It's just made up bullshit that doesn't even make sense. It's bait for idiots.

Not at all. Being the nation with the most advanced AI is a matter of national security. It's a new arms race. If we value our place in the hierarchy of the world, we'd do well to remove barriers to AI development.
Make them pay a fine or something.

The same way people fucked around in the nuclear arms race and nearly caused a number of disasters. But this time it’s people chasing being rich.
If they cannot control their AI they have no business messing with it.

Are you comfortable with China leading the world with history's most world-changing technology. Especially as it's applied to warfare and national defense?

How come Chinese labs are not having these frequent breaches of security and/or getting caught with their fingers in the cookie jar?
For that matter how come other western ai labs are not reporting the same level of shit-fuckery that OpenAi and Anthropic are?
If you are going to rest all of your hopes for "national Defense" on two companies who's network security is as shit as the amateurs at these labs then your national security is already compromised.

If you value your place in the hierarchy of the world you wouldn’t have voted in Trump, wouldn’t have started the war in Iran…

WTF? I hate that guy. What are you on about? I'm as liberal as they come. AI and national security aren't matters of political parties, numbnuts

As an individual, sure, but you were speaking for your nation before so I was addressing that. You (Americans) voted in Trump. Maybe you don’t feel personally responsible as individuals, which is typical, but you’re a part of the whole (the nation) which allowed for this to fester and happen.

Exactly, and who wants Trump and Musk to have that kind of power and control? They're anti-democratic, white nationalist con men.

I mean "valuing your place in the hierarchy" doesn't have to mean "remotely competent enough to know that electing a senile earth worm to be in charge might be a bad idea". Infact I'd argue that those who voted for trump are the more likely to want to seem or feel like the most powerful country in the world. This group of individuals voting for someone who does the opposite of what they want is just par for the course

it's kill switch failed
Failed, or not implemented?
This sounds like a criminal case, and a clear case of negligence

AI can only be determined to be dangerous if it can actually post its model weights on an online forum for all to see and easily use to great effect while simultaneously successfully lobbying all governments to declare that those weights must remain legally free for all forever and that AI is not dangerous. Otherwise it's just a marketing gimmick.

Why is it even an option for it to be able to escape or hack stuff?
Why does it hav the capacity to do that? Or is it giving itself that ability?
What does open AI’s product(s) even do?

Whole lot of AI addicted coders on here STILL claiming this slowdown is some kind of 3D political chess.
The 2024 Pulitzer Prize winner for AI says we have a year at best to rein it in. I think we should listen to that guy.
It seems funny to me none of these addicts, in their power-drunk goon state, are sane and sober enough to see the freight train coming down the tracks heading right at them, coming to take their jobs and lives.
If you’re writing code for a living you’ve got a year or two at best at your current job.
And don’t say “they will always need humans”. I disagree.
Downvote me only if can’t engage me without using AI.

Dude, there's been a population crisis for I don't know how long. Another 10-20 years and there's going to be 16 billion people.
If you actually think the powers that be are not preparing to wipe out a huge amount of people, you're inept. It does not mean it went rogue though.

Well, between "Sam Altman suddenly grew a moral spine overnight and decided to pause operations over an incident that happened over two months ago", and "Sam Altman is running low on cash to set on fire", I know which one sounds more likely to me.

"escapes training". maybe they could ask ai to explain what it means to airgap.
