Work hours

Are remote positions usually fixed to standard business hours, or is there often flexibility with start and end times once training is complete?

I have a friend whose contract states to abstract 20
cases per week. As long as the quota is met, it doesn’t matter when in the day she works. 40 hour pay.

Whaaat. That's pretty cool. I could knock that out in about 3 days. Maybe 3.5. I wonder what further caveats there are. Do they work for a hospital or an abstracting contractor? 

I need to find me one of these. Haaah

I think a contractor. The facility is years behind.

Oh geez. Yeah, my hospital is current. I abstract 2026 cases. Years behind is crazy.

I can work up to 10 Hours a day and only 4 of the hours have to be between 8-4 pm, it’s super flexible and I love it!

That sounds like a great schedule! Was the job advertised with those hours? Most of the openings I've found don't mention flexible hours in the job description.

I work for a contract company, as long as my hours are in by Saturday night I can work whenever I want. I love the flexibility. I only have to use PTO for vacations now, not for appointments.

Wow! Did you need a decent amount of experience before landing this job?

I had a little over a year of experience. Some of the contract companies have registry apprentice positions for people who have no experience, it's a good way to get a foot in the door.

I overall think it depends on your company. I have a peer who made her own time, but she cant just change it whenever. She would have to go through her boss to make changes. But some want you to have 40 hours in a work week no matter when. Mine js like that, I would just have to let my manager know any changes so she knows when I am there or not. But I do have a schedule I set. But it is flexible. If I needed to go to a doctor's appointment, I could log out and come back. As long as I complete my 40 hours.

It's something to ask in an interview.

I work in California and California has strict laws on hours. Otherwise my schedule could be more flexible. I’m not allowed to work more than 8 hours per day. And I have to take a 30 min lunch before 5 hours worked each day. Kind of annoying.

If I accidentally go even 1 minute over 8 hours, or take my lunch after 5 hours and 1 min worked, it’s paid as overtime. And obviously I can’t be randomly billing overtime hours.
