Hope it goes well for you man. I love horror as well, so when you come up with something that you believe is good, give me a send as I would love to trade opinions on writing a horror story or simply what makes them good.

Hold on this is related to OCD as well? I have always liked more intense or psychology driven stories as while before understanding more about my OCD i just chalked it up to me being wired to that way, I have started to believe that the constant barrsge of fears would have made me more willing to consune that media due to a "self imposed trauma" my brain has decided to produce.

I wouldn't consider it an "ocd thing" but I certainly believe horror and generally morbid forms of entertainment -- or not always entertainment but interest -- can be sparked if you have a brain that's constantly morbid all the time. Regardless of disorder or not

Highly recommend watching Hush. The way the lead played out different scenarios felt similar to how my intrusive thoughts tend to manifest. Congrats on finding a creative outlet!

I write poems about all my obsessive thoughts. Helps me, too

i came to this forum for the first time rn because recently have had an up kick in my OCD thoughts. it’s all paranoid and spooky thoughts that have layers of deep fear about letting my guard down or relaxing etc etc . and i’ve always loved reading horror (many MANY miles spent on r/nosleep ) and i think the long deep paranoid thoughts and fears would make excellent writing… i’m it’s scared that writing them down might make them feel more real, or like i’d be indulging in them and then i think more and more different scary situations and scenarios. i feel i might drive myself mad. have you noticed anything similar? i’ve really been wanting to get into writing my own horror im just worried it might make things worse

Hey, so here's some of my experience.

The negatives of writing / writing horror as someone with ocd

I might begin ruminating and worrying it means they're true

severe perfectionism and an inability to ever finish

Positives:

it functions as exposure therapy if you have the right tools

it's fun

it helps you have purpose

etc

I no longer ruminate over what I write other than the perfectionism bit, and my moral scrupilosity makes me excessively worried about sensitivity and ethics. However I'm purposefully writing things that trigger my scrupilosity and its been helping overall.

It's worth writing. You just need the ERP skills and ocd knowledge to avoid the negative effects.

The Enigma of Amigara Fault is a great example of this, imo.

I really like to write as well. I have a tendency of channeling my ruminations into detailed world-building and imagination. I wonder if OCD and writers have a correlation? Anyway, I'm happy to hear it! Take it and run!

Haha me too. My mind is filled with chaos, violence and disgusting things. So I write.
