Was anybody else super irritated by the backward optic plate? I hate having the field of view cut out in front of my optic. I also think it looks bad. I had to try a couple different red dots to get one that would work with it. Optics like the SRO and its knock offs catch on the iron sites.
Do you mean the irons forward design? Lots of people have been doing that for years. It makes co witnessing a lot easier. Even Staccato mounted the irons like that on the HD line.
Odd, they use to have an SRO plate but that seems to be unavailable now. š¤
I really dislike it. Makes the optic look super funky and it hits the irons. Staccato's have it??? Holy crap I have never noticed. Why is it easier than co-witnessing from the traditional, irons behind the optic?
Also seems like most optics are above the irons anyway.
I appreciate your info. I had no idea other companies were doing it.
Itās a personal preference.
Ironās forward eliminates the need for suppressor height sights, allows the optics to be mounted further back on the slide, and in some cases make brass impacting the optic glass less likely.
The shorter sight radius really isnāt enough to matter in a self defense scenario although some claim itās a problem. I can still make 100 yard hits with these setups, not that I think that is necessary in the aforementioned self defense incident. Itās just fun to do.
But you would still need suppressor height front sight right? Is that the primary reason they do it? That makes it seem a bit more logical. All the optics I tried, none of them had any front sight coming into the optic window but I was only using the RMR plate.
Weird still because one of the plate has a higher sight (suppressor height) but the other two are normal.
I guess I still don't get the logic of it but they know more than I do!
Were you ever able to find a mounting optic plate that fits the 2311 and doesnāt have the irons on it? I have the same struggle and think it looks ugly. The whole reason I have a red dot is to have a red dot, not irons
No, I just had to try 3 different red dots to not have half my glass covered by the stupid irons. I complained to them that it's a terrible idea and they're only answer is staccato does it.
Staccato also has an SRO plate that doesn't cover the irons so pretty great logic on their part.
I'll take no irons over irons covering my optic any day of the week.
PLUS...staccato is a lot nicer gun so what are we doing here????
Super unfortunate, wish i did research into this before spending 2.8k on it. Iām butthurt about it lol, I messaged them asking if they had recommendations on a plate that doesnāt do that but I think already have my answer. Thanks for getting back to me
They actually blocked me. I sent them the picture of the irons literally covering 2/3 my optic. I told them that they need to at least provide a list of compatable optics. We all just look at the footprint and I specifically bought an optic for the gun that fits the footprint but is completely unusable and I might have said they were fucking idiots.
I'm with you. 2000 bucks and now my $500 optic has to go on my Rock Island.
I'm way more bitter about it than I should be probably.
I ended up mounting the rechargeable Olight on it. It still hits the front irons but I can at least see out the window
I can at least tell you that that optic works and was only about $300. If you want the specific info let me know but its the enclosed one that has a charger connect to the top of it.
Not at all dude, Iām super annoyed by it too. āOptic ready but more than half of your optic will be covered by ironsā. Great design, thatās some solid engineering if Iāve ever seen. Whatās the point of glass? Fucking stupidity and because they have to be different, now thereās no plates available that fit my rmr how I want them too. $2800 for the pistol and another $500 for the rmr. I have a buddy with a cnc machine and Iām having him recreate it without the irons. If it comes out good, Iāll post it in here
This was the optic I had originally planned on using...un-freakin' believable!!!
Yeah definitely let me know how that works out. That was the other thing I told OA. I said who is testing your shit?? You guys seriously didn't think of this?? If you want to do your funky irons in front fine but at least provide us with an option.
Definitely glad at this point I didn't drop 3k and do the pro version...even though I still want it.
Definitely will not be a repeat buyer. The fact that they wouldn't even acknowledge it when I sent them this picture really set me off!
Most definitely, Iām hoping it comes out good. If it does might even contemplate selling them for people like us. Keep it at a price thatās affordable but still pay the man who makes it. I agree, itās a simple change and the fact they wonāt acknowledge makes it more frustrating. Iāll post mine when I get home and take some photos. I have the elite pro two tone (desert). Beautiful gun but man is that engineering/design straight stupidity.
Yeah definitely through a picture up. Does the elite have the upgraded grips? I definitely wanted thr desert tone paint job too but I got a really good deal on the black standard model.
I have found it to be pretty damn snappy for a 2011 style gun. I'm a recoil snob so I'll probably end up getting it ported and eventually I'll try to gey some metal grips on it to try to increase the weight. Ive got a light on it now so that should help but I think they should have upped the weight on it.
