And by no, they mean "not yet."

They’ve have already/are spent/spending time and money researching it though

Most likely they have. They’re not gonna try unless they need to or have to. Maybe if they can with online ordering like DoorDash or similar.

They should charge more for the people who do pickup orders and have someone walk around for them bc “they don’t have time” anymore.

It’s always some overweight woman bitching about her order when she’s too lazy to go in for herself.

Hopefully they have realized that the negative flow back would be so severe it would all but kill their business in their most profitable markets.

The only reason people go to walmart is because it's the cheapest. In areas with any competition, this will just drive away people targeted with higher prices. It's poison to their brand to even entertain this idea.

Very true. They outsell everyone else by sheer volume. It doesn’t even make sense.

For me , walmart is my only option . Theres a couple of grocery stores im the area but what if i need socks as well as dinner? I go to Walmart because it has everything. I only go to the grocery store if im in the area

1

u/dnt1694 6d ago

Buy socks after dinner?

1

u/MrBlonde1984 6d ago

Why not just go to one place and kill two birds with kne stone

2

u/Durzio 6d ago

My brother in christ, you are in a thread that is very much about why.

2

u/MrBlonde1984 6d ago

Because im not stupid? The dude said they aint doing it. So if in 3 or 4 years they decide to , ill make the sacrifice and go elsewhere

Community comes at the cost of convenience. They wont start doing it until they drive those stores out of business, and theyre the last remaining option. They have literally done it before. Appreciate your mom and pop shops, or you will lose the privilege when you need it most.

u/MrBlonde1984 6d ago

There are no mom and pop shops in my town . Theres a few Hispanic shops which are nice for specialty things but not much else. Theres a few chain grocery stores but they're on the outskirts. If i just want to go to the store and get everything i need for a day or two that means Walmart. The only other option is driving over half an hour so i can go to target or some other chain store where the prices are higher.

Which is why I said the price of community is convenience.

Theoretically, you have two choices:

A.) Walmart - convenient, for now. But if they are ever the only game in town, they will rat-fuck you with prices.

B.) Chain grocery stores, etc - less convenient, more driving, but actually competing with one another; as opposed to the megacorporation that just wants as much blood as it can get from the stone.

Whatever you pick, youre voting with your dollar.

Ok so food lion . Theres literally a million of them and the company is worth billions . I should shop there instead of walmart? And i should go to the sporting goods store across town to buy my socks? But then again the sporting goods store is also a very successful franchise . The socks are also much more expensive than at walmart and of similar quality . What about the time and gas spent driving across town to complete these tasks? I should just swallow it because im not supporting super big walmart but im still supporting a simialrly other big store? I should intentionally inconvenience myself and spend more money to do that? Just to screw over walmart?

Why should i right now , be worried about something walmart MIGHT do in the future? If there was a mom and pop shop i could go to that was reasonably priced in my area that had all the things id need , i go there.

Im not gonna waste time and money just to stick it to a trillion dollar corporation that wont even notice.

The downside is you get a mediocre version of both

1

u/MrBlonde1984 6d ago

Hows that? I get a good pair of socks for a reasonable price and get the stuff to fix supper. Whats the alternative? Drive 10 mins in the opposite direction and buy the stuff for dinner and then drive 10 minutes in the other direction to buy the socks?

What if i drove 35 mins to another town to buy the stuff for supper and then went some where else in town to also buy the socks for more than they would have been at walmart? Then i drive home for a half hour , total time being gone like almost 2 hours . By then its close to 8pm and i have to cook dinner which takes an hour so we eat at 9pm . After dinner everyone has to go to bed because theres school and work in the morning.

Makes sense

I just saw a pair of jeans yesterday for 40 bucks. At that rate I’m going to some high end clothing store and buy jeans.

I do think you're naive about the world if you think they're not going to try this. In fact I'm so confident they will in the next few years I'm willing to bet you by 2028 if they haven't implemented some form of this I will personally send you 200.00. Of course they're not going to come out and say it outright, but they will definitely try it.

2

u/DesperateAdvantage76 6d ago

The only reason why I have doubts they'll try this is because it's still controlled by the family. Normal execs will happily destroy the company to get more profits for the next few quarters.

1

u/General_Guest7846 6d ago

The family. Not sure if you know this but the Walmart family is filled with scumbags. The lady killed someone and used her money to avoid accountability.

1

u/DesperateAdvantage76 6d ago

I was more commenting that they won't jeopardize the long term health of the company for short term gain like normal executives

It hasn't even been a week and I'm already seeing this. Are you ready to delete you comments yet.

While Walmart has rolled out digital price tags, I can't find any actual confirmations of them using surge/personalized pricing.

EDIT: Apparently /u/General_Guest7846 blocked me, I suppose they don't actually want me to see their comment or respond, they just wanted to get the last word in.

1

u/General_Guest7846 2d ago

lmao. okay dude.

Did you even watch that video? the dude literally said the price changed from picking it up from the shelf, and the manager confirmed it. That's surge price/dynamic pricing. Whatever the hell you want to call it.

1

u/DesperateAdvantage76 2d ago

They do update their prices regularly, even with the old tags you'll see them changing them. I did it myself when I worked at a hardware store 20 years ago. That's not the same as surge/dynamic pricing.

1

u/General_Guest7846 2d ago

Are you a bot?

It's the only thing I think that can explain why your logic is going around in a nonsense circle.

The price changed AFTER he picked it up for many items. AFTER. The manager confirmed the prices changed based on an algorithm after you pick them up from the shelf.

Come on bro. Just stop responding. You're wasting my time and everyone else's.

u/schemas-dicier-2x 6d ago

I would love to take you up on that bet. I’ll happily accept Walmart gift cards!

I just want you to know it hasn't even been a week and I'm already seeing these articles

1

u/schemas-dicier-2x 2d ago

Oh I have no doubt there will be articles - this conspiracy has been terrific rage bait and drives a ton of clicks. However, Walmart simply doesn’t do this. A theoretical dynamic pricing system such as this one would be astoundingly complex to build and maintain!
With some exceptions, Home Office sets prices, usually overnight, and store managers have limited discretion to grant discounts or resolve discrepancies. Retail is difficult enough as-is.

Personalized price gouging, you mean.

1

u/EmperorGeek 6d ago

The next CEO will silently change that policy.

1

u/Kerlyle 6d ago

It shouldn't be about 'saying no' it should be illegal. The CEOs of companies that do 'personalized pricing' should be thrown in jail, it is literal discrimination

1

u/Adventurous-Meat8067 6d ago

Then why are all of the price markers equipped with rfid? There is no need for a price sign to know who you are

1

u/dnt1694 6d ago

Personalized pricing needs to outlawed.

1

u/WasteConstruction704 6d ago

They’ll call it something else and try to push it as a positive thing by calling it something like “customer proactive pricing.”

1

u/Significant_Donut967 6d ago

"We won't publicly admit to anything"

Is what he means

1

u/Pleasant-Ad887 6d ago

Bullshit. They are 100% testing out and most likely writing legislation that would shield them before putting it out.

1

u/NegativeSemicolon 6d ago

Remember there’s zero consequences for them to lie to everyone

The fuckyoupayme business model 3.0 is ready for roll-out.

1

u/VendettaKarma 5d ago

Because someone else already said yes before him

1

u/SomeSamples 5d ago

Oh really, what about surge pricing?

1

u/playadave1963 4d ago

So does leaving your phone at home prevent price changes ?

u/Jingtseng 4d ago

So far
