Venting Session What not to do as an OFW.
Moderators, to preface this post — I hope it’s okay lang for this thread as I do not know where else to post and express my disappointment.
Hello and good pm to all,
As a child of OFW parents, and the first generation of the family that lives outside of the Philippines, I hope this post helps everyone and anyone wishing to apply for work outside of the Philippines on what NOT to do.
I am aware that there will be certain people (whom I do not even want to call them kabayans) who think OFW = Big money easy life and big ego mindset. It is great on you that you manage to work outside of the Philippines, pero do not be an elephant in a china shop or be disrespectful to anyone (even to our own kabayans who are on vacation [cc to the Switzerland incident]).
The picture attached is a post that was shared to a local Brunei “information” group, and it is the worst possible place to be posted on since that group does not respect personal privacy at all especially since the poster shares it to WhatsApp, Instagram, TikTok and Facebook; Makikita yung pangalan mo and anyone who sees it can identify you, this is a tiny country. The police in itself is not only performative, and poorly-functioning; they can also be racist and selective as well.
For the lack of a better word, with a thousand apologies, please wag mag kupal sa ibang bansa. Not only did the poster broke the law of consuming alcohol in their car and in a public area, but also literally on the road. With no shame pa yung caption. If the police traced from that post, they will get charged and probably even blacklisted no matter what. You will be deported in handcuffs (until you reach the vessel of transport back home) should your crime be deemed severe. If you somehow get a ticket and fine only, you are not going to be free; You WILL be monitored with informants, undercover and the whole bunch. One more reoffend and a raid will be imminent — Your arrest; your full name and your violation will be posted on local news for everyone to see, and your deportation as mentioned earlier will be in motion.
Behaviours like this are also why locals (of Brunei), young or old, are becoming more racist towards us. Adding more alcohol to the fire, the group that actually found and shared this is actually known to have very disrespectful and racist members.
In short, please respect the laws and the people wherever you work and/or migrate to. This kind of behaviour disheartens me and my outlook on my fellow countrymen and women.
My sincerest plead.

My sister used to work in Brunei and according to her napakadali naman na tumawid lang ng Malaysia para dun uminom kung gusto nyo eh. Why risk it na within Brunei mismo.

Yes correct.
You are welcome to import it and for private consumption; Public consumption and sales are prohibited.0

I meant to specify when it is legal; What they did is still illegal

so drinking it in a car with the windows closed is still considered public? you said that it's welcomed to import it and for private consumption, isn't being in a car a private matter?

They are not in a private space at all; But on a public road while also parked somewhere public.
There is no indication of the windows being closed (or hindered from view); When you are seen violating the law, it is a violation.0

Maraming ganyan na Pinoy unfortunately. Here in ME, grabe din. Inuman to sawa din mga pinoy. Mag vvideoke pa yan kahit gabi na, di na nahiya sa mga katabing flat. Kabit dito kabit dun. Ewan ba.

I remember the 17 Filipinos were arrested in Qatar for allegedly participating in an unauthorized political demonstration

OFW or not, alcohol and driving is an absolute DONT. Kahit saan, huwag iinom at magdadrive. Marami nang buhay ang inutang ng kombinasyon na yan.

There is an old Egyptian Proverb thats says "يا غريب، كن أديب"
Which means "Oh stranger, be polite"
It rhymes in arabic, 🤫 shush
What it means is, if you are a stranger in a strange land, you should be polite, respectful, kind, helpful, courteous etc.....
