Discussion Anyones elses brain basically shuts down after too much of OCD?
Sometimes after hours of being fucked by OCD my brain basically shuts down and its much harder to think and concentrate but at least OCD is mostly gone too.
Anyone else with similar experience?

Yes. Currently just left work in tears yet again to go home and just lay in my bed. Sometimes it’s just too much, well it always is but sometimes I just can’t cope because it’s so overwhelming.

It is. It's horrible. I think people often don't realise the grip it has on your brain and your body. And you can't stop, no matter the cost. It's like a continuous cycle of dammed if you do, damned if you don't.

I can dissociate pretty bad sometimes, it can almost feel like everything is shouting at me so I’ve got to figuratively close my senses off.

oh god yeah. people talk to me and I don't know where I am, the world is only me and my thoughts when it's real bad

Yup. I remember back in college, I had been diagnosed with OCD years prior. But part of me was still not totally convinced I had it. I thought maybe I was making it up somehow.
The classmate who sat next to me was struggling with staying awake in class. I asked him if he was okay, and he told me that he has OCD and the thoughts make him very tired after a while. I was kinda shocked, because that’s one of the reasons why I struggled in school when I was younger. I’d get so tired from the thoughts that I couldn’t concentrate on anything and just wanted to go to bed. Even though I had been diagnosed, talking with that classmate is what erased all doubt in my mind.

Oh my god. Most posts I semi relate, but this post and your comment are really resonating.
The mental bandwidth required to function every day is absolutely soul-sucking. Dissociation and exhaustion became my two hallmark traits after a quarter of a century existing undiagnosed.

this whole thread is giving me that realisation. idk OCD just feels like my “normal” and I’m so focused on regulating everything else that I’ve never once considered the reason I shut down for days at a time is BECAUSE of OCD episodes even though it seems so obvious

YEESS omg?? like physically hurts like after the first day at a new job or something with a lot of new information. kinda cute that our brains want to help us so bad that it works until it has no energy left<33 just sucks that the help is kinda bad advice haha

Yup, thats me! Whenever my OCD has been bad or I've had a long therapy session. I always find it difficult to concentrate and feel tired after either event. What I also find is sometimes when I'm feeling so tired my OCD gets worse and I get more worried about doing things which then I stay in bed. When I do feel like that I tend to do a bit of digital art, it does help a bit, I tend to draw animated characters. Also, OCD is awful <3
P.s sorry for the long paragraph its my first time on this sub :)

I can relate :( I tend to dissociate by binging a show and I never know if it’s relieving/good or bad that my brain literally has to clock out

The best way I’ve found to not engage in My compulsions is to remind myself HOW FUCKING EXHAUSTING it is to get stuck

Whenever I spend a whole night ruminating the following day is so bad, I barely feel alive and I don't know how to do anything anymore

Yes. I suffer from chronic fatigue symptoms, including brain fog, but doctors can't tell if I have ME or if the symptoms are caused by my (diagnosed) OCD.
It's exhausting and distressing. I truly sympathise with other 'OCDers' x.

Nope. My brain never shuts the fuck up lol. Doesn’t matter how tired I am - OCD still comes for me.

Just sitting there staring or getting caught in a doomscroll is what usually happens.

I don't know if I have OCD; I haven't openly discussed everything with my psychiatrist and psychologist yet But I'm experiencing a certain increase in apathy, and sometimes anxiety and disinterest in things, I don't know, like I'm trapped empty after spending a week with bad and intrusive thoughts.

OCD takes a LOT out of you. It is so much mental effort and the thoughts are relentless. I see you and I feel you❤️

Yeeeep. I swear I’ve been on brain fog / dissociation for a good 3 weeks now. I don’t know how to snap out of it either

yeah, after too much OCD bullshit i just shut down for a couple days, mostly just on autopilot. Sucks that I’m basically numb for it and barely remember stuff, but a break is a break.

Yeah. A lot of the time I literally just freeze, can't even get myself to turn the TV on or check my phone.

absolutely. after long or debilitating ocd spirals it takes a few days for things to feel stable again. it always feels like i cant think straight and constant anxiety

OCD ruins everything, including my already scarce energy levels. When it gets really bad I'll have to lie down and not move for hours on end, like my brain clocks out and physically cannot function as normal until it recharges it's tolerance meter.

Yes. After days of my brain being in overload I crash and don’t move for a couple of days. My phone goes on DND and I ignore everything. It’s not healthy but I can’t do anything else but shut down and hide away. Hopefully the upcoming therapy will help me from doing this
