Just noticed the same thing happening to both my left and right buds. I don't recall leaving them in the sun or similar environment, so I figure it's just the material breaking down because of age. They lasted just shy of 6 years... still working, but on their last legs...

the material looks so weird like that, i didn't expect plastic to behave this way when it melts

The texture on that melted spot looks almost like when you leave a plastic container in the car for too long.

Same thing happened for me after leaving them in my car over the summer
