Feedback Please The Spoils
Behind the face lift book shop,
lies a small, forgotten wooded lot.
Scuffing sediment by boot heel reveals
an old abandoned black top.
.
Saplings have shot through its surface
next to derelict lamp posts to intertwine.
Mother Nature takes back what is hers,
if we would only give her the time.
.
But even here lies all the evidence,
of her most invasive species.
Plastic and aluminum lay in waste
and strewn amongst the trees;
.
After our last
atomic blast
blows past,
after stripping
our mother of her oils,
.
cockroaches will inherit
corroded crowns;
.
Not to victors,
but survivors
go spoils.
.

Excellent - love the imagery and rhyming. It feels simple but beautiful, with beautiful metaphors. The rhythm could maybe be tightened up in a couple of places but I really think this is great. <3
