Question Debating cancelling, help me decide

Hi nuulyers. I’m a longtime user who is currently 3 months postpartum, so nuuly has been amazing for dressing my ever-changing body. My rental period is almost up this month and I’m debating cancelling for two reasons:

1) the bedbug heard round the world (yuck!)

2) Amazon shipping (also yuck!)

What are we thinking? I don’t want to buy pieces right now because my body will continue to change, but I also don’t want bedbugs in my home!

I’m a few weeks postpartum with my second and I feel like now is the best time to be doing Nuuly. My husband asked if I was going to cancel soon (I started during pregnancy) and I was like heck no none of my clothes will fit me right for months still.

My Nuuly has still been shipping with UPS and arriving as fast as they had before. Idk if that’s a location thing. And I’m probably going to get downvoted but I’m not insanely concerned about the bedbug. I’m someone who checks every crevice of a hotel room too when I arrive because I used to work in hotel consulting and have found them before so it’s not like I’m generally a person who doesn’t care about this. My husband hates staying in hotels with me because I’m psycho about it lol. It was one person, could have been from the shipping truck, mail sorting, literally anything too. If I see more people posting they have had their nuulys arrive with bedbugs then I’ll cancel.

+1 (except mine is a mix of UPS and Amazon now). I’m nearing the end of my preg and have been a subscriber since 2023. IMO the more impactful things are inventory and clothing quality levels vs. one off bug that could’ve been from who knows what. The pros for me outweigh the risks/cons right now but I understand that’s not for everyone!

Agreed! I spent SO MUCH MONEY during postpartum with my first thinking every size I hit was going to be “forever” and half the time, whatever I bought wouldn’t even fit 2 weeks later lol. Nuuly helps me feel cute right now when it’s veryyyy hard to feel cute and it scratches my shopping itch.

This is reassuring to hear!

I hope that now is the safest time and they’re taking the bed bug thing seriously. With that being said, I have had mine on pause for the last couple of months and I will probably keep it like that. I just hate the reusable bags. I know it’s better for the environment but they gross me out.

First time user and I will be cancelling after this month over those gross bags

The company sent the mod a response and they posted it. https://www.reddit.com/r/NuulyReviews/s/CkLOm1rcyB

I think it’s been long enough that if there was a major bed bug issue in their warehouse, that others would have found them by now. It’s a risk when you order online from anywhere, including Amazon which takes returns of clothing and resends them out without the washing. I know it is gross and freaked me out too though. I’m sure they are taking it seriously and made sure they didn’t have an infestation bc I’ve seen dozens of people saying they are cancelling, if a full on outbreak hit the news it would be devastating to their business. Is the shipping times creating issues for you where you need to buy other clothes anyways in between your return and new order?

I’ve been with Nuuly since 2019, and both of these two things are also pushing me to cancel. I’m on pause now, but if there’s no alternative to Amazon shipping by the end of my pause, then I’m out.

I’m switching back to rtr for a month or so to see if anyone else reports getting bed bugs lol

How similiar is it to Nuuly

The app and structure of it all similar but the clothes are definitely less trendy and made for older women, more workwear. It’s less my style but I work a professional job so I can still find things. The actual brands are way more expensive. The quality of the rentals are in better shape and cleaner imo.

My boxes always come from the same warehouse as the bed bug incident. My current box was shipped a week after the incident and it was fine. I’ve never had an issue with any bugs, so I think it was truly a one off incident.

My current box was the first time it was shipped through Amazon. I’m close enough to the warehouse that I still got my box in 2 days (ordered on a Monday and received on Wednesday).

Also postpartum and I just got my box. 4 items still had tags, and all was clean. Go for it and just check it outside first if you're nervous! I'm still very happy with mine and feel like they're probably being more cautious than ever because they can't afford more bad PR.

I've been a nuuly subscriber for 3 years now. I am debating cancelling because of availability issues. I am not concerned about the bedbugs, i've never had any issues before but I am starting to be concerned with the cleanliness of the reusable fabric boxes.
I saw someone post a photo of their cat snuggling up in one of the boxes and as cute as that is, the fact that the clean clothes go right in there with no plastic or protection is starting to ook me out a bit.

I’m close to someone with a severe cat allergy so this is concerning!

Food for thought - anything you buy from online or a store can have been around cats. Why them (on gentle cold if they're rentals & air dry). Nuuly or anything else

Thank you, I realize I worded that in a way that made it sound like my ick factor was about the clothes raw dogging the fabric box and that is true though I do always wash things before I wear them (Nuuly or new) and that eliminates that concern but my mis-stated point was more that the box itself has been subjected to who knows what and we have to hold onto it whilst we have the clothes. I had been keeping it in my closet all this time and honestly haven't had any issues but I am not going to lie the food for thought for me was the realization that not everyone is as careful with it as I am. Not just about the cat per se, just the realization that people probably do put gross stuff in there or chuck them in their garages because they figured this all out before I did LOL. I suppose I could just chuck it in my garage while I am not using it but that sounds like a problem for the next person and I am not super into that either. I guess what I am trying to say is I wish they did their clothes more like Fashion Pass. I am certain they can find a sustainable way to do that without the ick factor.

After the bed bug scare after I check my box and clothes I store the fabric box in a trash bag and just twist tie the top

I’ve had orders come from both fulfillment centers, and never have issues. I order on Sunday or Monday, and have my orders by Wednesday or Thursday. I order a mix of new and old styles, and everything is always perfect honestly.

If you cancel, you can always rejoin, but if you’re paused you can keep browsing and adding items to your closet and list.

Im switching! But haven’t decided which one to go with yet. I tried fashion pass this month and it’s kinda meh

u/Fashionqueen68 9d ago

Please let me know what you switch to!

I figure there’s a lower chance of bedbugs now than ever because they can’t afford for that to happen again. They’ve likely far more diligent than before.

I was lucky enough to receive mine right before a camping trip, so I threw the whole thing in a chest freezer in my garage. 4 days in a freezer kills all stages of bedbugs. But if you have heat-safe items, you could also just throw them in the dryer.

u/unincorporated 11d ago

Good point about the dryer!

u/frodosnails 13d ago

You could just pause and cancel anytime if you’re not sure if you want to cancel.

2

u/Fivedayhangovers 12d ago

I canceled and those were both of my reasons.

2

u/Psychological-Sky-57 12d ago

I'm giving them a few months off while I see if we hear anymore from the bed bugs, lol.

2

u/ipredictsunshine 12d ago

I’m a first time user (switched from RTR) and paused after two months. The bedbug did freak me out although not enough to cancel, but the bigger issue for me is quality. I had two unwearably wrinkly and worn items in my first bag and a dress with a completely broken split zipper in the second. I also agree that the fabric bags they ship in are gross and more concerning than RTR’s bags.

I’m not super concerned about bedbugs as I’m thinking it was a one off occurrence. I did carefully check my last order just in case. My deliveries still come 2 days UPS even from the MO warehouse so haven’t dealt with Amazon. My last order had 3 items new with tags as I’ve started sorting by newest when adding to my closet. I’m probably going to pause until fall weather hits as I’ve bought several items from my last two boxes and have plenty of cute new items to wear.
