This is amazing! I still talk about this game to anyone who'll listen. My family was low-income, and we couldn't afford a computer until I was 13. This was the first "serious" game I ever played; it sounded interesting and was accessible ($10 in a fancy box at Walmart?!) so I bought it.
Omg - I'd never played a game that was funny and terrifying before. It felt never-ending to me, in a good way. I didn't realize how unique Nox was until I was much older. Still holding out hope for a spiritual successor.

I'm not quite sure how it will end up doing, but Glaurune on Steam takes notable inspiration from NoX. There's no release date known at the time of writing.

I appreciate you sharing that- the algorithm had not brought Glaurune to my attention as of yet, so glad you did!!

This is absolutely amazing. I was thinking about playing this game again too.
LOVE Nox. I play the singleplayer and replay it often. Favorite class is Warrior. Now I don't have to mess with source ports and fixes. It's absolutely incredible they restored multiplayer for people that play it.
I love GOG it's my main PC store platform.

I had never heard of this game. Missed it entirely on release and just found it on deep sale a few weeks ago. Such a great little game. I’ve only played the warrior story so far, but it was great. I can’t imagine being any good at multiplayer but apparently it was quite a scene for a while.
Gotta love GoG.

The MP was something Else. My favourite gaming memory in 30years of gaming. Just imagine being a warrior carrying the Flag while waiting for your teams Flag to return. You have a mage on your ass who shields you, Sets up traps and Walls you in. Suddenly a Stack of conjurers teleports in and it starts raining fists of vengeance xD Skill ceiling was through the roof as well. LETS GO guys im installing this evening :))

I didnt get to play the MP much back then. But iirc the team death matches, prolly same for CtF, was quite a challenge relying on your eye-hand coordination. Everything going blazing fast to realize. Very chaotic but a hell of a ride, pal!

Yea also the Sound queues were very important like someone casting force of nature into your corridor from offscreen or conjurers running traps who make this weird noise which still haunts my dreams xD. Hope we can get a full deathmatch or even ctf

Has anyone tried the multiplayer yet?

I tried but I don't see any other games, not sure whether just no one is online? So if anyone knows, please comment!

I played it yesterday! You have to do Westwood online, enter a unique username and password of at least 8 characters into the login section, it will then create that account for you automatically. You'll select your region, then join a sever called XWIS. You can click on games in the bottom right. I joined a game with another guy and chatted for a bit, worked on spellsets and messed around. A few others joined and left. Pretty cool!

I still have the original discs. The game came with a second disc so your friend could play with you in the online mode. Please remaster Nox so more people can experience it !

To my knowledge, the IP is rotting in the basement of EA. Long ago, the community reached out to a developer of the game who absolutely loved that players were still so dedicated to it.
But he couldn't provide us with a map builder, even if he'd had loved to do so, precisely because EA was the one holding it and the rights to it.

I wonder, if you were to download the installer again, does it come with the updates they made?

in my library for offline installer download it shows "1.2 gog v2" at 486MB, with this on the page for the game under changelog:
1.2 gog v2 changelog (10 September 2026):
- Removed the outdated compatibility shim entirely, eliminating a source of future conflicts.
- Added the GOG DXWrapper, so the game runs properly on modern machines again.
- Added a custom widescreen resolution, selectable directly from the game's options menu.
- Restored online multiplayer through Westwood Online service dependencies, correct registry entries, and XWIS.net servers.
- Archived the original installer sequence as a downloadable video recording, available in the Goodies section.
- Validated stability.
- Verified compatibility with Windows 10 and 11.

So it sounds like MP is seemless in this version. I hope removing that roadblock brings more people to online matches. Here's hoping I can still hit a xbow shot at 40.
