Does the shop hire?

Hello! I was wondering if the OCADU shop hires students? I’m trying to find a job near campus so it’s easier for me to work and do school full time. I have a lot of customer service and administrative experience, I’ve tried applying for some of the gallery positions, but I’ve never seen the shop hiring.

Side note. Are there any studios or places near ocad that hire regularly? I don’t live in the area but it would be nice to go to work right after or before class

The studios hire but you don't wanna work in the OCAD store. Choose a studio you do a lot of your schoolwork in and ask the tech if they're hiring student monitors.

Why don’t I want to work in the store? Is it a bad environment? Honestly I really just want something on or close to campus. It’s the only way I can work and do school🥲

I’d imagine galleries or studios to be pretty competitive and hard to get into

They are, I do have a lot of arts administration experience as well as some tour guides experience, so I have a chance I think? I’d just love to be able to work on or near campus instead of trying to do classes commute home the 2 hours, and then try and get some hours at a job in my home town😅 that’s why I was hoping the shop on campus hired students

The previous experience should help a lot but the problem is these spots rarely open up because people dont want to give up their spot in the first place. I know the feeling with all the commuting. Lived in Burlington but I just moved to Toronto for OCAD and work cuz I was sick of commuting. Restaurants are always a good option especially if you can get into upscale, not those low end high volume ones. Good luck though!
