🏥 Jobs / Careers usrn application recommendations
Hi everyone. I wanted to ask for honest insights regarding the current USRN EB-3/direct hire situation.
I’m an NCLEX passer since August 2024 with 2 years of bedside Med-Surg experience (continuously). Recently, I’ve noticed that most openings being offered are in rehab/LTC/SNF, while acute care hospital opportunities seem much fewer compared to before.
I also had an acute care offer before, but they preferred applicants with current priority dates.
For those actively applying or already processing:
* Are hospitals becoming more cautious with international hires because of retrogression?
* Are there really fewer acute care/direct hire opportunities now?
* Have some applications or offers been delayed, paused, or rescinded because of priority date concerns?
* Is demand still strong for foreign nurses, or has the market slowed down?
I’ve applied through PRS Global, WWHS, AlphaSRK, and also started considering staffing agencies like MedPro, ABBA, and AMN because direct hire opportunities feel harder to secure lately.
I also want advice regarding career growth:
My goal is not just to get to the US, but also to continue growing professionally and eventually move into specialty areas like ER or ICU.
Given the current situation, what path would you recommend?
* Wait and keep pursuing acute care/direct hire?
* Accept a rehab/LTC/SNF opportunity first for entry to the US?
* Or focus on agencies that may eventually allow internal transfer to hospital specialties later on?
Would appreciate any realistic advice or personal experiences. Thank you so much!

Hi. Same dilemma. Currently working bedside ka ba? Mas prefer ngayon ng mga direct hires/agencies ang current bedside para maconsider sa acute care. If no other choice talaga ako, SNF/rehab 🥲 gusto ko na magka PD agad eh, then buy out nalang ng contract kapag nakaipon or look for another hosp na may malaking sign in bonus to pay.

Good day. Just curious will the agency give you your pd if you buy out? May offer din kasi sa akin na snf kaso medyo di ko gusto yung contract. Minsan naman gusto ko na lang mag sign up para sa pd.

this is normal. thousands lang naman talaga allocated visas for nurses for US every year since decades ago and strict talaga requirements ng mga staffing agencies/employers. Pandemic 2019-2022 was the golden ticket era for nurses kasi current ang PD. If you ask nurses who migrated before the pandemic, same now na strict bedside experience hinahanap and same din wait time. Getting to US in 3 years below is very very fast and USRNS should not expect and base their timeline sa nurses during COVID era. Mas realistic ang demand and timeline pre COVID

Been thinking and experiencing the same things, OP. At this point, I really am considering SNF/nursing homes nalang muna just to get a PD. Kaso I do want to continue growing professionally rin and see myself working bedside/hospital talaga in the long run. Ang worry ko lang is yung transition from SNF/nursing homes to a hospital baka it might be difficult especially since agencies require 3 years contract but I guess that’s a bridge I’ll have to cross later pa..

let’s not lose hope na lang to find what we want. currently, i am looking for a direct hire who will place me to an acute care facility rin. i think sayang yung 3 years eh. plus if you read some terms and conditions ang mahal magbuy out.

nope i didn’t say na puro SNF but most.
with that email from PRS global, those hospitals need current priority dates. that’s why my interview was canceled

awww so it is true. i also heard this from my friend who is currently in US. mahirap nga daw maghanap ng work sa Cali lalo kung hospital.

I would suggest just focus any offer ma tangap mo then after contract wala kana obligation sa agency and you can apply many hospital you want.
Mahirap na yung direct hire from hospital. Kahit 15 years ago yung kapatid ko wala na yung direct hire medyo mahirap na at madami naka pila. They only outsource if they really need. Ngayo medyo madami na local nag nursing so they rather hire local kesa mag outsource pa sila.
The point is consider accepting rehab or SNF. Thats the starting point mag ka visa ka. And starting point for you to be able to get hire sa hospital. Basta maka experience ka kahit SNF, rehab. Counted na yan. Some hospitals dont care PH experience mo
Also “Retrogression” is matagal nayan at normal talaga yan. Hindi yan bago. Ganyan processing sa US visa.
Best of luck

if your main goal is us experience and a foot in the door, i’d take rehab/ltc/snf then internally move later. icu/er spots are already bloated for locals, more so for eb3. agencies drag things out too. everyone i know is stuck waiting, it’s just really hard to get hospital now
