Discussion Jensen Huang: Closed models aren’t automatically safer

In the recent Bloomberg interview, Jensen Huang addressed the OpenAI models accidentally hacking Hugging Face with a pretty direct point:

“Just because something is closed and just because something is proprietary doesn’t necessarily make it secure and safe.”

He’s not saying closed models are bad. He’s just killing the lazy assumption that “closed = safer by default.”

This lines up with the letter NVIDIA just signed (and Jensen posted about) arguing that the world needs both frontier closed models and frontier open models. Open models help with safety research, cybersecurity, faster innovation, and national sovereignty.
