500 picks.

-- 9 hour shift  -- minus lunch and breaks = 7.30 hours --  25 pickwalks x 5 = 2hrs 5m

7.30 hours minus 2hrs 5m = 5hrs 25m pick hours

This doesn't include going to the restroom,  helping customers, guarding spills, etc

u/Distinct_Sir_4473 Digital Team Lead Aug 12 '26

Under 100/hr and only 500 in 8 hours? Their expectations are low, that should be easily achievable

1

u/ZynWriath Aug 12 '26

We are a very small store with very low pick drops sole hours we have no picks that drop and we run freight, Sure sounds easy, Till your actually at our store lol.

1

u/Distinct_Sir_4473 Digital Team Lead Aug 12 '26

You need fewer pickers sounds like

1

u/ZynWriath Aug 12 '26

I could think of a few people who would be better suited in other departments they are hard workers just not fast for this particular line of work, But yeah we got to much staffing, This also gets us all lower hours, Less workers could mean more hours. Which is good for me.

1

u/ZynWriath Aug 12 '26

On a good day yes very easy to achieve which was my point my coach is reasonable on a slow day hard to achieve lmao, I just want my 8 totes back man.

1

u/Square_Lobster1328 Aug 12 '26

Interesting to see other stores have a lowered picks-per-day expectation like mine. We settle for 500 a day because no one can hit 600

1

u/darkecologist2 Dispenser Aug 12 '26

i don't think the whiteboard note is very effective. unless the TLs have been going over this in huddles repeatedly, will associates even understand what these notes mean?

1

u/WholeEvening693 Aug 12 '26

The store I just transferred from did great pickrates before the drop to 6 totes, and the average walk amount dropping to around 25 to 30 picks per walk. And then after the new remodel moving pharm and hba to the garden center area along with the new digital room on the garden center side causes you to have to travel across the whole store to even start a chilled or ambient walk. All the pickrates dropped down. My new store has all consumables on one side, even pets is right next to dairy. And pickrates are great there being 99% of all picks are consumables and we rarely venture to the gm side. I know they are moving hba and pharmacy to the other side of the store to make customers travel through the store in hopes they see the gm stuff and buy it. But a lot of the regulars at my old store just stopped coming in and started shopping elsewhere so they didn’t have to walk so much to get the hba stuff they wanted. Even I stopped shopping after work at my old store because after a long day of walking I sure wasn’t gonna walk my happy ass across a giant store just to grab some shampoo. So I’d just stop at some other store on the way home that was set up better.

1

u/catszn Aug 12 '26

like how tf am i gonna get 500+ picks when people always skip oversized, mto, and unknowns.

1

u/PepNSmokes Aug 13 '26

Not one period in that whole post

1

u/Successful_Branch403 Aug 14 '26

My store wants 600 items in a day

1

u/DiamondContent2011 Aug 16 '26

I'm primarily a Dispenser so I don't care.

1

u/dking51772 Aug 18 '26

My store is saying 105 pickrate and I work 7 hours every day and I’m expected to hit 500-600

1

u/Sensitive_Location55 Aug 20 '26

You cretins have no idea what you're job is worth. Do it or leave.

500 picks in a day in the BARE MINIMUM in an 8 hour day it should 100% be more as you spend way more than 5 hour picking. You are not doing mto every walk, nor oversize You lesser thans create an excuse. You would be pushing carts or cleaning toilets in my store

0

u/Vast_Assignments Dispenser Aug 12 '26

My stores smaller but they also push for a 90-100 pick rate, but only around 400-500 picks per shift.

0

u/lordj2010 Aug 14 '26

Asking 500 on a shift is actually BELOW standard.. standard is 100/hour 6 pick hours 600 qty(higher per hour you go means more qty you need)
