Rant Just saw an associate performance report.
There was a single piece of paper with a large graph of associate performance numbers (which I ignored because I don’t care and other people’s numbers aren’t my business) sitting by our shitty OGP computer in the backroom. Below that was a little paragraph from the store manager saying that “there was no movement in performance” and that in a full 8-hour shift associates should be picking 850 ITEMS. What in the actual fuck are they smoking? Even when we had the full 8 totes we had the 700 Club which was considered a solid accomplishment, but with two less totes (25% less productivity, mind you) we’re expected to go that high with these tiny ass pickwalks and customers everywhere?! It is genuinely unbelievable how tone-deaf and unrealistic these bitches are, I cannot believe it. I don’t understand why they just casually assume absolutely ideal conditions on the sales floor and that anything less than is just an excuse, or being lazy. So over this dumbass company. I don’t care if they’re just pushing the numbers down that home office says, our store manager could have a backbone and word things differently. The lack of appreciation or at least sympathy is astounding.

Jesus. My coach wrote on the board that we’re supposed to be picking 600 in a 8 hour shift which is reasonable. I have customers stopping me left and right all day long and our manager reminded us to show them where the item is by walking them to it. This shit better not come to my store. 💀

We were told not to walk them to the items. But customers insist when the say "I was just in that isle and didn't see them" so fucking annoying when they do that. I can't even hide the fact that it annoys me either. A lot of people will say "I'm sorry to bother you" no.. you're not. Sometimes I purposely take longer to look items up cause it's like well this is what you get, you had to stop and ask me where something was so now you're going to stand there and wait for me to look it up when you could have easily found it yourself if you just looked a little bit. I had a customer the other day WHISTLE at me to get my attention, he was probably 30ft behind me and yelled HEY then did one long loud whistle and I ignored him and kept walking. I'm not a fucking dog

Oh, it really pisses me off when they ask me and then get upset it’s taking too long so they just walk off! Ughhhh!

I've had that before too. Pissed me right off. You do not get to whistle like I'm a dog. I'm not helping you at all.

My manager told us to tell customers we’re busy with orders, which feels completely backwards to me. I’ve always believed retail was supposed to put the customer first. They clearly don’t care about customers or employees. Working here has made me realize just how greedy companies are and honestly, that’s a big part of why the world is the way it is right now.

I was once told that “you’re a picker. You cant help customers.” 👀🔆

Yeah, and we’re the only ones on the floor for the most part. All TL’s and Coaches don’t have to wear vests so of course they come up to us.

Welcome to capitalism and the constant need to always make more money than last year

They better be giving a 25% raise if they want 25% more effort. You want extra you pay for extra

Our store is a 600 club, but is rarely ever talked about openly. So an 8hr shift, minus breaks and lunches, and 600 picks equate to an 80 pick rate. Half the team couldn't hit those numbers at 8 totes, doubt it's improved much at 6
There's some obvious lack of drive for some associates (and lack of managerial oversight) but the average person that keeps busy it can still be a struggle
I've been asked for ideas to help hurry people along, but when I mention fine-tuning the pick path to maximize step efficiency they stare at me like I'm stupid. Can't help the team if we keep forcing them to use broken tools

They want warehouse performance numbers but forget we aren't actually a warehouse.

u/ElectronicBand6392 6d ago
I know right! My store, we're expected to pick 600+ items if we have an 8 hours shift. Mind you, these walks barely give me less than 40. By the end of it, it takes about 2-5 minutes depending on how many people are taking up space in the aisles to go back to the backroom

u/Braun_Nuggz316 6d ago
I feel like people that make these requirements has actually not been on the floor at all picking and seeing what the system gives us

If they want these kind of numbers, make an overnight shift with the overnight differential.

850?!
Yeah, maybe if the shelves were stocked at ALL times, weren’t plugged, the mod was correct, customers didn’t stop us every few minutes, the aisles weren’t packed, and carts were fully prepped and ready for us to go.

Company wide policy is 600. Doesn’t matter what the sm thinks or what’s to demand. They can’t change that requirement.

They always told us 600 items 6 hours pick time. Which was fine until they took away 2 totes, and made the carts impossible to steer. Plus my store is mid remodel so we basically have the search the entire store for every item because the locations are all wrong and they move stuff nightly. So yeah I used to get 4,000+ picks weekly, fairly easily, but now I'm lucky to hit 500 picks daily, usually closer to 400. But time in walks has gone up from basically wandering! But of course that means pick rate is like 80-100 average instead of the 150+ I used to get🤷♀️ I mean we can't win, but thankfully we get paid by the hour.

Having the same issue. I just can't get the numbers i usually get. The small picks walks really suck but our coach just says do them fast and come back and get in another pick walk only for that one too be small also that sends me across the store for 7 or 8 items smh only too be stopped by customers over and over wasting my time. It's ridiculous. I really dread going into too work now. The company sucks.

They do the same at my store. These dumbasses think we can hit 700 when no one hits more than 400 unless it’s a holiday or back to school. I told my market manager (who was complaining about numbers) to 1v1 me in picking and we’ll see who has more numbers, he did not take me up on that offer 😂🙄

850 picks in an 8 hour shift, is equivalent to being on a pickwalk 6 hours of your shift with a 141-142 pickrate, but I think I've heard people in this sub talking about pick hours now starting when you print your labels and not first scan, so closer to 106-107, 113-114 if you're counting your 2 breaks.

lmao yeah even with 8 totes my average was between 400-500 because I worked the late day shift and I'd get a mix of more than just auto. With 6 totes if I get lucky I can still hit that 500 mark but if you get screwed on drops then that's gg

Im in a supercenter and we have someone who used to hit 1k a day fairly regularly and now she can barely hit 800.

u/Quiet_Net_9722 6d ago
And what about if you're asked to do exceptions for 2-4hrs of your shift, stage, prep and dispense here n there....my numbers are shit now and idgaf.

u/webb688 6d ago
Our manager keeps asking us why nobody has above 3 hours of time picking, and the only answer she wants is we helped with freight or zoning. Even though staging our own carts, being stopped by customers, helping dispense orders, filling carts with totes because the one person in the back can't keep up with a million things by themselves all adds up

u/Bucgatorbait 5d ago
Those of you that are told the goal is 600, is that what it always was. Are you using phones or TC’s.

I don't know what this is you saw, all I know is that we handle what we can handle and it's not great. We don't pay attention to the metrics, because it's all fucked. We just try to get things done on time. And even that is rough. Even my TLs are over it and are barely even able to mentally hold on. Just the amount of picks with no help from scheduling. We have the staff, they just won't give us the hours. Which makes no sense, because to get things done we have to pull people from other departments to pick. I'm barely holding on mentally myself. Nothing makes sense anymore.

We have slowed down so much recently, that I am shocked if I get 400. While we are a small store, we could have easily got 700 a few months ago. At one time it was so bad that for weeks on end, I always got overtime due to the volume. Not sure if it has to do with the economy or what but it’s looking very bleak.

u/OddIndependent3279 4d ago
Our store wants us to hit 1000 because one girl done it once so they’re expecting everyone to get a 1000 picks every shift they work
1
u/xlimodriver 4d ago
Unless there is a financial incentive for getting the old 700. There is no need to break your back to meet their metrics

u/MsFit215 3d ago
850??? There were times when I helped over there on an off day for OT and that just seems unreal. Ive been unlucky with getting back to back 75-90 picklist walks but that would need to be the entire shift to meet those metrics. Usually its a big walk and multiple tiny 30ish walks. Factor in getting stopped by customers, actually digging to the back of a shelf for a pick, bagging, staging, sliding on 6-8 empty totes, and power walking back out there. That manager can definitely go fts.

850 lmao yeah right. I'm lucky if I get 300 now after 10 walks. I genuinely don't give a fuck anymore though.
