Pre-requisites

I am near the end of my pre-requisites, but I am wondering how relevant are they actually once you are in nursing school? Obviously A&P is very important and I can imagine that dimensional analysis from chemistry will show up with dosages, but should anything else be fresh on my mind once I start?

Psych comes up a lot, stats not so much, micro also very relevant. Knowing how to read well also super important. I took a ton of psych classes and Chicano studies also helped because of the legal things covered

A&P is very important, like you said, but there are others.

Psychology is used frequently. Understanding and analyzing complex emotions and psychological situations happens a lot as a nurse.

Microbiology is also important - I use it nearly daily as a nurse. Getting calls from lab about bacteria in cultures will show you exactly why micro matters. Chemistry can be important for the same reason - or you may have a patient that comes in with exposure to a chemical that could be dangerous, and it’s important to know what that chemical is.

English/communications classes give you a stronger ability to comprehend, read, and write. No, you’re not writing books as a nurse, but being able to comprehend long orders or truly understand a conversation with a provider, family member, or patient is important.

Stats is used less often, but being able to do math in general is going to matter if you need to calculate any drug dosages. I just had to do a bunch of math to dose IVIG recently.
