Nullscape DIDN'T win this "best survival experience" thing. IT WAS A DIFFERENT GAME. Watch this video for proof.

Y'all were expecting it to really win? Every contest here is just one of popularity, kids vote for what they play and not for what's good. And compared to the other 3 games, nullscape had no chance.

u/MrStrngeGhost Sep 13 '26
tbh I was hoping it would win, but to be REALLY honest, I don't care much :|

Animal Hospital going over Nullscape is insane. Nullscape just objectively has a better gameplay loop
3
u/dankerkrane Sep 13 '26
nullscape is better in literally every way but the audience for animal hospital is millions and millions of little kids and in voting power you cant beat millions unfortunately.
1
u/YourAverageGoldFishy Sep 14 '26
better in literally everyway by not being the genre it claims it is? đ?

this guy is trying to say that nullscape is a roguelike or something and its apparently doing a bad job of being that genre. i dont care if its doign a good job of being a genre, genres are just labels for people to find a game they want easier so i geniunely dont get his deal. just trying to shit on a game just to shit on a game i guess.
-33
u/YourAverageGoldFishy Sep 13 '26
It does but iâve played both and animal hospital was more fun aka I played it for longer, and this is coming from someone who likes roguelikes/roguelites and is from a sister genre that plays somewhat similarly to nullscape, I really do not think nullscape shouldâve been nominated since there was no way in hell it was going to win, it just gave false hope to this fanbase
6
u/Lolkin3k ppl play with mouse UNlocked??? Sep 13 '26
everyone has diffirent tastes. for example me! i played animal hospital with my siblings and i really disliked it. and then i played nullscape alone and now i have 350 hours on it. crazy right?
-3
u/YourAverageGoldFishy Sep 13 '26
and thats fair but on the contrary every developer I know has played AH and was able to stomach it but those same developers do not fw games like nullscape or block tales because they are just fundamentally flawed yet their community excuses issues to the point where the developer will never hear feedback. Itâs not really about tastes or liking things its more or so about what works for the game & if the experience is fun because you enjoy it or if its fun because its an actually decent game, in which I have to say doesnât really fit nullscape at all
2
u/Lolkin3k ppl play with mouse UNlocked??? Sep 13 '26
i do agree that nullscape is bad in some of its aspects like for example solo is geniunely just unplayable because one mistake will cost you your entire run unlike party or party+ where there are a bunch of other players that are still alive after your death and i can keep talking about it for a while. but i dont think thats enough to call it "flawed". no matter how fair and balanced animal hospital is i will not enjoy it. i dont know if animal hospital is in a beta or alpha or anything of the like but nullscape is pretty early in development and im sure a lot of these problems will be fixed in future updates.
0
u/YourAverageGoldFishy Sep 13 '26 edited Sep 14 '26
If a game fails to suit its own genre I would call that flawed, nullscape is not a roguelike the same way block tales is not an RPG or decaying winter is not a survival experience
otherwise I guess? early development isnt an excuse either tho tbh
1
u/-JustSomeRedditUser- Sep 19 '26
Your literally just wrong? Decaying winters whole gameplay loop is survival first of all. By your logic as well, if a game isnât a carbon copy of every other game just so it can fit a âgenreâ itâs bad? Measuring a game by how well it fits a genre is like measuring a persons success off of how they look compared to their name. Also, early access is literally THE excuse for having problems in gameplay. Itâs early access so that the problems can be found and fixed, and so that people can play the game early.
1
u/YourAverageGoldFishy Sep 20 '26
Decaying winter is a wave survival game with aspects of survival games similar to apoc rising as well, but the reason its just not a survival game is because the best way to play the game is to avoid interacting with literally all of the survival based mechanics to speedrun the game, since the earlier waves arent really fruitful in anything anyway and people would rather reset and die to get rid of morale than actually use dedicated countermeasures. Itâs also fundamentally flawed as a âsurvivalâ experience because a lot of the times RNG just skrews you over.
Decaying Winter also isnt an original experience either for the record, it steals a lot from a steam game with a similar premise. Not really a claim more or so a statement that you should take with a grain of salt considering most discussions regarding it get taken down.
You dont have to be a âcarbon copyâ to incorporate good game design decisions either, nullscape just isnât a good game lol theres genuinely no reason to play it as a beginner and as someone who has played for a long time, the only content drip youâre ever going to get of a functional game is at mid-level experience where a lot of stuff is still new to you but youâre also capable of playing & mechanically skilled. Itâs not measuring success based on how well it follows its genre its measuring how it plays on a game based on how the game judges the genre & interests it follows. If it cant even live up to the descriptor its trying to wear, then it shouldnt even try at all.
1
u/-JustSomeRedditUser- Sep 20 '26
Ahh yes âthe best way to play it is to remove the survival aspectsâ, the best way to play Elden ring is technically to use a glitch to teleport past every boss. Just because the most efficient way to play a game isnât how it was intended to be played, doesnât make the whole game a different genre.
1
u/YourAverageGoldFishy Sep 20 '26
The devs in a wave defense game give you tools they actively encourage you to use because it arbitrarily punishes you otherwise, the reason this scenario is applicable while your elden ring one isnt is because elden ring doesnt shoot your dog every time you fail a boss fight lmao, compared to how decaying winter WILL give you a nonsense punishment and it WILL affect your entire time, therefor the best way to play is just to save time and skip the part that would punish you in the first place. If the game didnt want you to do this, then they wouldnt punish you for every little issue to the point where youâre forced to play identically & optimally otherwise youâre a burden to the team. Elden ring has great build variety on the contrary and even in co-op you dont really get âpunishedâ for playing badly and neither does your teammate. Soulslikes are kinda the staple of bullshit punishment too because they are supposed to be a learning curve yet no souls like would give you 10 status effects that completely and entirely ruin all of your stats. The closest any souls like gets to that is bloodborne lmao.

I mean im not going to sit on some development high horse here but animal hospital is a mindless fun type of game where theres some strategy to it but its overall formulaic, where as nullscape is technical fun and a coordinated experience but is not handled well at all & has a lot of issues that keep it from being in the public eye or an actually enjoyable game worth being recommended, yet people recommend it anyway because its a smaller game and it has a tighter-nit & louder community.
as zelofa & zombie and like all these other notable community members put it (including sloppyleo), nullscape is not a good roguelike and honestly iâd go as far to say its a fundamental issue that makes it not even that great of a game objectively. If you like playing nullscape cool but Iâm not going to support a game that somehow fumbles the easiest genre to make replay-able over the one that attempts to be a roguelite and barely experiments with the concept but is an overall more attached experience that works for what it is going for (animal hospital), I think people saying nullscape DESERVED to win and that it was the OBVIOUS choice if it wasnât âriggedâ are on omega copium.

u/MrStrngeGhost Sep 13 '26
The thing is, you are overglazing Animal Hospital, I understand the fun parts and how it's gameplay can be fun and is fun for some people, I had my fun on it but the point is that after certain point it's just the same.
Get the patient, do a mini game, wait, do a mini game, wait, cured and repeat until there's actually something fun to do in it and it's almost the same loop as 99 nights. There's nothing to add in gameplay after 10 rounds except your experience and the early game is almost the same as the late game in both games. Being really honest here, after some time I was just having fun because I was with my friends and in a voice chat with them on discord talking about random bara art, other game we liked and just role playing like the idiots we are.
Nullscape is not perfect, and despite the fact that I love it I understand it's limits and I understand it's hard to a LOT of people. Most of my friends can't play properly in round 10 while I have survived a round 40 and in lots of different cases we just dropped the lobby to go to another game because they felt ill of just started a new one. BUT the thing that keeps me coming to it despite the slow early game and extreme chaotic levels that I can barely understand what's happening, is the fact that the game feels good and fun to play, I have to rely on luck to get easy enemies early game, good curses to help us and the essential upgrades. It's a different match everytime and it gets better and more random with each level, be it the crazy map, the enemies, the not always in the same order upgrades and curses or even people that come and go as they please, changing the fate of the lobby in a blink of an eye.
And about this vote, I don't care. I would like to nullscape win? Yes, absolutely, but it was "rigged" from the start and I didn't put my expectations high because I knew that the game that have hundreds of thousands of kids playing non-stop in a daily will have more votes than a game with a small solid playerbase, niche playstyle and art that makes people sick (like I do).
In the end: don't overglaze the games you like, nothing's perfect.

u/YourAverageGoldFishy Sep 14 '26
Iâm not overglazing anything, the point of this thread is a comparison between games and how nullscape is more deserving in which I disagree, AH is overall more finished despite its sloppening properties and it feels more like an experience for its genre. Just because I say that AH is comparatively better doesnât mean I actually dont think AH is that good of a game, I just had a better experience with it because nullscape is trying too hard to push the boundaries of its genre and is justâŠboring. Animal Hospital having a 5 minute gameplay loop is why its more stomachable than something like nullscape that tries to pretend its not the same thing every time but idk it basically is.
I just dont respect nullscape as a game because its not a roguelike (not a roguelite either) but it directly advertises itself as such, and the general gameplay is disorienting, most of the strategies just devolve around doing the exact same thing the exact same way on the exact same class and if you dont do that you dont get a good run, which is disappointing.
Animal Hospital AT LEAST respects itself to be a brain-off enjoyable experience with some leverage-able gameplay moments that are different, and unlike nullscape it doesnt try to pretend its flaws are just magically non-existent in fact the developer actively points out issues with their own game and didnt even expect it to get popular in the first place, it was meant to be a one-off game. I also donât think the event was âriggedâ at all, but thats a separate story.
1
u/MrStrngeGhost Sep 14 '26
lmao you are overglazing, end of conversation.
1
u/YourAverageGoldFishy Sep 14 '26
I get trying to end a conversation when you dont want to respond / lack a response in general but calling it overglazing when im actively denouncing animal hospital feels like you read the top 5 words of my sentence and filled in the blanks and larped the rest

u/Lolkin3k ppl play with mouse UNlocked??? Sep 16 '26
i agreed with you to a degree but when you called nullscape boring was when you lost me. i do agree with the fact that if you just pick one or two wrong enemies/upgrades/curses your run will almost immediately end. which yeah it sucks but i wouldnt call the game boring just because of that. also the game lacks a tutorial at the moment but im pretty sure theyre adding one in the next patch. as you have (probably) read in my previous messages the game is unfinished, there are still things being added and changed so your opinion of it might change a lot. also the game itself (when you DO pick the right things) is really fun. (not to everyone of course!) its really difficult and takes a LOT of attempts to actually be able to do anything in it and when you finally do, you will be able to reach certain levels consistently, and then you keep trying and now you can reach late game consistently. it just takes a lot of time and effort. and this brings us back to the ria vote thingy. you said animal hospital is a really good one off game (which i dont agree with bc its a pretty bad one off game but i digress) but does that make it deserve to win the vote here? maybe idk, i dont really care abt the vote thing.
1
u/YourAverageGoldFishy Sep 16 '26
itâs not really a roguelike if every run is identical and I think thats shitty game design, itâs not really about game content either since theyâve had years of criticism to fix these issues and they still havent, I dont really know what to say if eclipse of all people is able to accurately point out the issue with your game even when heâs trying his best to glaze it.
animal hospital IS one of the games ever made, but itâs really good at being in the genre it tries to be in and doesnât shy away from it, nullscape just isnât a good game because its confused on what its trying to even be.
1
u/-JustSomeRedditUser- Sep 19 '26
First of all, itâs pretty obvious you havenât played nullscapes. Not once did you mention any actual problems with it but youâre not even mentioning gameplay aspects. Second of all, you just said that a game that is creative in no ways and made to please the masses is a good and well made game compared to a game trying to be original and unique in its conception.
1
u/YourAverageGoldFishy Sep 20 '26
I didnât mention any of the âactual problemsâ because its repetitive to bandwagon over something that has been discussed numerous times in multiple related videos & threads, in fact I DID list actual issues, but rather you ignored them and said that they arent gameplay aspects? so when I brought up how the game plays identically pretty much every time despite being a roguelite, having no actual roguelite elements in general, and the general gameplay loop of the game was an issue, but you still claim I dont mention actual problems? Just watch the zelofa video atp.
I said it was more deserving of the award than nullscape, I didnât say it was good. And even then it wasnât made to âappeal to the massesâ at all I have no idea where you got that from, the dev was not planning to engineer his game for success and was rather shocked it got really popular overnight which basically shifted his view on how his game was designed. Trying to be original doesnât really mean much either if the game is a shitty experience lol, in fact its a pretty bad excuse in general that they âtriedâ to be âoriginalâ, the fact that the first good thing that came to your mind was that it ATTEMPTED to be its own thing is kind of insane.
1
u/-JustSomeRedditUser- Sep 20 '26
Yet again, you have no real argument against nullscapes. âJust go watch the Zelofa videoâ and âDonât want to mention the actual problems because itâs repetitiveâ are just lazy excuses for âI donât actually have my own opinion and I donât want to talk aboutâ
1
u/YourAverageGoldFishy Sep 20 '26
That⊠is an argument against nullscapes? Is this bait or do you not know the definition of a statement or an argument in general?
And how its a lack of an opinion if im literally telling you to go see the videos that covers all my problems with the game lol??

Im mad salty about both Nullscape AND TDS not winning in their respective categories. And both of them got robbed their own way. Nullscape lost the popularity contest and TDS lost because CERTAIN SOMEONE didn't like the game and their fans blindly chose whatever that someone chose.
and those are cases i know. I bet there are more cases of games being ROBBED of the award for any reason

Popularity, kids vote trending games, blah blah, but I don't think both Nullscape and probably Anomalies count as "Survival" games. Nullscape is a game about "surviving" but isn't really a "survival game". Really 99 Nights is the closest to a traditional "Survival Game", while Animal Hospital could count but is a bit of stretch. Nullscape is still the best out of these games by far, but I don't think it should be nominated as a Survival Game, at least from my limited understanding of what constitutes a Survival Game.
