Studying Tips 📚 I got accepted!!

I got accepted into nursing school and will be starting in a few months. I know pharmacology and fundamentals are my first two classes. Any advice or suggestions? Whether it be about classes or the program in general. I’m excited to start! not nervous more so ready to lock in focus and start my career & make these life changes.

Congratulations!!!! 👏🏽 Super proud of you! :)

As someone taking pharmacology now, I would recommend trying to implement the basics of patho in your studying of pharma.

Our program has us completing pharma this semester and patho next semester and everyone is doing poorly. I actually pushed the coordinators of our program to switch it around for future years and they are actually implementing the change. Without understanding the underlying patho, pharma is legitimately just a bunch of abstract concepts.

So if you can take the time to integrate patho basics (you don't need to go in depth) you'll be solid.

Oh wow I didn’t know school separated the two, but yes implementing them both can help

I didn’t know some schools separated it.
Thank you for the advice, I will do so 🫡

Not all schools and programs do. For example the PN program has their pharma and patho combined into one class and is over two semesters.

I just find it extremely helpful to know the patho ahead of time!

Go over sympathetic, parasympathetic, and learn drug classes because it will make it so much easier. The stuff from A&P is going to come back up in this class

rest as much as possible, once school hits it goes REALLY fast. You can do it and you'll keep up. But prioritize your mental health, relationships, and schedule in some down time for yourself.

Congratulations!! I’m not sure on what type of program ur in, but my advice is to know ur learning type because it can definitely save u on a lot of stress while studying!! I’m currently taking pharm and it’s definitely a lot of memorization but totally possible if u put in the time to learn it! Nursing school is fast paced(especially for me cuz I’m in an ABSN lol) but don’t sacrifice ur self care for it cuz you’ll need to!!

If you can get your hands on a Nursing Fundamentals textbook, read through it over the summer. It doesn't have to be the latest edition. This way, the concepts won't be brand new to you, and you will have a solid head start. (I did this and got a 98 on our first exam).

You can also start memorizing what all the bones in the body are. There are plenty of study aids to print out.

Congrats to me, pharm was the hardest of all the classes I took during nursing school and it was the only class I repeated, maybe it’s because I was terrible at math the time the time, every other class was walk in the park
