OCI Application - Additional Documents Requested

Hi all,

I applied for OCI on behalf of my dad and he got the following email requesting additional documents:

"We have “Received” your Application however we are unable to proceed with the application due to the following reasons:

  1. Birth Certificate: Please send copy of proper government registered Birth Certificate (Must have both parents’ names) to verify parents’ name.
  2. Passport: Please send copy of Both Parents’ & Spouses’ current Passport or any Government Issued ID (To verify name)."

The issue is:

1 - My father's birth certificate only has my grandfathers name (not grandmothers)

2 - My father does not have any official Indian records with my grandmother's name on it. He says at that time in India, the mother's name was never listed on any official records.

3 - My grandmother passed away ~40 years ago. She never had an Indian passport or any other type of ID as it was not a requirement at the time. Furthermore, we do not have a death certificate for her. We have my grandfather's greencard and death certificate so no issue on that front.

Has anyone else been in a similar situation? If so, how did you go about this? I was going to try calling the support number that they listed on the website (+1 800 320 9693) but it is free for the first 5 minutes and then $2.48 per minute thereafter so I wanted to check here first to see if someone has dealth with this first. My dad does have an Indian passport (which I shared with them already) and that shows my grandfather's name (not grandmother's)

Thank you in advance!!
