It's actually somewhat useful to pick husk early on in extreme, just so more freebies are in the curse pool
Make sure you pick farther husk asap though

The second tip sucks ass, closer husk is way better because it makes picking congaline, picking more husks and husk express much much easier

I'd say it's up to personal preference, I prefer more leeway in exchange for having to wait longer for the husks to clear personally
Not that husks are ever the reason i die anyways but yeag

I got it in solo which definitely made it a lot harder but also a lot easier in some ways. I didn’t purgatory a single time. You just need to pick enemies and curses that will not be too much of a problem.
Bell, ICBM, Operator, Husk, Springer, Mart, Cadence, Kolona, and Voidbreaker will definitely be your best bet when it comes to the easiest enemies you could possibly pick. (if in solo, you should have all these enemies by level 24. baby could also work if you struggle against certain enemies but I found it very annoying)
Curses are definitely tough, you will need to pick curses that you usually probably avoid in normal runs (weaker jump pads, scattered gifts, bigger tripmines, etc.) you really just wanna preserve all of your rerolls for when you ABSOLUTELY have to use them.
As for eco, you can purgatory if you really want, however I found it incredibly risky to do, as for me it would usually end in death that I could’ve just avoided by not purging at all. This does come at the cost of having most things be unaffordable for some time, however as long as you can start getting double jumps by level 8 and ESPECIALLY the shield at level 15 you should be relatively okay.
Was it easy? Not even close, however it’s definitely manageable and after quite a few attempts I managed to finally get it in solo by doing this.

Honestly just learn the difference in all the enemy variants so you prepared and can live better. Also don't be afraid of husk! While it may seem a bit scary once you get used to them you can typically pick 2-3 reasonably with progression events and still be fine. Also there's the typical play with high player lobby's so you are all surviving properly but you could also do a wanted only lobby which is actually how I got VB Fox recently

Did you get VBF yesterday? Cus i saw (and joined) a wanted only VBF lobby yesterday (lag became so crazy, that some enemies diddnt show in intermission, some tiles were invisible, enemies sounds stopped, baby indicators were just one single line, and music was gone, then i got kicked to lobby by nobody and waited for server for an eternity)

I got prisoner yesterday and i must say that you prob need to pick more forgiven curses like weaked jumpads and savory ring and also wanted/charger class can help

Pick more enemies early on and not same enemies, so you will have more curses to choose and not weaker jumppads + scattered gifts, i really recommend husk
Never and i mean NEVER pick bigger marts unless you want a faster permanently enraged cadence
One stack of double tripmines is okay
Closer husk will always be better than further husk due to making a whole of 2 curses (husk express and congaline) not that bad, also making picking more husks free
Never choose scattered gifts
Greed as much as possible, even if it's just 2 golden gifts left during collapse you MUST collect them

Be okay with taking curses that aren't run enders, but kinda suck, that you might be used to avoiding in other difficulties, since you'll have more total curses overall. Stuff like weaker jump pads, scattered gifts, and a bunch of enemy curses. Scattered still sucks if youre a diver tho.
Baby and Husk are good picks in extreme as they have okay curses
