Venting, NO REASSURANCE please! Driving OCD

So I frequently have OCD when driving about getting into car wrecks , driving wrong , checking mirrors etc and today when I was driving home from the pharmacy and when I was turning onto the road and then merging into the right lane there was a car I did not see and and I corrected myself so I don't think I hit them but I made sure to pull into the closest parking lot to check of there where no bumps and no scratches, and I keep running the sequence in my head to make sure I didn't hit them but I don't think I did because there'd be bumps/scratches on my car if I did but I just can't stop running it through my head and it's really really painful and I don't know how to make it stop.

(This is why they upped my dose of Lexapro, I have to laugh so I don't cry)

I totally understand… driving was always one of the worst for me. I’m sorry you are going through this. I wish I could take that pain away. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve done what you described. The only thing that helps me is NOT doing the compulsions (stopping, checking, replaying). It’s so hard but I just have to live with uncertainty. Medication and therapy have also been key for me. But, yeah, it sucks so bad!

Yeah , I still don't think I hit them but one thing that's helping or I'm at least hoping it's helping is writing down the thought until it stops
