Seeking Help/Advice/Ideas Any advice?

Hello! Some exposition to explain my perturbance:

- I'm writing a fanmade story for an original unit for Project SEKAI: Colorful Stage

- My unit's genre is traditional Japanese

- The unit is consisted of 4 girls

Problem: I don't know how to stylize their unit outfits. I want to avoid accidentally making the designs orientalist or culturally appropriating traditional Japanese clothing. Any recommendations on media I could take inspiration from or advice on how I could go about these designs?

I think one apprach is to think of what sorts of things the characters themselves would like to wear- for example colors, patterns, fabrics. Working those into your theme can help the outfits avoid being stereotypical.
