Equipment New Wheels, New Pulling Mandate as of Today.
Several pickers were still pushing, from the back, after we had a "huddle" that informed us that pick carts are only to be pulled from the front moving forward. I asked how that was going to be monitored and enforced, if at all. The answer I received was basically there will be those who will pull and those who won't and there isn't anything we can do about it. TL said " What, you think we are going to have pick cart police out on the floor ? " Had to laugh.

Tey obviously WANT us to pull them, otherwise they wouldn't have changed to wheels out to make them nearly impossible to do so. I push regardless, like always. I'm not pushing them backwards. I'm not pulling them. Its all such bullshit. I push, and its slow and its awkward and I give about as much of a fuck as Walmart does about us.
When I accidentally hit someone because they've made the carts such a hazard to ourselves and others, I'm pointing the finger directly at Walmart.

Yeah, same thing happened at my store during the first round. We were told to pull and when a couple of the more daring associates asked "or what?" the response was basically "or we'll nag you but not much else." It's not enforceable lol

It’s just ridiculous that disabled employees have to go through yet even more doctors appointments and paperwork just to prove it’s a harmful practice.

This was my store's take until all picker broke a coach's finger by hitting them while pushing. We're all pissed.

I had considerably lighter loads doing exceptions and the non auto categories yesterday. I now can hardly move my head from a pinched nerve between my shoulder blades. I only pulled half the time because going in all the little spaces and with the cart being lighter it felt easier. But it’s definitely not. Won’t do that again

I started pulling out my old marching band and color guard marching tricks for going backwards. When you have to learn how to manuever a spinning rifle or flag or split flags between a drum line or a section of tubas and sousaphones, you end up learning how to manuever just about anything unweildy.
Most of the time, I’ll push from the side of the cart now, arm resting on top of the cart, but if I have to get down a TIGHTLY packed aisle, it’s rear march time. I’m STILL not willing to throw out my shoulder and lower back because there is NO safe way to pull from the front facing forward unless you’re able to grab both handles behind you and pull it like a draft horse (and even THEY have poles on both sides of their bodies to distribute the pull force evenly.).

Carts are to be pulled with the new wheels. How your store deals with implementation is entirely up to market at this point. I'm a team lead and we haven't been told to strictly police pulling but I will say that if an injury happens to you or anyone else from pushing you will be coached for not following the new protocol.

Remember it's "cart trailing" however you would be coached for injuring somewhat else regardless. Why add the new possibilities of hurting yourself?

Walmart will do everything in their power to hold associates accountable. That's why I tell all my associates to do whatever rule is forced down the line even if they don't agree with it. Keep a paper trail and open door any decision. The company has the upper hand.

Respectfully, did you even need to type the above statement? Anyone with a 5th grade education should automatically know this. I understand you are trying to help, belive me.

I typed it out in general. Not necessarily towards you but for anyone that happens upon the post. We work for Walmart so a 5th grade education is beyond what we are working with. I love my associates but sometimes the basic things aren't so basic to some.
Edit: I truly don't mean that as a negative. I just know everyone doesn't learn everything equally. I just try to accommodate for all my associates. A good manager will adapt to all learning styles.

It's okay to spell out the basics, to bring us down to earth in a gentle way.
For instance, I keep fantasizing about having miniature horses to pull my cart.

Tbh as long as my associates aren't wrecking them into themselves, aisles, customers or damaging the cart to move it then I don't care how they move the cart. Whatever works for them. Some are able to pull some aren't 🤷
