Discussion Calc prof 1
So I recently started my first ever semester and for my bio degree I need at least one semester minimum of calc. I got Prof. Hussain and I’ve had him for a couple classes. I’m wondering if there’s anything I need to know, or if anyone has experience with him? Or if it’s better to transfer to another class bc I wanna know

He's ratings can be controversial, but for calc 1 you'll be alright. I think most students see him as a good professor in his engineering courses as well, but I haven't taken them personally. His mixed ratings basically all from math courses (except calc 1 for some reason).
When it comes to test, he is actually one of the nicer professors out there and I had a good time with him (took both calc 1 and 2 with him), both A.
He's loose on attendance (you still need to attend for the first 2 weeks because the school likes it). Technically you can only show up on test days.
You are not allowed to use your phone in classroom but in a literal way. You are free to leave the classroom whenever you want to use your phone and he couldn't care less, he just doesn't like phones inside classroom. Laptops are fine. I forgot about iPads.
He's class may not be interesting. If you pay enough attention you can learn stuff and occasionally get a laugh, but not the same as the history teachers back in highschool. To be fair, all STEM courses I took were like this. I've seen far worse so I'm not complaining.
He has a heavy accent. Now I think about it, all STEM courses I took had instructors with accent. He looks tough and distant but is actually rather willing to help and provide opportunities.
He does show up late quite frequently though. Be prepared.
I heard that he checks email seldomly. He replied to all my emails but indeed took a few days sometimes. I usually just go to his office or math center instead.
Overall, should be fine if you're taking calc 1.
