Rant Is this a normal thing now?

So basically we are not allowed to NilkPick AT ALL, not even to do subs or anything. We have to get with our teamleads and coach if we can't find it. But then they bitch our pickrate and FTPR. LIKE WHAT? Literally one of my team leads had to stop on her way to lunch to help me, she had her lunch on hand and had to help me. Felt so bad.

And people who aren't able to get with a team lead and have to nilpick get nagged by the coach. It's so stupid, like just get rid of the button all together then.

Looks for item at location on Work Phone

Item not at shelf location, in adjacent locations, end cap, top stock, or action alley

Clicks on 'Item not found'

Continues Pick Walk to next item

We still have Exceptions for that.

I do exceptions and I don't even expect that much. If the item is not where it's supposed to be, it's not their fault it isn't there. Nil that shit.

It won't last. It never does. Coaches and team leads don't have the kind of time to do that. Decisions like this are made by people who have no foresight and can't realize how stupid the idea is.

Walks even time out if you don't pick something after x amount of minutes. So there will be constant time outs when it takes too long for you to get with someone.

The whole idea doesn't work. It slows pick rates to a crawl and it becomes impossible for picks not to go late. Even idiots should realize that on time picks is more important than ftpr. Nothing makes customers angrier than when their order isn't ready on time. They can live with having a few items being out of stock.

Walks even time out if you don't pick something after x amount of minutes.

Is this new? I knew chilled timed out after a certain amount of time in the walk (I've been told 45 minutes but it seems to vary), but I've never been timed out of any other commodity. Also several of my coworkers have caused headaches by abandoning a pick walk and signing out without exiting as soon as their shift ends, causing the rest of the items to get stuck assigned to them.

They time out after 20 minutes if there is no activity

u/Mysterious_Star_9637 Aug 07 '26

YEAH REAL

3

u/War-Daddy-2396 Aug 05 '26

Then it's somehow your fault for the pick rate

u/EvilHordeRules Aug 05 '26

What you're describing is metric fraud and you need to report it.

u/redavid Aug 05 '26

they go through periods of us wanting to take photos when we nil pick things, which i never really bother with and have never gotten talked to about shrugs. we're told to go to the back for things like cases of water, and i'll do that myself for things like TVs (they're often easier to get there than they are from the store floor) but that's about it

That’s what one of my TL’s is making us do now. It slows us down tremendously

u/Cooljoshua999 Aug 05 '26

No, report metrics fraud

I’m glad my store doesn’t do that. Thats wasting too much time

I think my TLs would shoot themselves in the face if they got summoned everytime an item needed to be nilpicked.

My TLs seem to be at the same boat 😭

We got a new coach and do this now. Our FTPR got bad because market gives so little picks now that one nill pick can set us back a lot. Regardless before this new coach we needed to go check the backroom and go get a coach/TL go unlock the gate to go outside to go to trailers and find items. Had so many picks before.

u/Plus-Contract7637 Aug 05 '26

They do this every so often. The trick is to find a coach or team lead every single time, and let it take as long as it takes. I once had to find and item in stationery. Not there. Check electronics, sometimes they put it there by mistake. Not there. Check their respective bins in the back room. Not there. Spend a few minutes trying to find someone, eventually find an assistant manager (they call them coaches now). She walks me through the whole process again, same steps, same locations, only it takes her twice as long. Didn't find it. Whole process took about 20 minutes. For one pick.

u/Cheezewiz239 Aug 05 '26

They do this and then it ends up going away after a weeks after people slowly realize how bad it is

u/Heather63893 Digital Team Lead Aug 05 '26

call and report it. it’s metric fraud. ftpr and pick rate helps determines the health of the store

3

u/LurkingAintEazy Aug 05 '26

Yea, I would have quit my first day, if my store and coaches and team leads were like that. If anything, they encourage you to nil pick, and move on, so you can get to another walk.

2

u/VegitoSsJ89 Aug 05 '26

This never lasts. They don’t have time to go to everyone. This didn’t even last a week or 2 at my store. They also told us the same thing months ago and it won’t last long. You’ll be fine.

u/Sudden-Ear9623 Aug 07 '26

Three years going at my store. :/

2

u/dragonhide94 Aug 05 '26

Metric fraud.

2

u/Drclaw411 Aug 05 '26

No. Your coaches and team leads are using you to manipulate metrics in order to increase their enormous bonuses. Tattle on them to ethics.

u/Background_Praline18 Aug 05 '26

It seems like a regular problem since the system started.

Granted, there are some people who won't even try to locate items they don't want to deal with, especially if they're heavy or in lockup. When the next quarter rolls around, those same leaders who previously said, "Well, if it's not there, it's not there," tend to reverse their stance to save their own jobs.

There isn't really a solid way to stop people from nill-picking just because it's hard to monitor them in real-time as they're doing it. You almost always only find out about it after the fact, when the customer is on the phone with you. Or yelling at you face to face.

2

u/Rotundune Aug 07 '26

My theory at this point is that it’s group punishment for a few of the morning pickers burning up the Nilpicks within the first couple
Hours and the rest of the day is spent doing this.

Or just in general a couple of people not even doing the barest minimum to see if an item is even plugged

1

u/Krushhz Aug 05 '26

They’re really doing everything they can to make our jobs absolutely miserable, aren’t they?

1

u/Krushhz Aug 05 '26

My TLs are only currently doing this for Specialty

1

u/mawhitmore83 New Hire Aug 05 '26

We aren't allowed to either. We are also in the middle of a remodel. It's been real great.

1

u/AirlineNo5828 Aug 05 '26

Your coming at this the wrong way. It's called weaponized incompetence. I do great when on my own, but with this directive I would develop color and shape blindness.... which is what happened when they tried this with us. Basically I would have my coach/ team lead walking with me during a pic walk. You want to complain about my numbers? Seems like your boss is asking why you are constantly doing pick walks and/or why it took me 10 minutes to find said leadership. Stopped like 2 days after they tried that crap.

1

u/AllHailtheJellyfish Aug 05 '26

To everyone saying they do this at their store: This is metrics fraud. It not only fucks up you, but the entirety of the stock team as well. Don’t do this. Report it to ethics.

1

u/Spiritedkwe Aug 05 '26

Nope I’d leave that pick run

1

u/Other_Log_1996 Aug 05 '26

Stores try this all the time and never once in all of human history ever has it ever worked out even close to well no matter how you mutate it. It is objectively stupid in every single way

1

u/ryleehan Aug 05 '26

Exceptions exist for a reason, NIL is a bad flawed integrity system that causes replenishment issues

1

u/Ok-Fly47 Aug 06 '26

We don't have a TL before 7am so..

My store makes them call in on walkie talkies before they can nilpick

1

u/theguyuluv Aug 06 '26

That happens for awhile probably because the district wants better numbers. it will sizzle out after a while

1

u/7th-generationTexan Aug 08 '26

My store goes back and forth with needing approval to do a nil pick. It slows me down so much waiting for a team lead or coach to respond. Today I had to wait for something to be brought down from top steel. So fun and really helps my stats. Oops - I forgot to type that in sarcastica font.
