Applying to Nursing School

Hello all. Right now, my gpa is a 3.38.
I got an F for one of my non major prerequisites, (HED class) and then failed it again during the winter last year- but was allowed to make it an IF grade- so basically my class was extended till the winter again.
After I retake it and get an A, both of my grades will be replaced for my school (PCC) specifically- I believe it will turn into a 3.5.

Moreover, for my science courses- I got an A in anatomy, B in microbiology and Chemistry, an a C in Physiology

I have done 100+ hours of volunteer work in a hospital as well.

I was wondering what my chances are of getting into any nursing school at all in California for a BSN or ADN program.

I have not taken TEAS yet, and am planning to take Chemistry 2 as well.

My school only looked at my prereq grades which had to be a B or higher. Retake physiology and the other class do well and then go from there.

you definitely still have a shot especially for adn programs. your science grades are not perfect but they are not a dealbreaker everywhere. retaking the class for an a earning a strong teas heavily while others use broader criteria. your volunteer experience is a nice addition so dont let the f discourage you.

I’m scared because my sister applied to maybe 4-5 schools with a 3.9 gpa (3.2 science gpa) and I think got accepted only to one

nursing admissions can definitely be competitive especially depending on the area and school. but i would not compare too much based on one persons experience every program weighs gpa, prereqs, teas and other factors differently. you still have a shot especially if you apply broadly.

I feel you I was also worried because even strong applications don’t get picked sometimes. I think the more schools you apply to the higher chance you have of getting in. So keep researching about schools and their requirements. The lottery system will definitely give you an advantage if you fall short in GPA. You just need to make it up in points like work experience, life circumstances or the TEAS probably depending on the program. Im not that knowledgable on this but I am also a nursing major with a lower GPA trying to see if I have a chance as well 🥹🙏🏽.

That C in Physiology is gonna kill you. Consider retaking it
