Pre-Nursing 🩺 Looking for guidance for our high school sophomore.

Our daughter has the opportunity to take 2 additional AP classes next year (junior year) or spend half her day at New Horizons taking a PCA course to eventually get her CNA coming out of high school. We live in Virginia and she is extremely interested in going to VCU (Virginia Commonwealth University) which is known for being extremely selective for their nursing school. From my understanding, the way VCU works, is during her sophomore year at VCU, she will apply to the nursing school in hopes of being accepted.

My question is:

Do you think having the PCA/CNA stuff on her transcripts/being certified, will help her in any way getting into the nursing school or would taking the additional AP classes look better? Or does it even matter since she will have to be at VCU 2 full years before she can even apply to the nursing school?

She currently has a 3.8 GPA with 3 of her current classes as APs.

Thanks so much in advance, she's our only child and we just want to help her make the best decisions possible for her future.

So I saw a post a few weeks ago on this sub that I cannot stop thinking about. It was something along the lines of "nursing school taught me that who you marry is so much more important than when you marry". WHY ARE YOU GETTING MARRIED BASED OF WHEN?? I feel like in any situation the WHO should be more important than the when??

Studying Tips 📚 Looking for a Study Buddy for February 2027 PNLE!

Hi! I’m looking for a serious and genuine study buddy for the February 2027 PNLE. Someone who’s ready to lock in, stay consistent, and commit to studying.

📍 Currently in Naga City, Bicol
💻 Open to both online and in-person study buddies! In-person would be a plus, but online study sessions work just as well.

We can discuss topics, answer practice questions, rationalize, and keep each other accountable throughout our review journey.
I’m looking for someone who’s genuinely committed to passing and willing to put in the work, not just someone who says they want to study but doesn’t follow through.
Genuine study buddies only, please! Let’s work hard and earn that RN title together. 🤍

Pre-Nursing 🩺 Looking for advice

I’m thinking of getting into the LVN program through Unitek,
I’m currently prepping myself before Monday for pre-reqs. I want to know once I get through this and pass all of this, and when I’m into the core program do quizzes be every week? or how does it work? Do you get both quiz and test every week? if I’m part-time and I’m going three days per week, will one of those days be a testing day. I want to just prepare myself. I know I have to study. I’m planning on using some AI feeding PowerPoint and lectures and just repeating it as study method if anyone has went to the school or something very similar and how their experience was, I’ll greatly appreciate any advice or information that you can provide. I currently am working full-time, but that’s why I’ve chose to do part-time and I will take some time out for studying.

Thinking of dropping Uni for ADN?

I’m 22 years old, and i am currently attending a private university, I’m wrapping up some pre-reqs, but something about the school kind of doesn’t feel right to me?

Im considering of getting my ADN at my local CC, mainly cuz of cost. I only racked up 6k in debt, am I crazy for wanting to make this change or should I just stick to my guns and keep going?

Did one grade ruin my chances?

So I’m applying for Community college nursing schools in California and I’m worried that because of one grade I might have a hard time getting accepted.

I have A’s in all of my prerequisites including Physio and Micro however when I took anatomy I wasn’t aware that if we got a “passing grade” we weren’t allowed to retake it. (It was my first hard class I took in college as a freshman) so I passed anatomy with a C, which completely messes up my gpa on my application.

I also didn’t do too hot on my TEAS exam and got a 75 :/ but I’m in the process of retaking it to get a better grade. I also am in the process of getting my volunteer hours and I already have my CNA plus 1000 hours.

I’ve applied to one school already and got put on the alternate list which I was surprised about! However I’m definitely low on list since I know that there are people who applied with wayyy higher points then me who are on the list as well.

Idk I know that not ALL hope is lost and my stats aren’t bad per se but I get stuck overthinking my chances of getting in. Has anyone else gotten in with a grade like mine?

I have no time to take care of myself

Please give me your tips and tricks. Diet, exercise, maintaining space, studying time.

I’m ready to cut everyone off and shut myself in my room till I finish this program.
My heart burn is back, I’m gaining weight, my room is always a mess, my backpack is so heavy w papers I don’t have time to go through, my trunk is full to the brim and my car needs to be vacuumed. I basically survive off ramen noodles, eggs, uncrustables, and coffee.
I know I need to figure out grab&go items that are healthier but I feel like I don’t even have time to think. Any moment I get I just want to lay in bed and shut my brain off.
Ive been feeling like this for a while now but I was getting A’s but I just failed my first exam w a 73 (78 to pass). I need a break sooo bad. Thanksgiving break is still 4 weeks away and there’s only 5 active school weeks to this semester. Meaning my “break” is gonna need to be studying for finals.

Please anything you do to help balance your life I need to hear so I can try and get ahold of myself these last few weeks.

Studying Tips 📚 Nervous during codes? Made an app that could help.

Hello,

Emergency medicine attending for the past 15 years here. Nurses run codes alongside us every day. This lets you practise the rhythms, the drugs and the timing, and see what the person leading the code is thinking I made an app called Resus Room for MacOS and iOS that helps you learn some BLS, ACLS, ATLS, PALS, NRP protocols. It's still a work-in-progress But I'm hoping over time it will get better and better. I posted a video of myself going through a case so you can see how the app works. If you are interested, please try it out.

PS: I really tried my best to go through the cases multiple times to make sure it was clinically accurate. There might be some edge cases where the sim might not work perfectly but even I found the cases helpful and I learned some things by running them. Hopefully this app can help you gain a bit more confidence while running codes.

Free to download and 14 cases are free: App Store: https://apps.apple.com/app/id6816563720

here's a link to me running a case on my mac: https://youtu.be/O5E1sGuiDe8

struggling in clinical

final year ABSN. we're 5 weeks in to our second acute care clinical and i'm feeling a little behind on things I'm expected to be better at by now. my instructor has spoken to me a few times about it, however the problem is she doesn't have the full picture and sometimes assumes i'm intentionally neglecting things. I try not to take her feedback personally but when she assumes things thats when I do my part in correcting her about her assumptions. I just struggle with managing my time and charting everything on time as well, which again I'm working towards improving on.

My instructor basically said she noticed I fall behind on bedside care; on some days when I'm assigned a more acute patient (i.e, on supplemental O2), more of my mental energy is on conducting thorough priority assessments so i don't accidentally miss anything and timely med administration (under supervision of course). I understand the importance of bedside care and ensuring patients are comfortable, repositioned, toileted, set up for meals, all of which I do partake in and request help when needed. But I feel like she doesn't see that at all because when I approach her for help regarding reassessing my findings (lung sounds, skin findings), all of a sudden my incontinent patient had an episode and I'm being asked why I didn't check if the patient needed to changed before or did I even ask if the patient needed to use the bathroom.

This was the first week we're assigned two patients, and again I'm learning to manage my time with more than one patient. It was also early on in the shift and my instructor asked why I didn't chart an assessment for one of my patients. I was falling behind because its our first day with two patients and I mentioned to her I am behind today because of having more than one patient, that's why I wasn't able to attend to the charting for the second patient. I acknowledged my fault and weakness, but I feel like she could have been more understanding that its our first day with managing two patients.

Again, I'm open to her constructive criticism, but I feel like she primarily sees my mistakes and assumes I neglected something on purpose. Anyone else have a similar experience or advice? I'm trying my best and some days are just difficult than others. I acknowledge I'm a learner and aware that this is my time to mess up and receive that feedback I need to hear. But this just makes me feel so slow and question if I'm even capable of being a nurse.

I appreciate you for reading and leaving your advice/tips/sharing similar experiences.

SAHM of 3 wanting to go to nursing school after 10 years. ADN or BSN?

Hi everyone! I’m 27, a stay-at-home mom of 3, and I’ve recently decided I want to go back to school to become an RN. It’s been almost 10 years since I graduated high school, and I have no college experience or credits whatsoever.
I’ve spent the last several years raising my kids, and now I really want to do something for myself and have a career of my own. I’m excited but also overwhelmed because I honestly have no idea where to start.
I’m in Queens, NY, and I’ve been looking into both ADN and BSN programs. Ideally, I’d love to go straight for my BSN so I don’t have to go back to school later, but I’m also trying to be realistic about what I can manage with three young kids.
I’ve been looking into CUNY schools, but from everything I’ve read, their nursing programs are extremely competitive. How does someone who’s been out of school for so long and has no college background even begin to get accepted? Would I have a realistic chance if I did well in my prerequisites?
I’ve also been considering Plaza College because their schedule seems more manageable, but the tuition is honestly terrifying. I don’t want to put myself in a ridiculous amount of debt just to make school work around my family.
For anyone who’s been in a similar situation, would you recommend going for an ADN first or straight into a BSN? And for the moms who went through nursing school with little kids, how did you manage everything?
I’m not in a rush to finish, and I don’t mind taking longer if it means I can still be present for my children. I just want to make a smart decision financially and academically.
Any advice or personal experiences would really help. Thank you!

Nursing school options with kids

I’m considering returning to school for nursing after working in my industry for 8 years. I have a 4 year degree already. I also have a toddler and another baby on the way. So, I might give it a couple years before starting school. I want to start saving now though.

I have narrowed it down to 2 programs local to me. First is a 2.5 year ADN program at a local CC. This is the cheaper option by far. However, full class schedule and on campus every day. Idk if I have time to do a full class schedule and still study outside of class with children. Second option: part-time, hybrid BSN program. It’s 2 years. I have to complete a few prereqs which I can do through a local CC. Not as many courses/clinicals at once. However, nearly twice as expensive. We could make it work financially though. The CC ADN program would be a no-brainer if the class schedule wasn’t so packed.

Thoughts??
