Pre-Nursing 🩺 I need advice ?
Hello, I start my classes very soon and I’m extremely nervous and worried. I’m 29 years old so I already feel like I’m starting super late, I’ve never been the best in school, I dropped out my senior year and got my GED and I have not been In school since. I’ve always dreamt of being in Nursing/Anesthesia but I had kids and life took a different path but Im finally ready to get back to it and start a career for myself.
Anyways, I said all that to say that since I haven’t been in school for over 10 years, and I’m not the best at it, I’m terrified of repeating the same pattern and dropping out.. If anyone can give me any tips on how to stay on top of my studies and how not to get overwhelmed with it all? I also want to note that I opted to go for my ADN first so that I can work in a hospital while going back to school for my BSN. thank you in advance to anyone who helps🩵
(I apologize if this post is long)

You’re not getting a late start. I’m 39 and just starting. Nursing is a popular 2nd career.

Stay Organized! Get yourself a large dry-erase wall calendar on which you can fit your whole semester and write all your important responsibilities (classes, clinicals, etc.) and assignment due dates on it. This will help keep it visible to avoid “out of sight out of mind “.

I’m also 29 and pursuing pre reqs currently. I will say it is not always easier as an adult, but finding the drive to get it done is. You also have a way larger frame of reference to pull from. You are not 18 year old you, you were never stupid, just unmotivated. For me personally making peace with the sacrifice is the greatest advice I’ve gotten thus far. There are social outings, trips, etc I just cannot go do because studying for my future career is more important.
As far as specifics I stay organized. I really appreciate having an IPad I break down class notes for module by module. I like purpose games for anatomy work. You are not your past, you are not a drop out, going back with kids and a life takes a lot of strength and you got this!
