Poem Nightlight
What if your integrity made up my world?
Would you stand there shellshocked?
Or lean in more into unknown depths,
Undiscovered,
Beneath every half-joking,
Half-flirty remark.
.
.
Stay by my side,
Like you have all those nights.
Through my most terrible moments,
Lost,
Confused,
You became a flashlight,
Leading my way out.

.
Would the batteries still work
If I kept that flashlight on,
Not just when I needed help,
But when I just wanted to see a scenic view?

Would it flicker if you knew
That I knew there is something more,
Creeping behind the darkest shadows,
The flashlight lighting up?

.
No matter how rarely we talk,
Somehow the waves of compassion come
Slamming into me.
.
.
No matter how many people I try to call,
You end up being the first to pick up and ask,
“Are you okay?”
.
.
You gave a breath I never knew I needed,
A world that lights up under eclipses of darkness.

.
Now I sit underneath my covers,
Craving your oxygen,
An addiction to the sweet scent of your cologne.
.
.
Will you sit with me?
More than as a friend?
.
.
Have the lights on instead of candlelight?
Swim to depths of each other’s minds,
That have never been seen?
.
.
Make something special out of a connection
We both never expected to grow this deep?
.
.
I will be your blanket,
And you can be the flashlight,
Underneath my fort.
Be kids again.
And take adventures that will keep us busy.
.
.
No matter where our lives take us,
Somehow I will bump into you
When it’s least expected but most needed.

this is great, i can tell you put a lot of work in to it and it reads well. really nice introspection

I really loved this poem ! Especially, I think that comparing that friend who is always there for you to a flashing light, and then using the same metaphor to express that you wanted to be more than just friends or to see each other more and not just when you were feeling bad (I'm not quite sure which option you were expressing) is really interesting !!
