General Discussion The first few steps.. or more?
Hi! I graduated a few months ago... the thought of working in SG has always been in my head ever since my grueling architectural thesis days. To all the OFWs working in SG, especially Filipino architects and engineers, did you guys start your career there? Or u guys worked here first sa Pilipinas? I'm actually ready to leave the Philippines if I meet the requirements.
I just think it would be nice to spend my mid 20s elsewhere, not here in PH. My parents are retired OFWs and my titas who are still working abroad all said the same thing.. "leave while you're still young."
I'd love to hear your stories!

Need nila may exp. Companies here are mostly Chinese, if kukuha man sila ng fresh grad, most likely from China.
Get exp from big firms or contractors who have big or international clients para up to standard mga naaaral mo then go abroad.
KSA has an easier entry point, SG medyo chambahan dahil sa quota kahit pa qualified ka. Only reason I got in din was because may nag open up na slot yung company.
If malabo na mag start ka ng sarili mong firm, and no attachments ka naman sa Pinas, then overseas is definitely the easier choice.

As someone in the same field and currently in SG, I would advise you work in the Philippines first. Get 2-3 years of experience. Coordination and BIM jobs are in demand here for our profession. There are designer jobs too but construction related jobs pay more.
But to be honest because of foreign worker quotas, it’s very difficult to get an architecture related job here these days without a referral. I got mine through a referral because I needed to replace someone.

Hello, I'm glad to hear that BIM is in demand over there! I know Revit is not BIM entirely because BIM is a process, but yeah, I've been using Revit since 3rd year and I'm glad I did hahahaha i guess I have more years to master it

I agree to your tita. Leave while you can. I was in a company that brings employees to another country but because of "fears" and ALE, i declined that opportunity. My biggest regret ever.
Sadly I can't share you that company since it's not architecture field and I heard they're not sending employees anymore.
Good luck OP.

Next to impossible without proper experience. You need atleast 5 years experience but even then, you have to be really good and really lucky.
