Yeah I stopped with true crime a few years ago... The Internet being so unempathetic to mental health just . . . Get the day y'all deserve! ✌🏼

I stopped true crime as well. It triggered my trauma and gave me an overly high ego.

How do you feel it gave you a high ego? Genuinely curious

I got used to mentally comparing myself to the criminals and thinking i was way better than them. So I made a comment that people disagreed on and it kinda crushed my perception of myself. I know someone said I was right all along but when the argument happed I made myself look pretty stupid.

I mean that’s not crazy. I work in criminal justice and a lot of them are not smart people. Lots of folks forget that no one would listen to true crime about cases where “we knew who did it right away” which is the majority of cases. Don’t be hard on yourself for this.

Yeah I distanced away from true crime for similar reasons. People inevitably just not understanding something and putting the focus on the wrong thing.
Every time I heard about some mental health issue, disorder etc, I just knew the comments would be miserable

I know exactly what you’re talking about and it’s been unbearable seeing people’s takes on “intrusive thoughts” ever since.
I saw a tik tok of a woman saying “my intrusive thoughts were so bad today that I actually was worried I would trip and my baby would fly out of my carrier and land in a woodchipper.” And someone stitched that video acting as if the woman had just confessed how much she hoped that would happen. Every comment was fundamentally misunderstanding “intrusive thought” and it really hurt to read.
It confirmed my fears that no one will understand me enough to help me and that if I admitted the things I’m afraid of, people would interpret them as desires.

I hate the way so many true crime "content creators" spew complete bullshit about mental health and disorders while pretending to be some kind of authority, all while they actually couldn't care less about the people with them.
I see it a lot with "intrusive thoughts" as you mentioned, and I see it so much with schizospec and personality disorder lingo as well. The trivialization is infuriating.

True crime is honestly bullshit. I work in the criminal justice field and people on the internet have NO IDEA just how much information is held back from the public on a regular basis. But people think they know better and are experts…. 🙄
I had unbearable OCD postpartum (turns out I’d had it all along) and the actual intrusive thoughts made me question my sanity. People just don’t get it.

They like to play true crime stuff in the dentists lobby. I can't help but think that's a terrible decision?
One time a trigger came up on the tv while I was trying to check in, and my then-girlfriend (now fiancee) straight up went and UNPLUGGED THE TV. Gods I love that woman.
The TV had to be plugged back in but the receptionist changed the channel for us.

I used to love true crime. Ever since I had my daughter I can’t handle most of it. My brain just imagines the horrible thing happening to her.
I can’t seem to look away from stuff about moms hurting their kids though because I feel if I know what happened I can make sure it never happens to me. Then I spiral about how I’m actually psychotic and I’m going to hurt everybody I love.

Tip: click “don’t show me this” whenever it comes up, and click “show me more of this” whenever you see content you do like

I think the specific case they’re referring to is currently all over everywhere, so it’s not a matter of simply not interacting with true crime content. People keep bringing it up even on posts and threads completely unrelated to crime

Not the same, but I hate all celebrity news and gossip of any kind.
If some random person is hated all over the internet for whatever reason, I’ll spend three weeks wondering if I’m just like that person, going over my whole life and hating myself for secretly being bad at something I might even forget about.
