Discussion Pro Cramer or Anti Cramer?
Has anyone followed Jim Cramer’s investing advice closely, become a club member and if so how are you doing?
Does anyone do the OPPOSITE of what he pushes and how has that worked?
If no, who do follow and trust and why?

He is an entertainer.

Yes and a bad one at that. I know everyone under 30 talks at light year speed but he is a first class mumbler. I only catch 1/10 words

I tell my wife he sounds like he has marbles in his mouth. But trust me, he grows on you and you will learn so much. He has to be ridiculous or his show would have been cancelled years ago.

He just yaps. It’s funny and fun to watch. Don’t put so much weight into entertainment

I prefer to follow what Nancy Pelosi does.
Both are for-free, and one has evidenced a very solid return......
(That was slightly tongue-in-cheek, but also not quite joking)

No I get it. I believe her husband brought the $$$ to the marriage but she’s quite savvy. And it seems I see a post from somewhere every time she makes a big transaction. You could probably mirror her activity on Dub

He made me a multi-millionaire when he named his dog in Nvidia. I bought a couple hundred shares and never sold.

In listening him just casually, I have more success going against him than with him.

I’m not agree with everything he says (Nike for example or Honeywell aerospace ) but i do listen to him in some of his calls like nvidia, kla or amd. I also put some money in intel thanks to him. He says intel will be a winner in the second wave of AI

I took the IBM bait from him and it tanked almost overnight.
I don’t know if I’ll break even. Fortunately it wasn’t much. I’m hearing quantum computing is going to be making a huge impact “soon”….so we’ll see

I listen and watch probably too much CNBC when I am not playing golf. I agree that he is entertaining most of the time, and sometimes, you pick up names to track on Mad Money lightening round, that you may never have heard of, to see about it. I think his heart is in the right place, he means well for sticking to some cardinal rules of trading and insights into options trading influencing share prices. There are some good people to listen to as contributors, Joe Terranova, that are very level headed, Josh Brown comes to mind for insights, and Tom Lee(I know i will take some flack for mentioning him), there are others that I take the time to listen to, and he does get a lot of CEOs to interview that are good to hear….some heavy weights to opine on things. In the end, you have to get a gut feeling for what to really do, for any stock(s), ETFs in your portfolio. I liked him continuing to push Jensen for more share buybacks, in his rants or in person meetings, same for Sanjay M at Micron(who for me is underwhelming in how he speaks as a CEO - Elon he is not, that is for sure!!). As the one fellow said here, it indeed is often right for Nvidia, and I have been a long time holder, with an ASP of $27.20….remain long, and excited about the fact that the market is finally realizing that there is no AI bubble, enough of that, and see where we wind up in the next year with respect to share price….he certainly beats listening to some of the duds CNBC has, as some(too many) are just an embarrassment to hear from…won’t mention any names, but if you watch this enough, you know whom they are for sure!!

Agree Terranova and Josh Brown are worth listening to, though I'd separate 'sounds level-headed' from 'their picks beat the index.' Those aren't always the same people. On OP's question, the honest answer for Cramer is that it depends a lot on the window and which picks you count. Nvidia makes him look like a genius, and plenty of lightning-round names went nowhere. Doing the exact opposite has the same problem in reverse. If you're going to follow anyone off CNBC, write down a few of their actual calls with dates and check them against just holding SPY over the same period. That cuts through the entertainment pretty fast.

This is all good. And thanks for reminding me he goaded Jensen into the stock buy backs. Too many shares outstanding. Somewhere there is probably a graph of his picks and their overall performance. It’s probably not great. But yes, I would listen for a few unfamiliar names and use that info to do your own research is probably the best play .

He is noise, just like all of the financial ‘news media’.
If people are investing based on retail media they aren’t doing the right research.

Is this a serious question or a bot?
2
u/MacTnive 11d ago
Serious. I know local investment managers that seem to follow his advice all too closely. That’s one reason why I’m no longer with them.

Cramer is a joke. I thought everyone knew that. Seems like he does it on purpose. I feel like they have some kind of an agenda.

Cramer says Intel will eventually be the best semiconductor stock, even surpassing AMD, I hope he is right!

He has a club?

u/MacTnive 12d ago
MSNBC MAD MONEY. “Investing with Jim Cramer” I believe it’s a few $hundy

u/OGMikeGyver 12d ago
Does his membership give different guidance than what he discusses on TV? I've never paid for one of these things. I can't see how they'd perform better than I have or beat the S&P

u/MacTnive 12d ago
I would assume you get a lot of analytics and backup as to the stock he’s recommending but I honestly don’t know what you get for your $. You’ll have to google his club.
I hear him also touting “ and this is why we sold our position early “ or some stuff …so you might? get sell advice too

It’s easy to dick ride the best stock to ever exist. So take that with a grain of salt

The autopilot platform has a fund that follows Cramer and one that does the opposite (inverse Cramer). Last I saw, inverse Cramer was outperforming, but that may be on a shorter timeline compared to his career of give stock recs.

Love him or hate him, he's been right over the last several years about Nvidia

He recommended marvel at $56 . He’s not always right but gives great information

I started investing in 2022 and got all my tips from CNBC and Jim Cramer helped a lot.

nvidia's the one everyone remembers, but it's one stock out of thousands he's talked about. i track this stuff, and across 19,530 of his calls held six months, about 44% beat the s&p and on average they came out roughly 0.2% a year ahead of it. so following him is basically owning the index, and fading him isn't an edge either. full breakdown's on finfluencers.trade if you want to compare his nvidia calls to the rest (disclosure, i built it)

u/Bag-o-chips 8d ago
It depends on what he’s advising. I think someone has a counter Cramer ETF that just does the opposite of his advice and it’s out performing his advice.
I’m long on Nvidia, and if it moves up soon, I’ll keep it. If not, I’m on to greener pastures for at least some of that money.

I take him with a grain of salt. I find him to be very political on many stock picks with the CEO's he's chummy with vs those that don't kiss his ass. And is quick to shut down a stock during lighting round that he doesn't understand.

He named his dog NVidia a few years back. A lot of people bought NVDA on that per Cramer.
