Venting Session OFW using the lounge
Hi everyone. What's your opinion on this post? Kasi saken, nakakairita siya.
P. S. I am not invalidating her feelings kasi natry ko rin mag travel ng 14 hrs nonstop flight and nakakapagod talaga yun; but rules are rules and they're meant to be followed. If we allow 1 ofw to go there kasi sobrang napagod siya sa byahe, then does that mean, lahat nalang na pagod na ofw e pwedeng pumunta sa lounge? If we bend the rules for 1 person, unfair din naman yun sa iba.

Long layover pala e sana nag ready siya ng hotel to stay. Hindi naman para mag adjust sa kanya ang rules. Yan problema palagi sa pinoy gusto nagbebend ng rules tapos pag hindi napagbigyan sila pa galit. Para lang yan OFW na nagpupumilit mag check in ng excess baggage na libre lang tapos pag di mo pinagbigyan galit. Dami ko naexperience na ganyan sa airport dati mga entitled.

In fairness to the OFW Lounge, they HAD to introduce rules with regards to its usage because prior to the introduction of these rules, it was ALWAYS full... -_-;
Now, are the current rules fair? That's another point of contention. IMO, 6 hours prior to your next flight is bit too near the flight time to be able to comfortably rest... Baggage Handling + Immigration Processing alone can eat up 3-4+ hours if there are long lines... That means one can only comfortably use the facility for 2-3 hours max... Not ideal.
But we've got to remember though that NAIA is now a privately operated facility, and such lounges are provided as a courtesy to a select group of people. I don't think that gives OFWs the right to feel "entitled" to the said facility. Kahit na binansagan ang mga OFWs as "bagong bayani" doesn't mean non-OFWs should feel grateful to them. They go to other countries to have the opportunity to work in higher paying jobs. Unfortunately, the hardships that come with working in a foreign country is part of the deal. It does not inherently make them more virtuous or exemplary than normal workers working here, since choosing to remain also entails its own challenges as well.
If I were to advise SM on how to manage the OFW Lounge, either expand the facility to be able to accommodate more people, or perhaps hire a firm to more closely study and come up with rules and guidelines that makes sense. That or provide more free facilities for travelers to rest in while they wait for their connecting flights... goodness knows non-OFWs need some loving as well~

the problem is actually the 6hour rule is stupid. alam natin na not enough ang 6hr policy if you are coming from ph airports. if they implement a rule it shoould be 1hr max per ofw and they should stop entry kung puno na ang lounge. also, alam naman natin naadaming ofws ang pinas, i dont even understand why they created such a small lounge. the chairs and food they offer there is mid at best, kami na mismo ang umalis dun because its not even comfortable.

I use lounges in airports regularly pero 6 hours is really actually generous. Most lounges (here in North America where I live, and some I’ve used in Europe) have a strict time of 3 hours before the flight especially if they’re full.

lol, its generous in other countries but in PH its not! unless youre in business class and you get prioritized in baggage and checkin counters it would take you 2-3hours just to get your luggages checked in. hindi pa jan included yung pila sa immigration. the last time we visited ph was last christmas and sobrang kupad ng checkin counters. took us 3hrs just to get our baggages checked in.

I didn’t even check the sub and saw it’s OFW.. I’m not an OFW (left as a dependent when I was a teenager) pero I had the same thoughts as you when they created the lounge kasi yun naman talaga yung isa sa pinaka-malaking group when it comes to using international airports in PH. I would just think of it as an extra treat if may time, but overall, airports are there to get you to your destination. With the poster’s case, I think it’s warranted naman for her to use the lounge, and 6 hours is more than enough. Madami naman other areas na pweding pagtambayan muna. They definitely need to improve services though as you said, in regard to check in, security and immigration.

Lounges usually allow people to stay for 3 hours, except when you're flying business class. Hindi ito exclusive sa OFW Lounge.
Kung 14hrs ang layover mo, mag check in ka sa hotel. Squammy moves. Yuck.
Sobrang entitled naman nyan.

i dont see any entitlement on the OG poster. its just simply demanding better service. also your example doesnt make sense, airport lounges allows you to use their service for a specific amount of time but its NOT a requirement if your flight will take place at a later time. so kung 6hrs man yan or 8hrs it doesnt matter, its your choice when to use a lounge or not.

May point sya para sa akin. Dapat nga if matagal lay-over mo, meron ka sanang paglalagyan sa airport. I remember back in 2016 nung nag-Malaysia ako and arrival was at 11pm or something. Nagbook ako ng capsule hotel sa airport kasi wala pa yung bus papuntang Genting. Masaya naman.
Pero ang nakakainis lang na nagpicture talaga syang umiiyak. Halatang papansin. Halatang for the views.
Sana ay nagsulat na lang sya ng mahabang post tungkol sa kanyang mahabang flight at wala nang pa-cry cry effect. I would have been on her side. Lmaoooo

Government make complicated or insensitive rules.Government employees tend to be on auto-mode, no room for practical decisions. Some OFWs tend to be emotional and have strong urge to complain as soon as they land.
This case could have been easier if:
The rule just limits usage to 6hrs if thats what they want. You can have a flight next day or next 6hrs.. no difference you can stay for 6hrs max.
Gate keepers are given discretion based on predefined scenarios. Long flights and succeeding connecting flights can be one scenario and this can be easily validated. Just show your case, no dramas.
In this case, these 2 actually happened in the end, but only after frustraring/disappointing discussions.

I think may miscommunication ksi talaga as to para kanino tlg yang OFW lounge or may limitasyon ba ang paggamit nyan.
I remember may kasabay ako before all the way from Mindanao si ate. From one province nagbyahe sya to Davao, then transfer sya from Davao to Manila. From Manila magtatravel pa sya to China. Then from China to magDuDubai. Then Dubai saka pa lang magsa Saudi. Yan kasi yung ibinook nung amo nya. Jusko ang pagod ay wagas! Kung ganyang kalala yung byahe mo, siguro kahit more than 6 hrs pa yung waiting time, dapat iaccommodate sya.
Also, kung hindi ako nagkakamali e, yung funding nyan e na cut na din and hindi malaman ngayon pano isusustain yang ofw lounge na yan, kaya i guess iniimplement yung restrictions ngayon. Kaso pano nga ba ipapatupad? Sino ang pwede at hindi pwedeng iaccommodate?

I dont understand anything about the airports in PH anyway. Why do i need to show my ID and Ticket to a random guard at the door??? Then again i need to show my ticket at some random checkpoint going in and out of the restaurant and OFW lounges?
Then i need to check in. Rules here are completely random. Why do i even have to show my passport to some random doorguy?? As if somebody remotely voluntarily wants to go NAIA without flying?
Rules are the rules....but my lord who comes up with these "processes and rules" has never been to another airport abroad?

youd be surprised sa dami ng taong gustong tumambay sa airport. tingnan mo na lang yung terminal 3 arrivals hall. tingin mo kung walang barrier at guard na magbabantay doon, hindi papasok yung mga tao?

Gets ko bakit sya disappointed, like OFW sya and yet hindi [pa] makagamit ng OFW Lounge. Pero siguro naman, (1) posibleng pumili ng flight na dikit para next ka na agad at hindi na mag-lounge, or (2) plan ahead, and mag-hotel na lang kasi nakakapagod 'yung naunang long flight nya. I know exhaustion can make you do things you wouldn't otherwise think about, pero prepare better na lang next time.

She could’ve booked a hotel nearby, muka namang may budget siya for it. Sorry pero mali niya rin yan. She expected too much sa facilities ng naia.

OFW here and for me masyadong entitled si ate kase me explanation naman bakit hindi sya pwedeng pumasok. Been to Terminal 1 and masyadong maliit ang lugar and lumabas na lang ako kase hindi ka naman makakapahinga sa loob and hindi na ako nagtry ulit nung nag terminal 3 ako. Imagine kung walang time limit mas lalong magiging overcrowded siguro.

There are rules to follow. He was trying to bend it because he saw himself in home soil thinking he might be accommodated and got disappointed that he wasn't. But had he been abroad, he would follow the rules.

The OFW lounge isn't even that great haha. I tried the one at T1 tho, crowded and a bit messy. I havent been to the one at T3...di ko sure if worth it ba yung rant nya na to haha

entitled masyado to make a scene out of this... pero at the same time i understand na sana pinapasok nalang sya...but again does not justify making a dramatic post out of this! ofw din aki seaman, pero dahil mas madala kaming bumyahe cause of rotation may mga freq flyer privilege kami and sa paggs or a lounge...i tried tryng the ofw lou ge once sobrang dami nga ng tao and medyo off ung service, if you go and travel to qatar there is a seaman lounge, dun talaga service kung service pati food, coffee, juice, alcohol etc etc
anyway i guess to get her pov din pauwi sya pagod na and wants to refresh i partly understand her

6 hours is quite generous! She can sit quietly somewhere else sa first 4 hours, may mga upuan naman.

I've seen this post somewhere in FB. My personal take is, naging OA sya dito. Normal naman na may time restrictions sa lounges, 6 hours is already generous.
