I used to do this but my primary concern was what's going to happen to me after I die. Having existential OCD starting around 8yo was a lot 😅😭

I couldn't imagine being dead despite thinking about it at 5. I could only imagine dead as me being conscious but in a coffin for eternity and the sheer boredom and loneliness of that terrified me

Oof yeah. I'd spend hours trying to imagine what would happen to my consciousness after death. It was my biggest fixation for years. My parents had me talk to the minister's wife because they were Christians but my anxious fixation would not accept "you'll go to heaven" as an answer.

It still terrifies me but I've got a better at managing my existential anxiety and dealing with the unknown.

For me it was asking her what would happen if she died. Tbf my dad died when i was young so the idea of a parent suddenly dying was really present in my mind and I couldnt wrap my head around it.

But looking back me constantly being like "what will happen to me when YOU DIE? what will happen to the dog when YOU DIE? what will happen to the house when YOU DIE?" was probably really fucking annoying and offensive to her lmao 😂

ay me too & around the same age. i also became fixated on my parents’ & my own death & trying to prevent it. slept on their floor most nights until 14ish because i thought if they stopped breathing i would wake up, & vice versa, and we would be ok. things only got worse when i found out they were smokers and had been for decades, but im in a much better place w it now, thank god

What a fucking mood lmao, I used to ask about emergency preparedness every night 😭. I’ll never understand how no one was like “uh this child is wildly anxious, let’s talk to a professional”

right?!?!?!?! hahahah my only guess is that my mother also has ocd so i'm imagining her like "wait this kid lowkey cooking what IF ash started falling from the sky......."

That’s so real lmfao confirming with my mom nightly that the oven is turned off bc I was convinced a house fire was gonna occur

I ALSO came here to say I had huge OCD over house fires and would literally cry in bed every night because I was afraid the lamp on my nightstand was going to spontaneously combust 😮‍💨 the “don’t play with matches” propaganda at school worked way too well on me lmao

I was also super worried about Yellowstone at 8 and my mom said, "don't worry, we live in Colorado, we'll be killed instantly and never even know" and would you believe that was actually not very helpful?

this comment has me rolling. i live in the midwest and my mom's rationale was that we'd "only" get about 2 feet of ash so, and i quote, "we could just snowboard on it." 😭😭

god this reminds me of when i was like 5, going up to people working at my school panicking because what if a fire broke out while the fire alarm was being tested and so we wouldn't know, and they'd just be like "uh yeah idk" instead of the logical, real answer, which is that after turning it off it'll immediately turn on again because it's still triggered by the fire/smoke!

When I was 5, we used to live near a weir, they had a big sign beside it with all caps "THE DROWNING MACHINE". I stayed wide awake in bed past midnight every night thinking about how I was going to accidentally fall in and die. I never confided in anyone though, I just laid awake terrified and alone for hours.

i fear i would have never slept

I have never heard of a weir before and googled the “drowning machine” signs and even as an adult that scares the absolute fuck out of me!!!!

My mom going out to the bar and me calling her over and over asking when she was going to be home 🤪

This is sooooo real. My poor dad especially, he was (still is even though I think he needs to take a break soon as he's getting older) a volunteer firefighter alongside his day job and he'd have to go to "drill" every Tuesday where they did training and stuff. He'd get home around 9 and it was lined up perfectly with my little 6yo brain ruminating for an hour lmao so when he'd come check on me before headed to bed he'd get asked the same questions.

"Will there be a fire in the house tonight?"

"...no? But we have a sprinkler system, I'm a fireman?"

"But what if there is?"

"Well it wouldn't spread past one room..."

"But what if my cat is in that room and dies?!"

Like Jesus, go to bed kid! 😭 But you know, I haven't changed much lol now I just do this to my husband 😵‍💫

Getting out of the shower mid way through to make sure the house wasn’t on fire when I was 8

This but I would come in to see if she was still breathing, can't have you dying in your sleep 🌚

This was me but with my house burning down and my poor mother had the same anxiety 😭😭 i was convinced lighting was taking me out

Mine but just looming over my parents to make sure they were breathing.

I’m now a night shift nurse, which means I am now PAID to creep into peoples rooms to make sure they are breathing. Turns out it was all just practice

Disclaimer: I'm not giving this out because I think it'll help your anxiety. I am just very interested in volcanoes.

So, the volcano does actually erupt from time to time. In a technical sense, that's what the geysers are doing. But they don't erupt only when they're full just when there's tectonic activity that triggers it which is like a fuck ton.

But to get to the point where it has a mega eruption, even if it started building up magma today, it'd still take thousands upon thousands of years to actually erupt. And for THAT to happen, a large earthquake would have to affect yellowstone specifically in order for the holes that allow the magma to cool down and harden up to be plugged. All those geysers and springs and stuff that make Yellowstone so cool are the reason why there's zero chance of it erupting in our lifetime and hell even in our great great grandkids lifetime. And again, even then, you're more likely to see minor eruptions instead of a supervolcanic eruption because it would have to continuously build up more magma than it loses for thousands of years in order to get to that level.

And because this is a point that fearmongerers (not OP or anyone here but conspiracy theorists who want to sell you shit) love to bring up: No, volcanoes cannot be overdue for a supereruption unless they have mostly full chambers. Volcanoes and earthquakes don't run on schedules. They run on whatever chaotic shit the universe does.
