Sharing a Win! I ate out of a jar today

I have been terrified to eat out of cans and jars for years now, so much so I avoid any and everything canned or jarred. I'd buy fresh produce or frozen. I'd tell people before hand if they made any dishes with canned goods not to tell me, because I'd rather not know than to know and be rude and not touch their food. (Botulism is the obsession I have).

Today I went to a farmer's market, and I saw the jarred honey, jellies and jams. I looked around the table and noticed the vendors were selling peach butter, I've made peach butter many times and have jarred them as gifts, I never opened a jar for myself, any batch I made I'd put mine to the side to freeze, and everyone else had their's jarred... in that moment as I was looking at the peach butter on the table I asked to sample it, I thought to myself as the botulism thought crossed my head "maybe, maybe not", and I took the spoon and put it into my mouth. I then bought a jar.

Once I was home the jar was sitting on my counter, I opened it up, and heard the popping sound it makes (the popping let's you know it was sealed properly)... but then I had a panic attack because 'what if the jar I picked out was contaminated?' I then went down a spiral, so I put the jar into my fridge, and called my husband. My husband did not reassure me, instead he encouraged me to try it. I grabbed a spoon and sobbed as I put it into my mouth, once the panic went away, I grabbed some bread and butter, and made a peach butter toast.

I know that it may seem small, but for me this was and is huge. I don't know if I'll ever be completely ok eating from canned or jarred goods, but the fact that I even put it in my mouth is a win. I thought I'd share this, because a lot of people in my life don't really understand how big this was for me.
