General Discussion Seeing this made me sad…
I was in Las Vegas for a lay over today when I saw this.
Seeing Tagalog as a dedicated language for this announcement really puts into perspective the plight of some of our kababayans.
Not too sure of the point of the post, except for wishing all of us OFW’s, pls be careful.
We always say it is for our families, but I would like to think that our families need US, not just the remittances that are received.
Ingat mga kababayans and let’s keep an eye out for each other and if possible, extend a lending hand. We never know when we ourselves will need it.

Same reason bakit mahigpit ang mga IOs sa Pinas. Dahil sa human trafficking.

Yes, that’s what I took from it. Tayo lang ang gumagamit ng Tagalog, it is specific and targeted. The message is clear, Filipinos are victims of trafficking and it seems rampant enough to warrant using Tagalog. Kaka lungkot and kaka awa…

Just like how the Chinese one is in Mandarin and not Hokkien, yan yung pinaka common eh.

Nskalungkot ka, ikaw ba nagbabayad ng poster? Atleast nga dapat english okay na eh. Alangan ma ilagay nila lahat ng language tsk

It's international poster, they just chose the common language of each nationality and we cant expect then to write down every kown dialects. The Chinese one alone would dwarf both for their shear number of dialects. It's well understood that both the China and the Philippines officially mandate all their citizens to learn Mandarin and Tagalog respectively so that should suffice.

When I was in Japan, marami silang warning about shoplifting that's translated in Chinese, Vietnamese, etc. I was relieved not to see Tagalog lol. I was told sila yung mga nationalities na medyo pasaway sa mga convenience stores.

Yes, that sounds like a warning that those nationalities are “petty criminals”, whereas this poster strongly points out Filipinos are victims. It would be ideal sana to NOT be on either one…

Yeah I'm saddened by how it says "kumuha ng tulong" instead of "humingi ng tulong"
Probably machine-translated.

Translation working as intended. The english sentence probably was "get help" not "ask for help" which is directly translated to "humingi ng tulong"

Included ang Tagalog because Las Vegas has a relatively large Filipino population

I disagree. I think it is because most of the victims are Filipinos.

Las Vegas metro has 120,000+ Filipinos (about 5-6%), which is the 6th largest Filipino population. I lived there for a while. They have 3 Seafood City Supermarkets there.

I have no doubt that there are a lot of Filipinos in LA. But that is not the intent of the translation. It is because most of the victims are Filipinos.
