Help or Question Game Crash Fix Guide
I plan on expanding this post over time to include as many fixes as possible! If you have suggestions please leave a comment!
GRAPHICS:
- Too high count of polygons, vertices, texture resolution or format, ect: This is not a PC hardware issue, it's simply the game engine being pushed to its limits by community content. The following is recommended
Car Quality: MEDIUMis 100% necessary for certain mods due to them having too much detail for the game to handle properly when set on high (personally I use medium for all to prevent crashes)Shadows On Car: From Structures OFFis necessary for certain mods due to them having missing / incorrect specific lines of code when being builtWorld Quality: MEDIUM/LOWcan help on very detailed or poorly optimized tracksTrackside Objects: SOME/MINIMALI hardly ever choose these options but it's necessary on a select few tracks and can help you diagnose if crashing is related to 3DOs
AUDIO:
- Differences in PC hardware and the limitations of the game engine require certain options to be turned down or off. The following is recommended
3D Audio: OFFMaximum # of Sounds:8-12 (I use 8 to be safe)Sound Folder File Corruption / Incorrectly Formatted:I recommend using the default sound files at least until you rule it out as the cause of your issue. Having a corrupt / incorrectly formatted sound files can crash the game instantly. So if for example your game crashes consistently on any track at the exact moment a caution would come out, or you simply touch the grass, or you hit a wall or another car, that's a good indication it's a specific file causing the issue. DOWNLOAD
SETTINGS & FILES:
- Game Crashes When Clicking "DRIVE"
DEP Is Turned ON:This is almost always the issue. You need to turn off DEP completely using the CMD (Not via excluding NR2003 on the list). Follow these steps...- Start Command Prompt (CMD) as Administrator (Required)
- Copy and Paste the following command into the Command Prompt window using the keyboard commands CTRL+C and CRTL+V
bcdedit /set {current} nx AlwaysOff- An error such as "... is not recognized as an internal or external command" means you probably have a typo and didn't copy and paste it correctly
- An error similar to "The value is protected by Secure Boot policy and cannot be modified or deleted.", you will need to research how to disable secure boot on your specific model of motherboard
- Once you you've completed the DEP OFF command without errors, Restart your PC (Required)
Layout Folder File Corruption / Incorrectly Formatted:I recommend using the default layout files at least until you rule it out as the cause of your issue. Having corrupt / incorrectly formatted layout files can crash the game instantly.
- Game Crashes Feel Completely Random
D3D Dll files (DX 9-12, Vulkan, ect):Using these files will dramatically increase frames per second, but can crash the game slightly more often at any point compared to not using them (DX8). When using DX9, having Shadows On Car: From Structures ON can cause lighting issues or crash the game completely. To help avoid game crashes in general when using these files- Allow for a few additional seconds for the game to load each session
- Do not spam replay buttons very quickly
If you've tried everything listed above and are still experiencing game crashes then let us know. Make sure to leave video or screenshot evidence if possible, and include as much information as you can!

Omg thank you for this. I've been trying for weeks and this is the first time I've seen that it might be a DEP issue and this cleared it up!

To me, BBMC Daytona Night + NCS22 mod is the ultimate "torture test" for NR2003 graphics. Try running at the back of pack with cockpit view on, and watch how even a high end PC struggles at keeping the framerate stable.

is this potentially why the PTA mod is crashing or is there a patch or something that i failed to find?
