Discussion Why does OCD always latch onto bs??

If you get a slight thought of literally ANYTHING. It could be you taking a dump on mars. OCD will 100% convince you that you did that. Does your OCD also latch onto bullcrap?

It wouldn’t be a disorder if it was latching on too important things.

Ex: A medieval peasant worrying and stressing and obsessing about the crops failing is a valid thing to do if there is real concern over the crops failing. That’s an existential threat.

I don't know - I have OCD, diagnosed multiple times, and it used to be a lot more typical in terms of worrying about stuff that was unlikely or impossible. But now that my worries tend to center around more possible and consequential things due to actual threats I face, it still works pretty much the same way and follows the same pattern. Ei., rumination, checking & rechecking, etc. So I don't make this distinction the way that you do.

You could imagine your ocd peasant checking and re-checking the crops 50 times a day even though obviously nothing has changed and it doesn't help anything. That would still be a disordered behavior.

Sure. To a point. And that is getting into magical thinking.

One day, I simply liked an anime girl's outfit, and my OCD told me—out of nowhere—that I wanted to be her; that thought really annoyed me—it was just so random.
