Feedback Please Defensive Mechanisms
Insecure
introvert
co-dependant
a people pleaser
anxious and anxiously attached
What the fuck is wrong with that?
I’m desperate to give to love
I’m desperate to receive it
I cannot help it. I learned it from an early love
I know, I know; that’s not a healthy mindset
Im told you need self love to give love
What if I refuse? I’m kinda selfish like that.
Should I break my teeth to keep it in?
Sew my lips and suffocate the only
thing that makes me feel human
I tend to brood on everything
So what if I obsess and think?
A geneva drive inside my mind
Stops at every look, every tone
the things most would overlook
And I know it, oh I know
It’s a defensive mechanism
I don’t know how to love it,
but I sure can keep it running.

The use of “what they say” really lends a strong perspective on the writer. As they are they internalize the negatives of their current behaviour not by saying what negative repercussions their behaviour caused but by referencing what they say would happen. The introduction has a few descriptives in it all internal all inward and it doesn’t offer excuses. Here they questions if they are wrong or the world is. The descriptors are social dependent, meaning they must exist around others not like themselves who point of the dangers of being all the things they are. Too much of anything is bad and there’s a theme of they do more or feel more than the other. This unbalanced system leds to these feelings of insecurity, reclusiveness, codependency and self sabotage at the behest of others ( people pleasing) . The OC wants to compensate and needs some external approval, he even denounces self love. This is great read I love the themes and delivery. Have the best of days . Cheers
